Great time for this review. I was looking into this game and wanted to understand it better. There's not a lot out there yet. Game looks really fun, but not much player interaction. Thanks
Most of the interaction is in the rushing the end game or elongating it by looking at how close others are to finishing. So it does create tension. I read about a variant on BGG where there are 2 faceup tiles to choose from so there would be more interaction with opponents to hate draft.
@@TheGameBoyGeeks Don't unterestimate the map. If your first tile is a cartographer, you are able to score up to 14 points with this single tile. After a few games, even unexperienced players got, that it isn't a good idea to let that happen. These fights for the map can become very emotional - for 5 minutes. ;-) Thanks for your review. Play Punk announced a mid weight game for Q4. I'm very curious about it and hope it's keeping up with the quality of Captain Flip. ;-)

Captain Flip was a very big surprise , really fun filler tiles placement.
I think in the footsteps of Darwin deserve the spj , very fun with good components

After I played it on BGA I ordered it. It is easy fun. And fastly played🙂
"Sky Team" towers head and shoulders above the other two nominees, but there's no way it can win (it's far too demanding for the target audience). It should be in the "Kenner" category and win it.
"Captain Flip" seems inoffensive and may actually be a decent choice for the main award, but man - after your excellent explanation just thinking about having to play it bores me to tears.
When I read the rules yesterday to Captain Flip, I thought, this is going ot be be way too light to be fun. Man was I wrong! It's actually a blast!
@@TheGameBoyGeeks sometimes you just want something light. Especially if it still has meaningful decisions, or is fun.
Now, it took me a few years to come around to Kingdomino...but after playing this game, I really dont see it. Like not at all.
I miss the days of player interaction. Wandering Towers should have at least gotten a nomination in either past two years.
This one is a surprise. At first glance it looks like there’s nothing to it - but it ends up being a whole lot of fun for a very approachable and casual game.

We ask this every year since 2019 for at least one of the nominees.
So hope this is the winner. It deserves it. Great game.

A very fun filler. Hardly SDJ calibre, but still a fun diversion between the other 2 nominees.
Looks similar to and equally feather weight as "In the Footsteps of Darwin".
In my opinion, there are better "pattern building/quest fulfillment" style games out there - e.g. Fyfe, Pergamon, Noctiluca, Harmonies, Akropolis, Cascadia, Azul etc.
Granted all of those came out in previous years :) Fyfe is very underrated!

Captain Flip is so boring. The box says 8 and up, but it should say 8 and under. The SDJ has really become a joke.
From reading the rules I thought it was going to be too, but man was I wrong! If you play it with the intended audience for the SDJ I think it’s great

Honesty it feels like a joke. Even kids will be bored after just a few games. Too bad, SdJ.
