Not often we've seen so much excellent retrieval work from Willstrop. Though he always looks so hilariously ungainly doing it! One of the more inspiring things I've seen in squash is Gaultier's evolution from this constant emotional see-sawing throughout his early career, to the mental toughness of his later years. He went from someone you could count on to lose his composure if it got close, to a good bet in a five-setter. Kudos!
At 9-8 Gaultier did a trick he almost always got away with, which was when Willstrop hit the loose ball in the middle, Gaultier looked for Willstrop, and set up for a shot where Willstrop was in his swing, but it had absolutely nothing to do with where the ball actually was.
Gaultier tripped Willstrop during his splitstep, making it look like Willstrop went the wrong way when in fact he would have had a neutral balance. Easy let.
@@M0odez Well, you can also say that Gaultier simply executed his shot, and Willstrop tripped into him. At 9:33 it's a very similar situation and no let was given.
@@zzimp1 Interesting; given the previous decision I agree I'd rather see consistency. I'd give them both as lets because it's all clearly accidental contact preventing the return of a non-winning shot. I didn't mean it to sound like Gaultier was at fault for tripping Willstrop, and likewise I don't think Willstrop is at fault for "tripping into" Gaultier; reality is accidental interference or "traffic issues" are part of the sport.
@@M0odez Both situations Gaultier was not impeding the path to the ball, so I would call both a no let. Yes it was accidental by Willstrop but he went the wrong way to begin with
When Gaultier hit his purple patch in 2016/2017, one of things he greatly improved on was cutting down on these idiotic errors. It’s extraordinary that someone at his level hit so may tins. Hashim Khan: “Squash player hitting tin is like carpenter hitting thumb with hammer.”
Alot of talk about biased commentating, but it's not just these guys. I've heard soooo many PSA people fed up with Gaultier's lack of clearing the ball. And antics.
Weird no let at 5-5. I’m guessing the ref didn’t see what happened. W was trying to split step, and G was in his way. The ref probably though at just went the wrong way. Interesting that he didn’t ask for a review.

INCREDIBLE squash from both players

@19:50 how was that a let!? crazy
yea they saw that incorrectly. Gaultier should have won it there.

Heard both of these players are soon to retire.
At 2-0 that was a stroke 10/10, the ball hadn’t gone pass Gaultier and Wilstrop failed to clear
What a day
An english sport
+ Against an english player,
+ In an english place,
+ With an english referee
= maximal difficutly 🤣🤣🤣
That's maybe partly the reason why Gaultier yelled "Quelle bande d'enculés !" which means "What a bunch of motherfuckers" ... a bit sad though.
English referee?!
@@C05Mik 😂😂😂😂
Gaultier tended at this point in his career to mentally disintegrate, he would probably have won if not for the unforced errors
Michaël Weber he said that after he put the ball into the tin, one of many unforced errors
Willstrop should have for the sake of gamesmanship given up that let at 19:53 as he clearly got it wrong.

@20:12, sans se faire pénaliser, crème 😜😜😜
No National bias here lads......opening comments!! 😂😂
where is the 5th game ?
nice game
Gaultier in his summer prison gear
Hadn’t gone past him. Stroke.
If i remember correctly James wins the 5th but he loses the final against Nick. 😪
Nice
Who won the match?
Utterly biased referee & English commentators against the French General....scandalous...
Terrible decision to give let. Willstrop went the wrong way and chips not recover in time. He should have volunteered to concede the game
Poor and partial umpiring in favor of the Brit !!
pathetic marking totally biased against Gautier
shocking commentating
lile a bunch of lunatic school kids
pathetic marking?? 1 harsh decision giving a soft let to james @19:57 everything else was spot on. Greg throwing his toys out the pram as per usual
Agree completely. Commentators are diabolically biased. Thank God England have only won the soccer World Cup once. Hard to listen to these guys. 🤮🤮
