- The last of the gazetteers, the Atruaghin Clans suffered from a notoriously rushed book, and sadly left incomplete. Fortunately the Vaults of Pandius stepped up and saved the book by expanding on the lore, adding monsters, characters and a rich background that fleshed out the land. So come and explore the last of nation of the Known World, where various tribes struggle for identity after a forced isolation by a well meaning Immortal patron.

Just played a session in Mystara with my bf using your book. He's making his way to the isle of dread. Thank you for your hard work!
which book ? I just arrived on this channel
What book? (Nevermind)
I love this video. Long live Mystara my favorite setting for any fantasy game I play.
I had the party encounter a Shamaness of Tiger Clan in Karameikos, on a mission. They are tempted to go investigate at the source, especially after finding notes there is a hidden shrine full of treasure on Tiger Clan territorry.
Production issues; the arch-enemy of quality. I know it wasn't the authors fault (TSR earned that) but dang.
Thank you for fixing that.
I was told that this book was so rushed by the time the writer was finished his keyboard was smoking
@@Mr_Welch jeez, that is first draft or even outline stage. Poor sod
As someone that considers the 4 corners region part of my back yard it is good to see the land and people so well represented.
Your work is always stellar Mr. Welch, but this one is exceptionally well thought out. Your conceptualization of these tribes goes well beyond stereotype.
Atruaghin are absolutely my favorite part of Mystara, though i am naturally biased
I've been really inspired by your version. Thanks, again.
The ban on arcane magic makes sense back when it was just wizards and their spellbooks, from a world building perspective. But with the various spontaneous and other casters, I can see that being revisited. IIRC, you did that with a type of spirit-based warlock pact, but why not have certain herbalist types be alchemist artificers? I can see a couple ways to fit some sorcerers in that environment, too.
I’ve enjoyed all your videos, but this might be my favorite. It shows what makes Mystara special and engaging as a setting: complex cultural and political issues. You don’t see that in the Forgotten Realms.
Tiger?
One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?
Their totem animal probably escaped from a spirit zoo
Ya, maybe mountain lion or lynx wold be more appropriate

If Tiger Clan are meant to represent the tribes of Central America, it should be the jaguar.
U rock brother- thanks for sharing your passion
In my campaign I've replaced the Atruaghin with a more hunnic influenced semi-nomadic civilization, partially because it felt a little weird to me to have the Atruaghin, an essentially native American civilization, situated so closely to European influenced states, and partially because, as you mentioned, the Gazetteer is so incomplete that a DM has to eithrr do a lot of homebrewing or consult alternative (including fan-made) resources to get a more usable picture of what the clans are like.
I do not intend to just leave the Atruaghin wiped from existence in my Mystara campaign, however. Rather, I want to place them elsewhere in the world, more isolated from the pseudo-European societies. My players are getting close to acquiring an airship and at some point they will probably come into contact with the Atruaghin. Hopefully by that time I'll have had the time to give them the attention and fleshing out of their society and culture that they deserve.
Nice video. Are there Sesheyans or an equivalent on Mystara and could you make a video eventually about those? Thanks!
Don't have one officially but that could be something to work into Eastern Skothar
What's there attitude towards demi humans besides orcs? Have they interacted with serrane?
Mostly curiosity. They aren't near any of their homelands and the plateau isn't exactly a tourist destination considering the difficulty of Landing aircraft I doubt the flying city does anything more than a flyover
There is a palace on the map that is a ruin. Is it some kind of special place ?
Do you plan to cover the Hinterlands in Northern Davania anytime soon?
It will be covered partially in the next video period I will see if there's enough material to make a full length video on the rest of it
Im confused, is this the only revised Gazetteer you made, or is there one for each? I cant seem to find them if theres others.
This is the only gazetteer. I've made other books but this was the only world one
@@Mr_Welch gotcha lol. It threw me for a loop when I noticed the book, I was like "wait, I thought he was just revising older videos, was he doing the books too?" but didn't see any others when I went back and checked the other videos I'd watched.
Well, time to go read that book and see what you've done.
I'm planning on running a BECMI Mystara campaign soon (RC technically), so I've been watching your videos trying to decide which part of Mystara I want to run it in.
Thanks for the great vids.
Curious how the Tiger is a clan considering I don't think the Americas has those at all. Not a complaint but an observation. Probably one of my favorite videos you've done so as of late!
I figure the author was told to pick the five Indian tribe the first came to mind and turn them into fantasy civilizations.
>"Not problematic in a topical sense."
Oh, I envy your optimism. After the stink the Vistani brought down on Curse of Strahd and Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft, there is no way in hell the woke brigade isn't going to go after the Atruaghin Clans if they learn about them.
I had people try that with the revised book. They got shut up by one of the contributors who explained they don't speak for his tribe, American Indian culture not monolithic, and the Aztec were very bad people if you were another tribe. The only Power they have over you are writing is what you give them. Ignore them and all they can do is pound sand.
@@Mr_Welch i wish Wizards would learn that.

Im Native American myself and I love that people want to give us some representation. Sadly, a lot of people are so careful with it that they end up not really doing stuff that would be cool. Or they just dont know enough about the real history. Look into "counting coup" here on YT, could help represent a different style of warfare for the clans so theyre interesting. Of course the style of warfare would change according to the clan, due to how they arent monolithic. Theres also things like the use of spruce for sustenance, birch for paper, etc.
Ayyyyy I remember this.
Pocahontas, a side chick. LOL 😆
The why files it talks about different conspiracy theories
I couldn’t listen to this because I can hear mouth noises in it…
Hummm... It seems too generalized. Like they wanted to represent every tribe but stuffed aspects of each tribe into the various tribes.
That is one of the biggest complaints about the original book. Or they would talk about a cultural aspect of One Tribe like a wedding or a burial but not for any of the others
@@Mr_Welch sub tribes mabye?
@@tssteelx that's exactly how I handled it with each City representing a different aspect of it's clan.
@@Mr_Welch lolz. I'll have to find time to finish reading the players guide.
