As a matter of fact, if I remember correctly, this year was the first time ever that Best Picture was the last award presented. In prior years, other awards were presented after (the prior year to this saw Charlie Chaplin's Honorary Oscar being the final award presented).
Robert Towne did a rewrite of the script, and Coppola asked if he wanted credit and he replied “hell no, I only wrote a fuckin scene. If you win an Oscar just thank me”
I just saw Godfather for the first time in the 50th anniversary release this weekend. Will be checking out Godfather II soon to see where this great story goes! These movies are definitely standing the test of time.
That's how you see Cabaret. Maybe you should watch it again. Bob Fosse was many things, but one thing he wasn't. was gay. Godfather deserved this award as well as others. So did Cabaret. Two of the greatest pictures of all time.
Saying that Cabaret is "a gay musical" means you probably have never seen it. Or if you did, you either fell asleep through it; or simply didn't get it at all. In either case, you should have saved your inappropriate comment and therefore prevent yourself from being looked at as a fool (and from receiving so many thumbs down).
Francis Ford Coppola accepts the 1972 Oscar for The Godfather without Mario Puzo! Mario Puzo accepts the 1974 Oscar for The Godfather Part II without Francis Ford Coppola! 😂
It's coming out that Coppola's an old school pervert. The Godfather Part II didn't have a Best Actor win, but Patton and The Godfather both did. Coppola won screenplay Oscars for The Godfather and Patton the same nights Best Actor Oscars were declined for both films as well. It's tragic for me, as I love The Godfather films, especially the first two.
@@alvilla9659 Apologies in advance for the long response... Exposition is where there's dialogue that seems artificial and unnecessary because it is really being used to explain something to the audience. Two examples that stand out for me are: 1) When Tom Hagen explains to his wife that no Sicilian man can refuse a request on his daughter's wedding day. His wife would already know this and wouldn't need to have it explained to her. The line was obviously written as a way of informing the audience about Sicilian traditions. 2) When Hagen says to Sonny: 'I found out about Captain McCluskey who broke Mike's jaw.' What? As opposed to the Captain McCluskey who didn't break Mike's jaw?? This is an unnecessary remark, everyone in the Family would know that Mike's jaw was broken and that McCluskey was responsible. But the audience doesn't know that Michael's jaw was broken and this is the screenwriter's clumsy way of informing them. This is just lazy, unimaginative writing and undeserving of an Oscar. You don't see this type of exposition in The Godfather Part II but it comes up again in Part III.
Cold Steel was a horrible movie you did Dorothy, because no one like Lisa M. Hansen could do a shitty writing, at least James Bruner could made a effort, and though Brad David was acting terribly on the film.
Coppola showed showed excellent grace and sportsmanship here in congratulating Bob Fosse on his Directing win.
Surprised they gave out director before screenplay.
@@jedijones Indeed, they never do that now.

''The Godfather'' is more than just a film.
Who is watching this after watching The Offer ?
Me
The Godfather and The Candidate has great screenplay.
"The Godfather" is the Mona Lisa of American cinema
Robert Towne did a rewrite of the script, and Coppola asked if he wanted credit and he replied “hell no, I only wrote a fuckin scene. If you win an Oscar just thank me”
Great, great film. And Dorothy you look great! You still look great!
" The Godfather" is the best film ever!!!!
Jack Lemmon and his long-time friend: his burgundy bow-tie.

The Candidate was years ahead of its time.
Or what about Steven Zaillian's win for "Schindler's List"?

there should be a nobel prize for international cinema. After all, there's the Polar prize (known as the Nobel for music)
The Godfather is a great film. One of the greatest ever made. But it's not more than a film.
Really?
The Godfather is a cultural touchstone
What's with the green suit Francis!?
Both great, great movies.
Where the heck is Mario Puzo?
...and I mean in terms of his film career.

Can you upload Ted Tally's Oscar win for "The Silence of the Lambs"?
You're asking the Academy??
All nominated all right...and lost to Joel Grey...who richly deserved it.
Green??
''The Godfather'' should have won a Nobel too.
Francis Ford Coppola accepts the 1972 Oscar for The Godfather without Mario Puzo!
Mario Puzo accepts the 1974 Oscar for The Godfather Part II without Francis Ford Coppola! 😂
Does anyone know why Mario Puzo was not present at the ceremony?

Adapted was justice. Original should have landed to the surreal hands of Luis Bunuel.
WTF is Francis wearing? Someone should of told him...NO! Francis
UFOSPACE1999 it was 1973 so who cares
Jeremy Larner didn't do anything after "The Candidate".
Huh? There are no "Nobels" for film.
I know this is going to be controversial but I don't think The Godfather deserved an Oscar for its screenplay.
Too much exposition.
What does too much exposition mean?
