  • Big Picture: This is the Infantry - National Archives and Records Administration - ARC Identifier 2569774 / Local Identifier 111-TV-539 - DVD Copied by Liz Pruszko - Department of Defense. Department of the Army. Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations. U.S. Army Audiovisual Center. (ca. 1974 - 05/15/1984). What is an Infantryman? For two centuries he has been in the bulwark of our country's defense. From the hardships at Valley Forge, to the 38th Parallel of Korea, the Infantryman has been a fighter--a frontrunner--a man of courage unafraid to meet the enemy head-on, face-to-face in hand to hand combat. At the Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia, the Infantryman is trained to be resourceful, aggressive and self-reliant. In this issue of THE BIG PICTURE, viewers will get a penetrating look at the making of an Infantryman as he learns what it takes to earn the right to that proud battle cry--I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I am old, that 106 mm recoiless rifle was still in use when I joined. Oh by the way, it's not recoilless. LOL

Unfortunately the big business has taken away the right to repair vehicles. You can’t do it anymore.

I've seen Airborne use parachutes to drag tanks out the back of C130s flying less than 30 feet off the ground.
Jeeps fit well in Chinook helicopters.
We deployed with them many times like that. A Jeep and a trailer.
We also deployed with two APCs, and two squads of Infantry on a single C130 doing combat landings on short dirt runways.
There is all kinds of ways, besides parachute to deploy Infantry to a battlefield.
Rail is another way to move them around. In Europe we'd use trains to move whole armored battalions, and divisions a hundred miles to different points on the battlefield.

Hitler got that salute from America. Just about everything the Nazis had was someone else's first.
