    The only way to understand the effect of a detonated device is to see how it explodes. What we/you did was set it up and ran into a corner and hear it goes off, while the rest of the platoon is hiding in a shed - you don't learn science by reading and doing exams, you actually learn by seeing the science happens (from a safe place). Another point, not every Singaporean son is an officer, there are lots of other non-elites who had worked hard to prove that they can be a patriotic Singaporean too.

    Okay since I'm minutely involved I'll give you some examples. Our SAF commandos use a variety of weapons, the Accuracy International Arctic warfare supermagnum sniper rifle, the Accuracy International AX338, HK416 (in SBR and rifle configurations), FN MK48 LMG, P90, HK MP5K, HK MP5SD, FN Five-seven handgun, and the mossberg sawn off shotgun.

    Range and camouflage are the sniper's best friend. One cannot do without the other. If the sniper is not well camouflaged, then he puts himself at big risk of getting compromised. Snipers are well versed in fieldcraft, if not then they're just very good marksmen.

    I fired the SAR21 in full auto at the indoor range at the AOH. I must say semi-auto is still best if you want accuracy.

    That I agree. If Singapore doesn't need a DMR, I feel that the soldiers need assault rifles with burst fire like the M16A4. It allows the men to conserve ammo and not spray lead all over when they're under stress. Double taps is a pretty good tactic as well, like how the SAS and 1st-SFOD do it in urban combat.

    i doubt appealing would help but there's always another way to go to ocs which is to crossover from scs during the end of the service term or bslc to some, which you have to express interest to your encik and they acknowledge your effort and reccomand you for it, but of course there are some basic condition to meet which is to pass boc and also to achieve a gold for ippt.

  • @nrcharlie
    @nrcharlie 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    but then again, its very rare in singapore to have a police officer to shoot. And revolvers are cheaper to maintain as well. But they are now equipped with tasers, so i doubt they would get anything better than a revolver.

    well..most of us only trained on firing single mode like most other country but we do have auto mode on our sar-21 just that we don't see the need to use it..and btw we are not allowed to use auto mode during range it's pointless..the saw gunner will take care of the needs.. =)

    dude..If we singapore goes all out war it probably will be around our country which is mostly woodland and build up area..so why would a ordinary rifleman need a long range precision rifle when most firefight occur in 100m or less?That's why SAF set our live firing training at 100m range foxhole supported and 50m standing shoulder..

    • @yeechern123
      @yeechern123 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If we have intel on an imminent war, we will attack before we get attacked so the area of operation would not be in Singapore but in the attacker's land. If we wait till the enemies enter Singapore then we are dead.

    But would you employ snipers for every infantry unit that needs to pick off enemies at ranges of 400 to 800 metres? No right? Snipers are specialized soldiers who eliminate high-value targets at long range as stealthily as possible. It would be too much trouble to get a sniper into a good sniper hide and firing position just to snipe a target for a section of regular troops. That's why having designated marksmen in each section is a good idea, rather than employing snipers for that purpose.

  • @SpecJack15
    @SpecJack15 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    SAR21 is world class? When it doesn't even have proper sights that can be used at night.. I fired it before and honestly, the 1.5x optics were awfully hard to get a good sight picture on the target due to the lack of illumination. ST could learn a thing or two from manufacturers like Aimpoint. You had to take your cheek off the stock if you wanted to use the iron sights. I propose that ST shift the charging handle to the left of the upper receiver and put the iron sights in their place.

    But technically, SAF doesn't have squads like the US, we have sections.

  • @SpecJack15
    @SpecJack15 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Doesn't SAW stand for Squad Automatic Weapon or Section Automatic Weapon? An 'Assault Weapon' is a man-portable anti-armour rocket launcher. And SAF should invest in a battle rifle that enables a soldier to pick off targets at longer range than an assault rifle. Since the Commandos have acquired the HK416, why not get the HK417? Same weapon platform but 7.62x51mm NATO calibre and better range and accuracy.

    • @thiskeithlee
      @thiskeithlee 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      7.62 gives out more recoil and they are way more difficult to handle in terms of recoil and that will require a lot more money and time and also why do normal soldiers have to take down targets at high distances

    • @SpecJack15
      @SpecJack15 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thiskeithlee It's something called standoff engagement - why allow the enemy to pin your troops down if you can engage them safely from a further range. BTW, I found out that SAF Infantry units have 7.62x51mm M110 marksman rifles for such purposes. And they train to manage the recoil of the rifles. Infantry platoon will have 2 M110 estabs.

I not only look into SAF, but also other militaries around the world. I've seen how soldiers fire their weapons and compare different weapon designs. Mind you I have worked with commanders in the SAF who take foreign military CONOPS very seriously, who do you think they study U.S. courses like Pathfinder, SERE, Taiwanese mountain course, Swedish ADA course?
