Fr. Idk what the true order is supposed to be, but I fought lady butterfly early af and that's where I was forced to learn to deflect/block as my primary defense and dodge only what cannot be deflected/blocked. The game became much more enjoyable after that. The only other boss I died to +10 times after that was true monk and that's only cause I didn't cheese it, use an assassination or firecrackers.
Gyoubu Oniwa was the first Main Boss I encountered in my playthrough, idk about other people's experiences but he was the one who really made me learn how to parry/counter attacks in this Game after several attempts fighting him. Lady Butterfly I did afterwards and she's arguably pretty easy to cheese with that whole "Dodge & Hit" Strategy for the most part (granted it still took me multiple attempts). The Bull, while being more of a mini-boss is arguably the worst boss in the game imho, pretty much forced me to run around the entire arena only getting one or two hits in on occasion due to how ridiculously wild/chaotic his attacks were. By the time I got to Genichiro though, after exploring almost all of the surrounding areas to see what there was and what I could find (fighting almost all of the available mini-bosses up to that point) that is, I pretty much got the hang of how the combat worked and (while still taking several attempts due to needing to get the timing right) was able to beat him pretty handedly. Heck he didn't even get the chance to use his Lightning Attack properly in his final phase when I beat him as I pretty much just whaled on him then and there.
Yeah honestly at genichiro I thought he will learn it at least but nah, first time seeing someone playing worse than me. Was screaming at the TV why tf u not BLOCKING Mate???
To be fair it's(supposed to be) the mid boss. I think that's where most people learn the actual Sekiro mechanic the hard way. Unless you're like me who killed bosses needed for the ending (minus the last one) including all the optional mini bosses that stood in my way BEFORE fighting Genichiro the first time on top of Ashina Castle....
Yeah I really dont understand why the game doesnt teach you how to block. It only teaches you how to deflect in the beginning. I have seen so many people not realize you can properly block until much later because of that.
on my fist playthrough, i beat genichiro without deflection after about 25 attempts. It was absolute hell. i managed to get the hang of it soon after i beat him lmao. i actually have a vieo of it uploaded on my channel, it's the first of two genichiro uploads.
Imagine not knowing that the key to increasing the posture dmg is perfect deflection when you are already halfway thru the game . My biggest mistake in my first playthrough was not paying attention to the tutorial or tips whatever you wanna call it

Man, Genichiro is such a good encounter. It is so smart how it actually teaches you to play the game properly. You honestly feel getting better at the game after each attempt and it's the best feeling once you get him. Probably one of my favorite From Soft bosses ever.

From Soft wanted to create a game with that same level of brutal combat/difficulty, but unconditional players to believe they can get through every encounter via that same method, instead of bracing themselves for potential pain via untimely blocks. Kaife was trying to play this game like it was Dark Souls, as such he was punished heavily, especially against Genechio which feels like From Soft's last-ditch attempt to force players to stop thinking this is another Dark Souls title, and instead play it as it's own unique thing.

3 years later I return to thank you for introducing me to this game I’ve played it so many times it’s unreal I’ve watched basically every lore video on it and I even used it as heavy inspiration for my games design course which was a huge source of motivation to complete it which I did! Just a video I know but these funny videos alone opened me up to a game I never would of thought of playing before so thank you

nope, dodging is way easier than deflecting (or blocking and getting your posture break), the important part is COUNTERATTACKING AFTER DODGING everytime even if its just a shuriken throw
What’s great about this game is it forces you to get better. Genichiro beat me solidly for about 3 hours and then the time I beat him, he only touched me once the whole fight. You HAVE to be aggressive. Stay in his face the whole time. If you aren’t parrying, you are swinging or jumping over his sweeps/sidestepping his grabs. To make the 3rd phase easy you can simply keep distance and 3 lightning reversals later and he’s posture broken. The lessons you learn from that fight, specifically how to parry while being aggressive, are key to the rest of the game.
And it's the tool that costs the most spirit emblems, smart players get every advantage they can, I make sure to use tools effectively and plenty of good tools at lower costs. Flame vent should really only be used on things with a fire weakness.
Watching you fighting Genichiro and slowly getting better at countering all his attacks was really wholesome, I remember doing the exact same thing, that was the point in the game that I was having the most fun, and when I think I finally became good at this game

Genichiro forces you to. You could get by with dodging up until that point.

3 years later I return to thank you for introducing me to this game I’ve played it so many times it’s unreal I’ve watched basically every lore video on it and I even used it as heavy inspiration for my games design course which was a huge source of motivation to complete it which I did! Just a video I know but these funny videos alone opened me up to a game I never would of thought of playing before so thank you

dude... you have to block/parry, not try to evade the enemies.. that doesn't work in Sekiro.
It was beautiful how the genchiro fight taught you how to play the game finally

Sekiro Lesson No. 2: Don't dodge, block. Unless you absolutely have to dodge.
nope, dodging is way easier than deflecting (or blocking and getting your posture break), the important part is COUNTERATTACKING AFTER DODGING everytime even if its just a shuriken throw
@@seisoch6969 depends on the boss and the attack. Generally deflecting is the more optimal choice though.
Went into Sekiro wanting to scratch my Tenchu itch. Staggered out soon after wailing about being savagely violated by weeb souls.
What’s great about this game is it forces you to get better. Genichiro beat me solidly for about 3 hours and then the time I beat him, he only touched me once the whole fight. You HAVE to be aggressive. Stay in his face the whole time. If you aren’t parrying, you are swinging or jumping over his sweeps/sidestepping his grabs. To make the 3rd phase easy you can simply keep distance and 3 lightning reversals later and he’s posture broken.
The lessons you learn from that fight, specifically how to parry while being aggressive, are key to the rest of the game.
It’s great seeing someone else fight the boss without realizing you can deflect it, took me like 15 tries to realize that
When he realizes that he could've just used the firecracker tool to make the bull a walk in the park - He's gonna be SO angry, I just know it.
You need to use your tools more you only have the flame barrel equipped for every fight
And it's the tool that costs the most spirit emblems, smart players get every advantage they can, I make sure to use tools effectively and plenty of good tools at lower costs. Flame vent should really only be used on things with a fire weakness.

Watching you fighting Genichiro and slowly getting better at countering all his attacks was really wholesome, I remember doing the exact same thing, that was the point in the game that I was having the most fun, and when I think I finally became good at this game
