    00:05 I got samples of land mosses on my trip to Central Park NYC.
    Let's check if this moss can grow underwater • Land Moss for Aquarium
    Wash samples thoroughly under running water.
    00:25 Try to remove all the dirt along with living "things" from the samples.
    This sample looks like some type of Hair Cap moss (please correct me if I am wrong!).
    It has a very stylish appearance.
    00:44 I tied this moss with cotton sewing thread to a rock in this example.
    Put all land moss samples in a small nursery aquarium, a disposable cup in this example, filled with water • Self-Sustaining Aquari...
    I keep these samples on a windowsill, exposed to direct sunlight.

    01:21 I took more samples of this moss from a different location in Central Park NYC.
    Wash it thoroughly under running water.
    These samples go to another nursery.
    This moss looks like a tiny green tree.

    01:52 Here you can see both samples taken 2 weeks apart.

    02:01 I am setting up a nursery aquarium.
    Add dechlorinated water and gravel.
    This moss stays alive almost 2 months underwater.
    And seed shrimps like it! • Algae Natural Cleaners
    I am going to transfer this moss to the new nursery.
    02:21 In this example, I use driftwood made of wooden toothpicks to anchor the moss. • How to make Christmas ...
    Here is the moss to anchor.
    A pair of toothpicks for the anchor.
    02:38 I use an old air tube to hold toothpicks together.
    A couple toothpicks fit nicely inside of the air tube!
    Cut a 5 mm piece of the air tube to hold one end of the toothpicks.
    Place moss on one toothpick.
    3-5 pieces of this moss fit on a toothpick.
    Press the moss with the second toothpick.
    Lock both ends of toothpicks with pieces of air tube.
    Looks nice!
    Place the anchored moss in the nursery.
    Also, I added another type of land moss along with seed shrimps and snails to this nursery. • Water Snail Eggs Centr...

    03:39 This moss stays alive for over 6 months underwater!
    It did not grow underwater, and yet it's alive!

    Михаил, любой мох приживается в аквариуме? Меняется ли его структура и вид листа?

    • @4me
      @4me  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Из мхов которые я тестировал выжили не все. Я опубликовал видео только тех, что прижились хорошо th-cam.com/video/bwGmmWMlRCw/w-d-xo.html
      Что интерестно в этом отношении, новые образцы моха, даже который я уже знаю растёт хорошо подводой, иногда портятся в течении первых недель. Я думаю это зависит от того насколько чисто мох вымыт и от времени и места где его собрали.
      Мох растущии под водой очень отличается внешне от того который растёт в нормальных (наземных) условиях. Не могу точно сказать о структуре листа, но я не заметил корневых придатков (которые должны помогать цеплятся к поверхности). Хотя...почестному я не очень разглядывал ;)

    • @bluebowser3121

      Only do that if your nursery is large. Mystery Snails can get pretty big and also eat a lot and poop a lot.

    • @4me
      @4me  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for asking!!
      I've never kept mystery snails to tell you for sure. Nevertheless, I feed back to my fish all plants and etc that grows in aquariums - that is the beauty of natural aquarium. Some mosses grow very fast - you have to either trim it off and move it from aquarium or let some of your pets to eat it. I would commission a snail (or whatever else available) do this work for me at my close observation.

    Hey Mike .... is ok to add tetras to such set up.. without air stone

    • @4me
      @4me  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your question!
      I could not tell you for sure - I experiment only with guppies.
      Though, I have some thoughts about it.
      The tetras 3.5 cm adult size is good size for keeping in 2 liter plastic bottle. I deem it could be used as a temporary house for them.
      Keeping tetras in such aquarium all year around could be different. Tetras usually kept in community aquariums. The 2 liter plastic bottle aquarium can accommodate small number of fish (2-4 adults depending on fish size). I don't know breeding conditions necessary for tetras...It is the same story as I got with guppies - there is none of easy available experimental data on this subject. So, you know what - you would find the answer for sure only if you try it ;)

      Ha! That is something I have to work on :)
      I actually have couple projects on my mind and a video or two ready for publishing on this matters. Mostly it is in regard of making self-sustaining aquariums with fish. There are number of issues to handle. Well, keep in mind that I am talking about relatively small size aquarium where food has to grow fast enough to satisfy the demand. And at the same time, the vary fast growing food may take the aquarium space over living fish no way to swim.
      I am going to share some videos of my experiment about this - not exactly "making fish food" but it is fish food matters ;)
