I hear you! I put on make up to film my video yesterday and to have my ladies wine night over Zoom after that, but overall, it's been sweatpants, no make up and a butterfly clip for the hair for about five days straight! LOL
Awesome! The easier the better for the kids, but i can see how this could be very challenging for an adult. If you make one kid-friendly, i think that's the way to go for most people at home.
I THOUGHT that this one was kid-friendly, but as I was watching everyone go through the puzzles, and seeing my husband even struggling, I realized that it was too much for a 4-year-old and a 6-year-old. But it was still fun! ;)
every year I plan an anniversary adventure for my Mrs where I hide things around the house and even at her work and parent's houses, after 7 years of doing this sometimes it can be hard to not reuse the same stuff so thanks for some fresh ideas. :D

Watching Joey struggle to figure out some of the puzzles made me realize this escape room could easily be made for adults - just make the storyline a little creepier and dim the lights! ;)
A lot of my friends are saying I should do a start-up when quarantine is all over and build an "Escape Room for Kids" type business. It could be fun. Might have to clear my shed out and get it all decked out for a backyard business venture. LOL

@@DowntheWrabbitHole we've never made our own. We went to one in nearby town and it was so much fun! I would definitely do this though for our family! They would love it!

I think making escape rooms is one of my newest passions! LOL I have a scary one all planned out for my sisters, now I'm just waiting for quarantine to end so they can come over and visit!
My family seems to really enjoy them. It's a great way for me to pass the time, and the kids get so excited when I say, "We're doing an escape room tonight." :)
My sister said I should try packaging these somehow and selling them. But that would mean would have to have the locks and lock boxes and such at home already, or I'd have to create full packages in crates to ship out. Seems like too much work! LOL

Nice job! When I saw your children walk in the room I thought the same thing you mentioned, too difficult! I've done a couple games for medical students at our university, always looking for ideas. I really liked the colored liquid. I have another one coming up in a few months.
My poor husband gets roped into testing a lot of my games. I bet he’s counting down the days until the kids are the perfect age to test my games! 😂😂 I’m so happy you enjoyed my game. I do have a few more escape room DIY videos on my channel if you want even more puzzle ideas. 🙌🏻
This took them about 45 minutes, I believe. I gave my husband a lot of clues and help, because his only teammates were aged 4 and 6. If it were just adults or older teens, I wouldn't have given as many clues and it would have taken longer. :)

It takes me pretty much the whole afternoon to make the plan, and put together the puzzles. I'm starting to amass a lot of escape room trinkets, so planning should get easier because I'll have to make less stuff in the future. :)
I have a much 'creepier' one with harder puzzles all planned out for my sisters (in their 20s and 30s) so it should definitely be tricky enough for teens! I am just waiting for quarantine to be over so I can invite them over for sister's weekend. I promise I'll make a step-by-step video of that for you! :)

I am a bit confused on the skytale. Where was "BLUE" written? Was in on the actual toilet paper roll or mixed in somewhere? The video went from a white skytale to a red one. I would love to do this for a teen party I'm having in two days, but I don't know that I can pull this off by then. Are there some written step-by-step instructions somewhere?
Skytales are easy. Find a cylindrical object and wrap a ribbon around it. I used the toilet roll but a stick or rod of any sort works too. Once the ribbon is wrapped neatly around the object, write your message in straight horizontal lines along the ribbon. When you unwrap the ribbon, the letters of your message will be spread out along the ribbon in a seemingly random order. It can only be read by wrapping the ribbon around that exact object, or one of similar circumference. My message read “The first colour of the cure is blue.” When the ribbon is first discovered the letters are all jumbled. When it is wrapped around the toilet roll (which I just painted red to make it more fun) the message appeared. Hope that helps!

Will it make a difference if they do not open the locks in the correct order? For example, what if they open the directional lock first? Should there be a way to direct them to them in order? Labeling 1,2,3? Thanks for the great game.
They shouldn't be able to open just any box randomly - the clues to open the next box are inside the previous box, if that makes sense, so that prevents players from just opening all the boxes at the same time. You control the order by placing the information needed to open the boxes in sequence inside other boxes.
I'm making this escape room for my younger siblings aged 13 and 9 and I'm stuck on how you use the decoder for the secret message on the shower glass because there's no numbers written in the secret message. If you could please explain that would be great! Great video by the way.
To use the decoder wheel, you need the cipher key. I used D9 (or whatever it was in the video, I forget now). That means you line the inner circle with the number 9 beside the outer circle with the D. There is a second circle of letters, and when the other two circles are properly lined up, it makes a transposition alphabet code. D would become X (or whatever is lined up beside it). Keep the decoder in that position, and use it to figure out what letters have been swapped for each other. I hope this helps, if you have a decoder wheel in your hand and follow my steps it will be a little easier to understand!
Let me give you a example, for example the max from the shower, first thing you have to do is get the code T4, the outer letter has to be t and the number 4 allined, you can see the other letters make sense, like max in the other spelles the in the inner letters. I hope you understood

I really enjoy putting these together! But not gonna lie, as soon as quarantine is over, I'm going to a professional escape room to play so that I get to be the one to solve all the puzzles! :)
I'm glad you've rounded up a few of the items you need!! Believe me, it took me a long time to gather enough materials to build some cool escape games (and I'm still collecting). But you can do lots of alternatives, like put the next clue inside an envelope instead of a fancy box with a lock, and then your players just have to solve the puzzle and tell you the answer before you hand them the next envelope clue. Best of luck!

Will it make a difference if they do not open the locks in the correct order? For example, what if they open the directional lock first? Should there be a way to direct them to them in order? Labeling 1,2,3? Thanks for the great game.
They shouldn't be able to open just any box randomly - the clues to open the next box are inside the previous box, if that makes sense, so that prevents players from just opening all the boxes at the same time. You control the order by placing the information needed to open the boxes in sequence inside other boxes.

I'm making this escape room for my younger siblings aged 13 and 9 and I'm stuck on how you use the decoder for the secret message on the shower glass because there's no numbers written in the secret message. If you could please explain that would be great! Great video by the way.
To use the decoder wheel, you need the cipher key. I used D9 (or whatever it was in the video, I forget now). That means you line the inner circle with the number 9 beside the outer circle with the D. There is a second circle of letters, and when the other two circles are properly lined up, it makes a transposition alphabet code. D would become X (or whatever is lined up beside it). Keep the decoder in that position, and use it to figure out what letters have been swapped for each other. I hope this helps, if you have a decoder wheel in your hand and follow my steps it will be a little easier to understand!
Let me give you a example, for example the max from the shower, first thing you have to do is get the code T4, the outer letter has to be t and the number 4 allined, you can see the other letters make sense, like max in the other spelles the in the inner letters. I hope you understood

I'm glad you've rounded up a few of the items you need!! Believe me, it took me a long time to gather enough materials to build some cool escape games (and I'm still collecting). But you can do lots of alternatives, like put the next clue inside an envelope instead of a fancy box with a lock, and then your players just have to solve the puzzle and tell you the answer before you hand them the next envelope clue.
