Anime essayists, Sakura, and the modern conception of art as a constant upending of what came before have mind-broken a generation. There's no reason to go against a trope if it's doing something for your story, and just going "nah fuck it I'll do something else" with no plan shouldn't be something you get praise for, ever.
@IllusionistsBane No, I meant Sakura from Naruto. Because of her, who wasn't even a bad character, these guys always come out to bat for bad characters like Nobara or Maki. But Sakuga isn't fully off the hook now that you mention it. A lot of people think JJK is better than it is because the anime has stunning animation.
@@loliH9 Oh... I thought it was a typo. Was it because they think Sakura Haruno is a bundle of unrealized potential or something? As for Sakuga: yeah. The same with AoT, One Piece, and so many others. Too many others. A candle that burns twice as bright usually burns half as long. It's especially jarring with JJK because there are so many problems with the ending.
@IllusionistsBane Sakura is in the weird place of being an important character because she just happened to be assigned to the same team as a prodigy who has been working himself to the bone to master his clan's techniques to avenge them, and the protagonist while being a normal girl from a small family. She still makes more than what anyone in her position could have through grit and hard work but they expected her to be this wise, logical character who can cold read Naruto and put his needs above her own in a sensible way when she's an emotional teenager forced to fight international terrorists, of whom her crush is one of them. Not once did they stop to think what kind of person Sakura is and why she would want to reconnect with Sasuke so when they see a character like Nobara, who acts like a selfish sociopath and only thinks "me me me", or Maki, who has better reasons to exterminate her clan but is still a mass murderer, they clap and sing their praises because they achieved "something" outside the men in their lives. That's easy when JJK has such paper-thin characters that not a single person in the Zenin clan other than those with Heavenly Restriction rebelled. Like, not Maki's father, not one of Maki's uncles, not a boy her age, nothing. All of them, but Toji, were cartoon villains. And then there's the shrug with legs that is Nobara. There's no reason to praise these characters as strong or morally complex unless you are one of those crazy people who wanted Sakura, a normal girl from a no-name family and not even part of a clan, to be equal to a late-bloomer genius forged by fire and a complete madman with a nuclear reactor in his guts. Bear in mind, I don't even think Sakura is a particularly complex character, but she makes perfect sense for who she is. If anything, I wish Kishimoto didn't humiliate her in the last chapters of the manga.

I thought the record was AoT, and it was well deserved. The weeping over the ending was just a culmination of the structural defects of the story.
