Ben is such a cool dude… seriously, a pro world tour racer taking the time to educate and share some of his workout and nutrition processes speaks volumes… btw, Ben looks like he didn’t break a sweat, your jersey looks like you’re totally spent… lol… wishing Ben all the best… 😎🍻

Super video Tristan and super performance from Ben. TTT start wasn't great but holding the wheel of Rog on Sierra Nevada was a real highlight for me. Finishing 8th in a grand tour against some of the best in the world is a super achievement.

Great video. Be very proud of yourself for being a stellar athlete. I started back cycling after 30 years. Now I am 67 but don't feel like I am that old. I am in awe of your power abilities. I just hit 200 watts ftp. I don't know how much more power I can gain before my age won't allow me to grow but I won't give up.
And one day maybe next year I can contact you about buying a BMC Teammachine.
    Always enjoy your videos.

Really cool that you had the opportunity to ride with Ben. While you may have felt inadequate, I assure you that you're a great climber in the non pro world. I would still be on the first climb a week later. With my style of riding, I'd be much happier doing a training ride with Cav or Sagan. At least when they do a sprint, they'll only drop me for a few hundred meters and then I can get back on. Anyway, great video and it was unfortunate that Ben didn't do as well as expected in La Vuelta.

Interesting video. I'm always way too focused on riding hard to think of talking at all. So these videos offer a great perspective to hear vlog content from someone who rides hard and can still be able to think of what to say properly... Rather than those channels that just "ride around."

They tell me the green Jersey winner TDF from a couple years ago showed up at the group ride (USA) more than a decade ago. He didn't get a start on this year's tour. Resident of Isle of Wright! He was then unknown. I did practice standing starts with an Olympic selectee for the Kilometer. Talk about outmatched!

I had the feeling that Ben could have done better in the first climbs withe some race days in the legs cause obviously he was among the bests in the second half of the race. The team around him didn’t support him unfortunately 😕

I competed in the late 1970s, early 80's.
I tried to do specialty training each day, with training races four days a week. I raced track every week, and UCI race on Sunday.
Racing is different than training, that is true. Much more pressure to be successful. I was an extreme sports guy, but organized competition was contrary to my rebellious nature. I have more fun out of competition. Surfing, skiing, rock climbing, etc, are more to my liking.
I did cycling for fun. It was fun, but being UCI licensed restricts what other sanctioned events of other sports that can be participated in. Sometimes I did tri's, but, they were too fun to miss.
I love cycling, and still follow pro races, both men and women.

Is it useful to train in such conditions with a weighed down bike with heavy wheels and slow tires? Or is that old school stuff and training should be done in the exact same conditions and equipment as racing?

    • @tristantakevideo
      @tristantakevideo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

A lot guys use heavier wheels and tyres in training but more for puncture protection and durability. As long as the correct watts are being pushed during intervals, the equipment doesn’t make too much of a difference..lighter equipment will just move faster. Interestingly this is also closer to the feeling of racing and in my opinion is what more guys should be aiming for.

Quick question- does Ben (or any other world tour riders you knock about with) always ride in Team Kit?
Just seems like they would get a lot of attention from other riders and not be able to focus on their training (day at work,so to speak) as much as they would in a black bibs and a random jersey

    • @alexshaw139

    • @robertlight2370
