Hello, Dear viewers. Today I am launching an additional series “Guess the Composer Of”, in which I will try to cover that part of classical music that rarely gets included in the main quizzes. The first part is devoted to piano sonatas and, according to tradition, you will need to guess the composers of each of them using a list that is familiar to you. The following parts will be devoted to such areas as etudes, serenades, duets, quartets, various concertos, etc. As always, I will be grateful for feedback and suggestions in the comments.
Got em all (except numbering for like 4-5 of them). Also the fact that Medtner isn't more well known is a genuine crime
7/15. Not a great result, but who can complain when you get to listen to 10 minutes of beautiful piano sonatas!
Nice! I do like the way you strive for new ideas, it definitely keeps me on my toes.
Thank you, but this idea was the most obvious of all after the start of the video release, I just got around to implementing it only now))
13/15, and consider myself very lucky. :))) This was hard.
8/15. This made me realize that I don't really listen to piano sonatas (other than those by Beethoven) very often. I think I'll have to change that.
12/15! Ideas for Part 2: Scarlatti - but guessing the number would be quite difficult 😄 Another fun addition at the other extreme would be Alban Berg, I used to play his Sonata. Liszt Sonata & Chopin #3 are two of my favourites along with Beethoven later Sonatas such as Op. 101, 106, 109 - 111.
Thank you for such extensive recommendations, but this series is dedicated not only to sonatas(also suites, etudes, serenades, concertos etc.), although maybe later I’ll do it again on sonatas, but not earlier than in a few months.
15/15. straight up my aisle
Very challenging this morning but great fun as always sir! I dare not tell you my score, though some of my guesses, made by thinking about the style of composers, were correct Thank you for your hard work compiling this quiz.
Blessings and peace
Hello. I don’t see any problem writing result, even if it’s 2-3 out of 15, because we’re not having a competition for the title of classics champion. I have plans (in the future) to come up with a system for recording the results of my subscribers on various quizzes, but for now this is only at the level of an idea and is far from being implemented. Thank you for your feedback.
8/15, with numbers for 4 of them
Got all the composers, but missed the numbering for Ornstein, Haydn, Strauss, and Scriabin. Nice video!
Thank you. Congratulations on an amazing result.
11/15, I guess it's fine
Only missed two, a lot better then I’d have thought
I only got 6 of these, and four of them were lucky guesses based on the style and melodic hints! Piano sonatas are not my thing, so I'm fairly pleased with that.
13/15 im proud of myself hahah ✨
9/15
You should do violin sonatas next.
10 out of 15. I did better than I thought I would, but not as well as I hoped. Interesting. Do Cello concertos next please. That would be on my ChopinLizst....;)
I’ll definitely do it sooner or later, but I’m not sure about the next part.
I thought the Schubert's one might be one of the Beethoven's in his early period😧
sorry Schubert😂as a fan of your music I need to listen that Sonata again like, 10 times😂🙈
(what's more, I got Hayden's and Lizst's right just by feelings😆
11/15 - So mad at myself for missing the Brahms!
Well, apart from Brahms, the rest of the results are excellent!
14 out of 15 - Medtner through me off.
Medtner is the greatest sonatas composers ever! Actually I am not a big fan of sonata tragica, it's beautifull and energic, but medtner has so many way better sonatas
Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, I am not at all an expert on Medtner, but if you write me some examples of his best sonatas, I will be very grateful to you. Later I will be able to use them when I return to sonatas again.
@@adiosmusictest Imo, his best sonatas are Night wind sonata, G minor sonata, Sonata romantica and Sonata A minor (Op. 30). Also sonata minaciossa and Ballad are great!
@@teodorb.p.composer Thank you very much for the recommendations, I will definitely use them in future videos and not only on sonatas.
I agree, actually it's one of the sonata I dislike the most and Medtner is in my top 3 of best piano composers. I find it to be to "show off". Night Wind, Romantica, Minaciossa are my favorites
@@alexs1504 I would not call it show off, the form, structure and thematic work is great here also.
Aargh! Only 5/15! Send me to detention to listen to piano music!
12/15 this time
12/15 bro for half of them I thought it was scriabin
Yes.. I observe this in myself too. When you don’t know exactly the correct answer, you always think about the same option, which, as usual, opens only at the very end))
13. Who knows the Strauss sonata? Though I got that by deduction from what was left. As for Ornstein, who’s he? I must look him up.
When you solve a quiz, you don’t have to know all the answers and it’s not even very interesting. Logically find the correct answer is great too!
9/15, with a very bad beginning
14/15, I didn't know about Ornstein
Well, now you know))
It's already hard for me (my knowledge of sonatas is very limited). I found only Mozart (easy one), Haydn (classical one), Beethoven (also easy one), Liszt (romantic one), Scriabin (strangely calm but somewhat mystic) and Prokofiev (definitely the kind of stuff composed for Richer the Terrific).
In fact, I'm not entirely sure that the level of this quiz is Medium. Perhaps even Hard. But on the other hand, there are a lot of famous sonatas collected here, so I decided not to intimidate with high complexity. Maybe later I’ll change to Hard if there aren’t enough high results.
@@adiosmusictest I'd say it was hard! However, I have very limited knowledge of piano sonatas so I was expecting that.
Haydn
Brahms
Mozart
Who is performing the Brahms 3rd and Rach 2nd? Thanks
Not 100% sure, but it seems: Lars Vogt (Brahms) and Lugansky(Rachmaninov)
@@adiosmusictest thank you
Is it Schubert for the intro?
This is not quite Schubert)) Muzio Clementi - Sonatina Op.36 No.5, I. Presto
I got 3.:(
Better than me : )
Medtner, Ornstein yes (has anyone ever heard of them), Bartók no. Strange choices.
