    Some of our astute followers have noticed me slurring my words. I am not drunk but working with Brad it would be justifiable. I had 6 infected cysts removed from my mouth (noncancerous) and I have residual scar tissue and numbness. I will try to do better. Thanks Bob.

    Be careful with Advil. I took it long term for shoulder pain and I developed Gastritis. My Gastritis morphed into Lymphoma in my stomach. I had no idea this could happen.

    Each drug is metabolized by different enzymatic pathways... the big issue is not to mix alcohol and tylenol or acetaminophen as they use the same metabolic enzymes to breakdown toxic metabolites that form...

  • @pajamamama5965
    @pajamamama5965 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    This is great information and good news! Actually I damaged my throat from overuse of Aleve after an ankle injury with related nerve pain. Thankfully it's healed now, but I never use aleve now and I'm very careful with ibuprofen, understanding the risks. Recently after a car accident, I've been having chronic hip pain that's made it difficult to work. My doctor told me I could combine Tylenol and ibuprofen. What I do is start with the 500mg Tylenol when the pain feels unbearable. I let that kick in and often it's enough to take the edge off so at least I can concentrate and do my job. Some days are worse than others though, so if I have Tylenol in my system, at the next meal I take an ibuprofen with it and a big drink to fill my stomach. The combination of the two makes me feel so much better on the really bad days. But like I said I try to avoid ibuprofen as much as possible, it's not for long term use.

      It sounds like you should see a pain management doctor. I would also get an MRI done and make sure there is not something more serious going on. My legs were going numb with bad back pain. They found a malformation in my spinal cord and did a surgery, but too little too late. Today I am mostly paralyzed from the waist down and have to use a wheelchair ☹️.

    A word of caution re Tylenol/acetaminophen. These days, when you see “cet “, usually at the end of a prescribed medication’s name, it contains ‘acetaminophen’. Percodan is now Percocet, Darvon is now Darvocet, etc. We just need to be sure to not overdo it. Pain can impact us quite heavily & understandably, we want it to stop. Just use caution & write down when you take your meds. And definitely it’s wise to eat something to coat your stomach a bit.

    I do not take medication, but last year I had kidney stone surgery and I was in severe pain. My doctor told me to take ibuprofen and Tylenol. It did not work for my pain. She wanted my to come in and see her for my pain. I couldn’t move I was in so much pain. I had to call my cousins for their medication. Doctors do not want to prescribe pain medication anymore because they think you might get addicted to pain meds.

    Thank you for this. I've been using 800mg of ibuprofen 2 to 3 times a day for the past 2 months while trying to get an appointment to get a tooth extracted. Finally had a consult today, but have to wait another month to get it out. I've started getting bad heartburn, and other gastric symptoms and I think it's from all the ibuprofen. This combo reduces the amount of ibuprofen I'm taking by half. Just took the first dose. Hopefully it works well.

    I've been combining acetaminophen and ibuprofen for years after finding it is the only OTC pain relief option that seems to work for me. Either one alone, even double doses, or other drugs never seem to make any impact, but a standard dose of each together always works well. I'd probably suggest a half dose of each for most people who aren't 6'2" and well over 200lbs, though.

    I do have one question. Is it any more dangerous to take both together long term than just one or the other long term? As in, for chronic pain that is never going to go away.

    • @amybahner4534
      @amybahner4534 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've taken Tylenol My entire life and would say the Nsaids like ibuprofen and Aleve are going to do most damage long tern. They even make Us stop prior to surgery. I bet it's the antiemflamotory affects will be more trying on stomach. They will give Us leaky gut as result and it allows bad things to get through lining of stomach.

  • @julianfp1952
    @julianfp1952 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a question that's been bugging me recently and maybe a good topic for a video. You (Bob & Brad) do a lot of stuff on sciatica that has really helped me since I discovered your channel a few days ago. For those of us undergoing conservative treatment (i.e. non surgical) in the expectation that a herniation will be absorbed and/or dehydrate we are in what I think you described in one video as "probably the worst pain in lives". definitely true in my case, and perhaps the cruellest thing about sciatic pain is that it simply never stops. Standing, walking, sitting, lying in bed there is pain all of the time so pain management becomes a 24/7 issue. So here's my question which I think is in Chris's area....
    Most of these meds say things like 1 or 2 tablets some number of times a times a day, e.g. ibuprofen up to 2 x 200mg tablets up to 3 times a day with a minimum 6 hours between doses. What I find following those instructions is that my pain relief goes up and down, somewhat effective an hour or so after I've taken a 2-tablet dose but by 4 hours after I'm pretty much counting the minutes until I can take the next 2 x 200mg tablets (and I have the same issues with my Tylenol dosing). What would the effect be of, instead of taking 2 x 200mg of Ibuprofen every 6 hours up to a max of 6 tablets a day, I took 1 x 200mg tablet every 3 hours to try and keep a more constant level in my bloodstream? Would that make the "I really need my next round of meds now" lows less bad or would the drip feed of a lower dose mean that I never really got to a sufficient level in my bloodstream to give any significant clinical efficacy against pain as severe as mine?
