That was a surprisingly enjoyable 13 minutes and 44 seconds. No pointless hyperbole, very interesting tidbits and just the right amount of sarcasm. Great work!
That house in Canada is insane. It's in the absolute middle of nowhere and ridiculously huge. The indoor boat dock is like something out of James Bond.
These trophy homes are big, lonely and usually empty. When the family does use them, they'll tend to gather in the smallest rooms. These homes are from an age when you and your large entourage of family, friends and servants spent an entire season in them. Today they are just as big but only used by three or four people, if at all.
Yea it does seem like a different story if you had a big house but a large, multi generational family to fill it. Like you said, there's almost something a little sad about having a giant house, but it getting very limited use.

There was also a sleazy Russian element to the Prince Andrew/Sunninghill story. What a surprise. " to be the official residence of the Duke of York from 1990 until 2004; it was sold in 2007 to Timur Kulibayev for $19.7 million which was $4 million more than the asking price.[1] The house fell into disrepair and was demolished in 2016"
There’s a place like this in West Linn Oregon. Known as the Hollywood house or Hollywood Video house. Project was started by the founder of Hollywood Video and then abandoned partially finished. Something like 50,000 sq ft +, recent sold for a couple million at auction I believe.
Thanks, really appreciate the support! The google earth videos are from google earth studio... its free but its a more advanced version of google earth where you set different camera paths/zoom in/zoom out/pan from one place to another ... all kinds of really cool stuff. Then once you've set the camera than you can download the whole thing, which lets you get the better quality. I've only just scratched the surface of what you can do, I'm sure there's some people out there that are able to do some really amazing stuff with it!
Nice video. Some really wild houses in this and even more crazy that they were never completed. Too much money and time?! A little feedback on your video- the audio is so flat and then. Learn about compression and EQing. Most video editing suits have some pretty good presets to help give your VO more depth and oomph. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the feedback!! ... lots for me still to learn from the video editing side of things! Appreciate the suggestions, ill definitely do a deeper dive into those things you mentioned to make the audio a little more listenable
@@BuildingTales Clarity was there, and your voice is fine. Just learn about adding that punch to your VO and it will really help make your videos more complete. If you want to talk shop and get more info let me know!
Tem-is-kem-in is how you say the name of the Canadian lake. If you are going to read over video at least get the names correct. The house that was demolished in England was full of black mold. Not a safe place to live for anyone.
Most of these houses are terrible, aesthetically. And, if someone with enough money wants to build their own fever-dream; they're now more likely to want to situate and design it themselves, rather than settle for someone else's mess. At least the 'Robber Barons' of the 19th-20th cent. had enough sense to hire artists and craftsmen to design and build their ego-driven mansions, rather than believe they had enough talent to design their own, or worse.
Freedom means free to do something that you personally disagree with. And you're free to do something that I personally disagree with. Otherwise it's not fucking freedom.
People can do whatever the hell they want with their money. If I’m rich I have no need to feed your children or buy your medication. Pathetic liberal thinking
Amazing thing about #1 Hadid Mansion. This guy made his fortune in construction of high end real estate projects in that same area ! He must have successfully gotten thousands of permits & plans approved ! Just none for himself ??
What a waste of money. Go big or go home, lol. I'd be happy to just have a quaint 3 bdrm bungalow w/ yard & picket fence. But living in Canada ya that's just a dream now..

My faith journey asks if upon death my Higher Power will ask about their stewardship regarding the poor. No, I don't know but I wonder if they had their reward on earth.
Antilia is abhorrent. If there’s a structure that should be vandalized, that’s it. Sure it’s grand when viewed in person, but those inside overlook slums. It’s no wonder the Tata family, one who does a lot of good for India’s less fortunate, sees this as an abomination.
The house wasn't even owned by the royal family having been sold years before it's demolition, my colleague worked on the homeless shelter concept but the yearly running costs were simply too high and the conversation costs were far higher than the cost to build a new facility.
Where in Canada have you seen a mansion turned into a home for homeless. We don't have Republicans in Canada..... Either. Stop with your stupid comments.

Like Bill Gate’s house in Washington. Xanadu 2.0 I think he calls it.
Has entire island, stores explosives at home 😂

“…on lake something..”, I like the narrator’s self-deprecating sense of humor.

I like how Woodchester Mansion and Sunninghill Park are both listed as #2 lol
Sometimes you just have to have two twos.
Seems he lost count at some point as there are 11 homes ranked and 2 honorable mentions for a total of 13.

It not usually a good idea to build with excessive ego.
Thanks. My personally largest fails are trivial in comparison.
Well said Joe Pera.
Don't forget "The Devil's Palace," begun but abandoned in Sussex, UK.

Yes
People get a little bit of money in their pockets and blow it all away on something extravagant, losing it all in the name of materialism.
