After the last installment of The Space Marine Chronicles on the Carcaradons, it seems only right to talk about the Mantis Warriors next! Another chapter that played a part in the Bedab Wars, these Space Marines have a questionable past! The Mantis Warriors are super easy to paint, and I even added a 3d printed shoulder element to finish this guy off!
You can just use a transfer instead using the tutorial below!

Basing scheme:
AK Terrain Texture paste in Firelands-perfect dupe for Martian Ironcrust but a lot cheaper!
Allow each stage to fully dry in between!
Gryph-Hound Orange (contrast)
Ryza Rust (dry)
Screaming Skull (layer) Light drybrush over the top!
Thanks so much for watching!

Thanks for checking out the video!
Mantis Warriors with gorilla tactics, now that sounds scary.
What an unusual color scheme, I was a bit skeptical but you did great!
Excellent vid, a Chapter close to my heart. Nicely done green. In my head canon, the Emperor's Forgiveness came with renewed rights to the Endymion Cluster.
Oh interesting headcanon there!
That's a color scheme you wouldn't think would look good but it does. You nailed it. Really enjoying this series.
So glad to hear that, thank you!
Who would have thought plague bearer flesh would be a Marine armour colour. Works great with the yellow. Ace tutorial
. Thanks
Cheers man
I love the old school fire Hawks with the yellow and flames you should do those sometime !
Hey Andy! When you paint some more lizardmen models for Old World, I would love to see a tutorial on how to paint Kroxigor, especially the Warspawned version! There are very few videos on them, and I just picked up the seraphon vanguard box, so I'd love to follow along with your method!
Brother I’m been looking for a loooong time for a paint receipt for the mantis warriors! Great video and can’t wait to try this out thanks again!
Glad I could help!
Got introduced to the Mantis Warriors through the infamous (C.S. Goto) Deathwatch novels and enjoyed their characters. Then the expanded lore through the Badab War books. Basically they are like the Raven Guard but with White Scar geneseed, sneaky boys. Would love to see something different. Back when GW did same name chapters, there is the Knights of Blood. Successors of the Blood Angels that went renegade. There is also a color scheme in the Chaos Space Marine section too for the Knights of Blood. Be cool to see both together and it's like a Ying/Yang of who fell and who remained loyal
One of the chatper which you don't see so often on the table top, i love them and their lore. I love the black vipers as well, there are so many awesome chapters out there ,s adly i can't collect all of them :D
Been working on my Novamarines since Plague Wars (though current wave is delayed due to AoS 4th coming out), would love to see your take on them!
They’re on the list for sure!
I really like this color scheme. I love the endless lore in Warhammer
Great scheme, really like the chapter badge. Think I will paint some for my marine force as really like how they look.
Sweet! Hope you enjoy them!
Very nice. I did them in their old rt era jungle pattern for the small starter set for leviathan 🪲
Nice job with an unusual colour scheme. I'd love to see a video on the Charnel Guard, they dont get a lot of love even from their founding chapter
Such a great suggestion!
Great video. Loved the narration and the lore …. Colour scheme was excellent…. Always liked the mentor legion colours bold strong and very clean not sure if they were involved with the badab war … just a cool scheme in my opinion just never liked painting white, alway went chalky….as always amazing job thanks for sharing 🫡🍻👍
Would love to see your take on the Covenant of Fire. Everyone enjoys a Salamander successor 👍 keep up the great work, really enjoying this series.
Hey Andy, i literally just stumbled across your channel because i wanted to learn how to paint flesh tearers and i am absolutely in love with your recipe. I am looking to get into the hobby and start painting my first miniatures, which is why i am still struggling to pick a chapter for me. Flesh Tearers are up there for sure but i was wondering if you could do a tutorial on how to paint up Retributors in your style since i really love their aesthetics.
Nice job on this one Andy, it’s a wired muted colour scheme but I think you nailed it. And it is really nice to see it finished off with the full shoulder pad icon.
Please do a lamenters marine, would love your take! I vow I'll keep my subscription for 24 months minimum haha
Andy great vid as usual!!! Question in any of your vids do you have a recipe for painting skin for things like chaos possessed or obliterators? Slowly dabbling in heresy after I saw your curze vid haha
Nice Video! That Imperial Fists yellow looks like great paint! Covers great.
Yes highly recommend trying it!
Glad you’re continuing this series, love the Badab war. Tbh if I was painting this I’d finish with just the contrast paints and shade, it looks great as-is! ps Huron Blackheart did nothing wrong
Hi Andy I really enjoy your videos and this one convinced me to paint my space marines as Mantis Warriors. Question though, what size brush do you use here? Also how do you get contrast to go on so smooth, mine always comes out blotchy lol.
Love the two tone helmet.
If only the Maelstrom Wardens had more Cowls. They could have happily fought the Jahangir with the Lion.
Definitely need to read the Badab campaign books, once I’m done reading the Siege of Vraks on the Vault
Yeah they’re so good
Great to see some more obscure chapters getting some love 🙂
Yeah it’s fun for me as well making these videos!
1 Love you're style of painting. Please do Hawk lords next andy
Oh great suggestion!
cool video, ive heard about the Mantis Warriors but never learnt about them so was great to learn more, the colour scheme is a bit odd though dont think its one id attempt myself...really enjoying the series
I would love to see your take on the Charnel Guard
I had a quick read about them and hell yes they’re happening
Redemption!
Interesting take. They look great. Mine are a bit brighter
Thanks man! Yeah there’s a few tones you can go with for them!
Another awesome video. Wouldn’t mind seeing an up to date video painting Krieg troops. Unless it’s identical to your old videos
Hmm I think it is the same, let me have a think if anything has changed about the scheme these days!
@@MediocreHobbies perfect. I know I paint troops with more contrast now where as tanks I use base/layer paint.
Cracking job! Resting in my bank account lol!!!!
Laura has been waiting for someone to get that joke 😄
I’m hoping that at some point that a big novel series will be the Badab War, certainly doesn’t need to be as big as the HH was, but it is a great story.
Oh i would love that!
Colour me surprised that you didn't use Mantis Warrior Green :D A twist!
Hahaha
Good paint job- also Huron did nothing wrong!
I’m new to this but did you prime it black and then grey or is that the paint
@@braydendixon9736 I did a whole video showing how I prime a few weeks ago. Deffo check it out. It will explain everything.
@@MediocreHobbies thank you
Made me so nervous with that Black Templar on the power pack😅 just take the power pack OFF. You can paint it way easier that way
Nah, there's no need!
I vote Executioners and Lamenters
Has there been a video on The Emperor's Spears?
Not yet!
Dark Krakens
Good suggestion!
where did the mantic shoulder badge come from?
you can google it easily, i don't like leaving links for this kind of thing in case anyone gets in trouble! :D
@@MediocreHobbies understood. thanks.will google it
You poke the Shark you get the teeth… and lose your planet.
Hahaha it’s true
👍
🙌
Woah! thank you! you did it. One of my favorite from a long time.
You're very welcome!
Akshually, the Badab War dates back to the Rogue Trader era. It was in the WH40K Compendium (Red Book).
Yes but the modern version as described in this video was fully fleshed out in the Imperial Armour books, the Badab War has been changed quite a bit over the years, just like the Heresy was. Huron Blackheart used to be theorised to be an alien shapeshifter lol
Andy, Mediocre Marine!!!!! Also the Scythe's of the Emperor.
Red Hunters!
Great suggestion!
