I worked here for two years, this hospital is the best in the city. Everyone has to stay on the island. The bridge will be closed off because it can get flooded. 2-3 years ago there was a manatee on the bridge dead and other things.

It would be ridiculously expensive to relocate this hospital to a less vulnerable location. As often as these storms are occurring, and as extreme as they are becoming, perhaps it would make sense to construct a permanent concrete flood wall, rather than having to install and remove this 'fence' system repeatedly.

I think it’s also the historical side of it. And to be fair where Gould they put a hurricane rated permanent flood wall (per many ones have to be way more beefy and have to meet several other requirements that the temp walls don’t.

It probably wouldn't work against a tsunami because the water would move too fast for it, but normal flooding it works because the water holds the bottom down.
American city's need to organise and invite dutch water experts to prevent the huge crisis after disasters like this. Changing the way you look at, and work with water is crucial. Hopefully everyone get out okay!

Tampa General Hospital is a horrific location right on the water. And they have over 10,000 patients. They always "ride out" the storm. Absolutely awful place to work. Zero concern for the workers and staff. The hospital needs to be knocked down and built somewhere else. Of course they're not gonna do that.

This should be available to homeowners in flood areas and hopefully DeSantis would also provide offsetting the cost as well as insurance companies providing cost reductions if you have this.
Comment by Carmencita: Norway to the rescue. This is an amazing creation, expensive, but well worth it. More buildings, and even homes, should get this protection. Florida will always be in danger of hurricanes, maybe engineers and architects should start building better, not of wood but concrete which could withstand high winds.

Not true. Lee Memorial in Fort Myers is completely abandoning their campus and moving inland after Hurricane Ian hit the area.

Tampa General Hospital is a horrific location right on the water. And they have over 10,000 patients. They always "ride out" the storm. Absolutely awful place to work. Zero concern for the workers and staff. The hospital needs to be knocked down and built somewhere else. Of course they're not gonna do that.

Comment by Carmencita: Norway to the rescue. This is an amazing creation, expensive, but well worth it. More buildings, and even homes, should get this protection. Florida will always be in danger of hurricanes, maybe engineers and architects should start building better, not of wood but concrete which could withstand high winds.
I work there on that property and that Aqua fence is actually a waste. The water will be only a few inches deep at the fence, not 15 feet.
