I loved this video. Great ideas. I think you could also do pretty, but really low maintenance table runners, placemats, wall hangings, etc, that you can toss right in the wash. No ironing needed. You can definitely celebrate and appreciate the fact that beautiful doesn't have to mean perfect.
Absolutely! I sell wool scarves, made out of the really lovely soft and expensive yarn (less expensive because I only use secondhand, but still), and acrylic table runners and a lot of my customers buy the table runners and use them as scarves! Because so many people today don't have the time and resources to care for natural materials. And it becomes a stress point that prevents them from purchasing them in the first place.

also YES on the hypermobile eyes. I had to get my eyes surgically corrected b/c I developed a lazy eye at 19 and then at 24 it rapidly decompensated and I was basically experiencing chronic double vision for a year even with vision therapy. I only got my hEDS diagnosis last yr at 27 but looking back now it makes so much sense. I had a divergence insufficiecy and couldn't get my eyes to uncross and look further away then like 10 ft.
I just found this channel via random youtube algorithm and I love everything about your work and your vibe! I get the vast majority of my yarn from thrift stores and because I do SCA historical work I'm usually pretty picky about what I grab. In reality, that means I've got lots of single skeins of fancy wool (and other!) yarn that I'm too afraid to really dive into because it needs the PERFECT project... maybe I've got to shift my thinking! (while I figure out WHAT to do with only 50g of yarn that's 70% combed mink fur???)
Absolutely love that you use only thrifted yarn! I didn't even think to look for yarn at thrift stores. I've been dabbling in sewing lately and most of my fabric is either scraps from my mum or reclaimed samples, so I'd love to participate in another less wasteful way of adding yarn to my stash 😄 p.s. your fifth patreon tier got a good laugh out of me 😂
You can usually find good fabric at thrift stores too! I love lining my electronics bags with flannel and it's so much more affordable to get that in sheet form from the thrift store!
First and most importantly... Thank you for a super nice video! I am so glad you have found a way to be creative even thou you have health issues. I think I would die if I couldn't craft. Your Ideas really helped me with how to use all of my acrylic yarn and I loved how the slightly yellowed yarn looked (maybe because I also love linnen ALOT). Now I have to warp my frameloom and give weaving a goo.
I was trying to figure out what else to use for a warp board b/c i rly didn't wanna buy a warp board and seeing your peg board was like WOAH! I'm not the only one! my wife has two big vintage one's in her office and i've been thinking for a week now I should see if it would work as a warping board b/c kitchen cans was good only ONCE. lol
the thing you said about EDS and eyes, oh gosh. back in the 80s an eye dr told me my eyes were longer front to back than he’d ever seen, and that was why i was so nearsighted. i have EDS (probably CEDS, but was diagnosed c 73). tysm for mentioning the connection!

I used to weave but I kept moving around instead of being in one place for regular weaving time. I swapped to knitting because it's easier to run around while working on it. I couldn't get the hang of crochet. I spent countless hours researching, trying to figure out a loom I could carry around and weave on, especially like what you're using with the final length being longer than the loom. Closest I could get was a back strap loom but that requires anchoring on something staying still and using your bodyweight to create tension in the loom. On the other hand it's also the easiest to build from scratch with 3-5 sticks and a little hand carving. 😅
I used to do a lot of crocheting. I still have a large amount of crochet cotton, so I'm using that to weave with. My eyesight has deteriorated to the point where I can no longer read the crochet patterns. So weaving is a good use for the cotton
That's part of what I love about the small rigid heddle loom. I have dyscalculia (dyslexia for numbers) and following patterns is a nightmare for me. With the rigid heddle loom it's just warp and go!
I am not sure how much pompoms are used in weaving but much like tassels, using scraps isn't too much of a hassle! It worked best for me when I put the tying piece under first and then started piling up a good number of yarn pieces. I did this to use up a bunch of yarn ends and it made nice colorful pompoms.
Hope you're well on your way to getting your new floor loom set up. It will be so exciting to watch what you create with this loom. What's the width of the loom? The rhythm of floor loom weaving is very calming and, IMO, good for mental health. I'll be interested to see how your cats decide to make use of the new loom. p.s., I don't have a studio so my 2 looms are in our sunroom -- leaving far less space for anyone to sit. But weaving is more important.

I took a class at a shop where we used her yarn to learn to weave on our new Ashford 16" rigid heddle looms, but my main goal is to use my stash of thrift shop yarn (wool or acrylic & cotton). I also reclaim yarn by unraveling thrift shop sweaters, so I'll never run short of yarn! A group of us make scarves, hats, and mittens to donate to a law enforcement Christmas shop program for families. I'll knit mittens, weave scarves, and need to figure out how to make hats from woven pieces. Do you have suggestions?
hi i have a shattered knee cap from an accident which has led to my other leg having a replacement as soon as i was old enough, which screwed up a back problem for which i now have a pinched nerve that makes my legs go numb. then i had covid, i am now post covid a long covid or a long hauler, or what ever they are calling it now. the fatigue, the malaise, brain fog, and if i stand too quickly blacking out. disabled fiber artist it is. i have a 4 shaft table loom found a cheap mini warping board and scrounge yarns from the art university i go to.
My health was going to crater eventually even without covid, but getting covid definitely didn't help the timeline slow down. I'm so thankful that I can do this.
I don't like the feel of those micro fibre clothes either it gives me the heebie jeebies!!😆😆. If you haven't already tried it you may enjoy krocbract (? Spelling questionable😊) pattern, its good because you can change the size of the blocks when you feel like it, I also use my end of warp scraps for my tapestry weaving projects. Heck yes! I'm so glad! Please let me know how it goes! It's SO MUCH easier! Remember to clamp it down though, or it will slide all over the place.

😂 I got that exact ball of fuzzy blue yarn as a hand me down. I was going to hand it down again to someone else, but now I know how to use it!
