Many years ago I read about dilithium lore. Its crystalline structure made it one of the only substances that had controllable permeability to anti Hydrogen without being destroyed so it could be used as a "valve" for m/a reactions. The m/a reaction produced the plasma that was then sent to the warp coils in the nacelles. Any energy source could be used to generate the plasma but it takes a lot of energy, m/a reactions were the most reliable and most efficient. Any other use of dilithium is either new tech or reconned, early Romulan singularity drives didn't need it nor did subspace communications.
I often wonder how much the late Leonard Nimoy had a role in the writing for Spock. His words ring true till this day. In real life, and in the story of Star Trek. The depth of Spocks humanity as a fictional character will always remain relevant to me as a fan of Star Trek. That even though all our goals in life may not be achieved in our lifetimes, the future itself holds promise. Our dreams and ideas never die, they carry on. Because she is a selfish egomaniac...she is proud of what she did because it's painfully obvious the show writers wrote it so Burnham was responsible for what Spock became
But the show is still missing the heart and soul of what made Star Trek fully fantastic but like you said it has these moments keep you hook but these moments will only come so often they better get their act together for the show

Incredible, they simple used the point of view of Data :o
When I heard Leonard nimoy died, I was honestly upset. Mr. Spock has being my second favorite character next to data and I like data because of him. It's always better to be human
Closed minds have kept these two worlds apart for centuries. We can either choose to live with that enmity, or seek a way to change it. The union of the Vulcan and the Romulan people will not be achieved by politics or by diplomacy. But it will be achieved. Like the first Vulcans, these people are struggling through a new enlightenment. And it may take decades or even centuries for them to reach it, but they will reach it. And I must help.
And the vulcans will probably always say that to actively discourage it. Deep down Vulcans are smart enough to know that messing with time is a bad idea and to stay as far away from it as possible. And they're totally right, episodes with time travel are usually a mess.
Seeing new Star Trek series emerge and from time to time seeing scenes where the actors from past series appear, in future scenes, is moving, I see meaningless comments and where they still do not understand the plot of Star Trek, it is a mutual interconnection that there is past, present and future. Now Star Trek cannot stay still between the 22nd, 23rd, 24th and now 25th centuries, the saga must continue showing the following centuries 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31 except the 32nd century where Star Trek Discovery comes out in part, But no one should be asked: What happened to the next generations of spacecraft? And what happened to the next generation of actors and new adventures? greetings.
Crazy after being long gone he is still apart of the Star Trek universe and this is proof they are still continuing the 1960s storyline. Amazing to be here and it’s only going to get better.
I love the idea that the romulans being who the romulans were, after joining the UFP, they were commited to their loyalty to the Federation, and the Vulcans were the ones who abandoned their centuries old allies when things got hard
While emotionally impactful, theoretically, this problem makes little sense. IF dilithium is running low, between _TNG_ and _Voyager,_ no fewer than 7 alternative power sources were discovered or utilized; why can they not find ways to use that here to power the ships?
my pet theory is that it's basically a "Roman Concrete" problem. The research may be out there and possibly accessible, but no one can get it to work because they're missing key assumptions and context that have been lost in the intervening centuries. (though they do address benamite as being even harder to come by than dilithium)
One of the reasons why I have problem with time travel into the future… the characters family is often dead and I can’t bear to watch it knowing I’m gonna cry just like I do now.
Who would thought that when they filmed Reunification back in the 90s that they would use it in future shows. Leonard Nimoy was legendary in that episode however his version of Spock will live on forever. All the actors who came after Nimoy have their own variations of the character but doesn't hold a candle to the original the only Mr.Nimoy.
Honestly I’m not really a Star Trek fan but even I can agree Nimoy gave a masterpiece of a performance I can say this because I used to sit with my grandad when he watched it
Dilithium is used in energy production, not warp. Dilithium catalyse and stabilise matter-antimatter reactions. No matter your warp technology, you still need dilithium in your power plant. The real probleme is the only material one can't replicate is latinum, thus its role as money in startrek. Dilithium is replicable.
Replicators kinda ruin Star Trek, in a way. What they should have done with replicators is that you have to have the raw materials to make something (ie hydrogen and oxygen supplies to replicate water).
Regardless of how some trek fans feel about discovery can I just say Soniqua Martin green is one hell of a actor, she can only work with what is given to her she’s awesome 👏🏾
'The Romulans wanted to stay' Ever hard to believe that the Romulans, which is the reason why the Federation was formed, and became a Federation's adversary for 2 centuries, have objected the notion for secession of their shared homeworld with the Vulcans from the Federation. It shows that society can change time to time
@@JustinConley it isn't Star Trek, therefore it literally isn't canon. If you do like the show, that is fine. That does not change the fact that it isn't canon.
I just finished watching Discovery. I can understand why people skewer it. But for me it came when I really needed a distraction from the awfulness of real life. The shows ( what some would probably call blind optimism) to me made me feel hopeful and optimistic. It’s bittersweet seeing Leonard Nimoy as Spock in Star Trek discovery. As much as I or anyone else may hate this show, Leonard Nimoy is beloved by everyone and even in stock footage is acting is flawless. Live long and prosper. 🖖🏻
Spock was nothing without Michael Burnham. It’s a shame Nimoy couldn’t meet SMG!

I just love how astonished burnham and saru's faces were when vance says "no the romulans wanted to stay", what a reversal and show of how times have changed and how far the romulans have come as a people
That goes to show what Spock and Picard both showed to the Romulans. Even Nemesis showed that the Romulans were changing.
Lenard Nemoy,DeForest Kelly, Jimmy Doohan, all of them that have been in our hearts and have entertained us for over 50 years ,7 series, a hell of a lot of movies and special events. "How am I gonna do this, Spock?"
"There are always possibilities." One of Spock's greatest words of wisdom for such a question. :')
I love that we got to hear and see Nimoy one more time. Brought me to tears.
If you consider the canon timeline, this isn't just Spock speaking to Picard. Only person there with recording capabilities, that i am aware of, is Data. So it may be implied that this was a scene of Spock recorded thru Data's perspective.
one thing about discovery is, there is no heavily mention of janeway or jean luc picard and their crew as much, I would prefer alot of back-dipping and moving forward at the same time.
janeway's ship and crew along with picard's were crucial and pivotal...
It's good to see Leonard Nimoy again, I just wish they should've added pictures of Mark Lenard (Sarek) and Jane Wyatt (Amanda Grayson) as a bonus.
Lenard is such a good Sarek my all time fav.
Always and forever Spock
Didn't expect that scene to hit me so powerfully......wow!!!

How to make a fanbase tear up.
Bring a classic character for an impactful cameo.
I only regret that she never got the chance to meet Jim Kirk and find out just how much of an impact he had on Spock's life. Mike would have loved finding out how about just how much they had in common.
Same. Jim became a part of Spock in a way no-one else did. It would be nice if their relationship had been acknowledged.

And then Picard took his job and continued his mission after Spock's "Death"
Hate on this series all you want. The look on Michael's face as she looked up Spock's file and the TNG clip from Unification 2 was excellence. I had my doubts about DISCO, but scenes like these are why I'm still in it for the long haul.
Because she is a selfish egomaniac...she is proud of what she did because it's painfully obvious the show writers wrote it so Burnham was responsible for what Spock became
But the show is still missing the heart and soul of what made Star Trek fully fantastic but like you said it has these moments keep you hook but these moments will only come so often they better get their act together for the show
@@lennymosca9099 It is getting better. Slowly, but it is. Season 3 started to understand that we want to see and learn more about the rest of the crew. There was less focus on Michael than in the previous seasons. There was less pew pew than the past 2 seasons and more diplomacy. Characters actually had arcs rather than being entirely one dimensional. It's not legacy trek yet or anything, but I have hopes that Season 4 will move even more in that direction and that Strange New Worlds when it releases will also benefit from the mistakes of this show's first three seasons
@@lennymosca9099 Season 3 also felt much more hopeful than the first 2 seasons despite taking place in a time where hope wasn't really a thing people had. The ending especially made it seem like the future is brighter which is at the heart of what Star Trek is

Dude season 3 had the worst story of them all it did not get better actually got worse the reason for the burn was because some kid on a literal dilithium Planet screen and magically all the dilithium in the universe just exploded or shut down.....
And add to the fact that the romulans don't actually use dilithium they used literal black holes you can literally look it up there was an entire episode of Star Trek the Next Generation dealing with that.
Incredible, they simple used the point of view of Data :o

Nice to see that they watched canon Trek such as Enterprise and TOS to know that Vulcan was a founding member.

3:15 Thanks for showing a glimpse of a much better Star Trek show. TNG still holds up better...few people enjoy an STD anyway.
Touching and fitting!
Say what you want about whether this show is real Trek or not. But this show know how to hit you right in the feels with every episode.
BUT THE VULCAN SCIENCE ACADEMY HAS DETERMINED TIME TRAVEL TO BE IMPOSSIBLE
Kirk: Hold my beer. Scotty, Fire up the Warp Drive for Time Travel.
And the vulcans will probably always say that to actively discourage it. Deep down Vulcans are smart enough to know that messing with time is a bad idea and to stay as far away from it as possible. And they're totally right, episodes with time travel are usually a mess.
T'Pol: I still do not believe in time tr---"
Archer: "The hell you don't."

Unification 1&2 were my favourite episodes
And what happened to the next generation of actors and new adventures? greetings.
Rip mr.spock Leonard nemoy
Thanks Burnham for making Spock who he was! You are trully the best.
RIP Leonard Nimoy. Little did Burnham know, he got sent to an alternate universe with Zachary Quinto's Spock and is now deceased.
Crazy after being long gone he is still apart of the Star Trek universe and this is proof they are still continuing the 1960s storyline. Amazing to be here and it’s only going to get better.

I am so happy that they gave Leonard Nimoy a posthumous cameo in star trek discovery.
Dude went from protecting Egypt from cursed to mummies to rebuilding the future of Starfleet.
And became a guardian
The original and only Spock. Wonderful
funny...leonard nimoy gave zackery quinto his blessing and approval and was friends with him...this insults him
Honestly I’m not really a Star Trek fan but even I can agree Nimoy gave a masterpiece of a performance I can say this because I used to sit with my grandad when he watched it
They also mentioned Picard... 😳🙁😢
The man,the legend himself, Leonard Nimoy "Spock". His heart and intelligence was always A + material. Live long and Prosper.
I wonder how she felt about the fact that neither he nor anyone in the family even so much as put up a picture of her? xD
Can't acknowledge her or Discovery.
That and the Omega particle.
Replicators kinda ruin Star Trek, in a way. What they should have done with replicators is that you have to have the raw materials to make something (ie hydrogen and oxygen supplies to replicate water).
I cried right along with her. #noshame
Her reaction seeing Leonard Nimoy is our reaction seeing Leonard Nimoy
So in the future... Their Uniforms turn into Battlestar Galactticas?
Then some knock off version of cylons will be showing up.
See, I thought they stole the design from the Bajoran Militia.
They did it right . Well done

The early seasons of this show stunk to high heaven. But then again, Next-Gen, DS9 and Voyager all had the same problem. It's beginning to FINALLY find its feet and actually feel (almost) like Star Trek.
DS9 was crap throughout, Next Gen took a season to find it footing, Voyager got worse as it went on pushing its narrative with a shite finale - even cucking the borg from terrifying to "lol look 100 cubes whatever, shoot them down" STD was a literal STD, it was unwanted, offensive, irritating and noone asked for it.
