Nice ! I ride twinzer boards mostly. On the ones I have made I put the fins closer to the tail than a normal twin fin. The canard definitely helps reduce drag by getting rid of turbulence on the main fin and gives you a higher angle of attack before it stalls. Like a jib sail on a sail boat makes it 30% faster.
Pulling everything closer to the tail mKes sense after riding the fish for quite a while now. Very loose board with the canards installed!

Has definitely provided a lot more hold on the backside drop than the regular twinny set up. No issues or fear of it icing out now. Feels much looser on the frontside than it did originally did, maybe a little too much. Think upright keels with the canard will be the next test

Haha, it was not a good feeling! Different fins in old boards is a worthy exercise for sure. Can change a boards performance immensely!
Thnx mate, I think you make the best ding repair educational videos …Iv got one question for you, is there a way to avoid or reduce the bubbles or holes that PU foam gets as it cures …
Cheers man, appreciate that! Yes, there is a couple of things that can help. Firstly, don't pour the foam until it starts it reaction, I've noticed if I pour it in the cavity to early it form's bubbles as it settles then starts expanding. If you don't let it settle and pour it as it's beginning to expand there seems to be less bubbling.
Second thing is don't overfill the ding. It's quite tricky but the deeper you have to sand into it the more bubbles you'll come across. I try and pour so the foam is as close to the level of the ding as possible (I fail often) but when you nail it it's great. The foam is also stronger closer to its skin so another benefit there.

It's changed a bit now. This boards measurements came from a panda twinzer a customer had. I don't remember the measurements off the top of my head but there is quite a bit of overlap.
I'm doing a new one at the moment where I've taken the canard measurements from an album twinzer. Their canards seem to be an inch out and an inch forward from their main keel with matching toe and cant angle. I set my main keels at 5 degrees cant. I think traditionally, twinzer canard were set with 0 degree cant while the main fins still had their usual angle. I'm still experimenting with it all though

You are 💯 accurate with your description of the Twinzer feel..with your wider tail fish I reckon drop the keels and try a more upright (smaller) size twin fin with those canards. Let me know how it goes I think it’ll feel perfect 👍
Haha, I will never forget! Yea, I think you're right. The panda has uprights so think I'm gonna try them out next and see if it changes things up a bit
Maybe you should try a different set of the large fins! Maybe a more upright to kinda assimilate the fin base of a full keel, but maybe the placement will level it all out, what about going asym? Only the canard on the backside? Great video !
Yup, think you're onto something. Reckon I'll try with some more upright fins first and see how that feels then take the frontside canard out if its still a bit twitchy

How do you like the rasta keel when used as a twinni?
Dose the twinzer setup change the way the board paddles?
Did you try a split keel quad? It might solve your backside bottom turn issues.
The rasta keels were really good as just a twin fin set up. The more I surf this board as a twinzer the more I like it but I think next session I'll replace the rastas with some more upright keels. The traction on the backside is now insanely good but it's very whippy on the front side, hoping the uprights will solve that. Paddling and pop up, the board is a little more squirrily when moving through the water but nothing too difficult to adjust too
a long time ago i was out surfing state beach and Willy Jobson was telling about his invention the twinzer it was the 80s cool seeing the design still going i went on to ride the c5 three fin version

@@smallkinedings Dane shaped for Russel in the 80s and i still have the c-5 it was shaped in 2000 when i get a chance I'll pull it down and take a photo
Did you try smaller fins in the side or even with upright twins?
I actually haven't yet, I was planning to try some uprights but never got around to it and have kind of adjusted to the board now
Wow the canards position looks way more closer and back toward the back fins than usual. Is this for a reason and if so why? Have you tried the canards slightly forward like majority of twinsers?
I poached these plug measurements from a buddies panda twinzer (what I based the white board with the pandas drawn on it from). I actually started shaping a new board yesterday. Same fish template with the twinzer set up but I’ve moved the canards forward of the box 1 inch and towards the rail 1 inch, this time basing it off an album twinzer. Will see how that one goes
How much.”More Forward” did you reinstall the fins please. Before Vs. After?

Do you get that wants-to-turn-more-vertical on frontside bottom turns on the panda board with twinzers, or was it just the fish?
Less so with the panda. The panda is pretty pivoty with its narrow width, especially in the tail. The pandas not as flat and the fish though which makes it a bit slower and I think the speed of the fish contributes largely to it wanting to shoot to the lip

What about just having the canard in on your backside ?
Yup, after testing it a few times now in some decent swell. Next step will be to try that!

Haha, yup! Should start taking a tally on jobs to see what percentage of damage is land based. At a guess I'd say maybe 30 to 40 percent? 🤔
A cheap scroll saw could save you a heap of time with those fin cutouts.
So would a cnc but alas. Lucky I've got heaps of time and love what I do 😊 scroll saw is definitely on my list for a few different tasks though!
