I LOVE that ad. I actually happen to think little rubber hands are hysterically funny. My Halloween costume every year is "Guy with little hands". I bought a bunch of little hands from AliExpress one Christmas and gave them out to my whole family. That year all the pictures featured people with little hands- hysterical.
I used to jam with a drummer who had small hands. He was great, called himself Danny Small Hands.
I found it annoying. Mocks the viewer's intelligence.

This is a watch commercial not a feature film. When I saw this a few years ago I thought it was goofy and charming. Everything around watches doesn't always have to be super serious, especially ones in a more affordable range like this.

The ad is bad, but…many ads for a LONG time have portrayed guys that way. I think it’s about who they are targeting. The ad isn’t for the watch guy, it’s for his wife or girlfriend.

I'm pretty sure she's standing there with her eyes closed, hence him saying you can open your eyes now when he comes back. Also, I think Orient Man is supposed to represent his watch. I thought the commercials were funny. This was when they were going through a phase of funny commercials. They're obviously trying to get younger guys to buy their watches. It's like Dollar Shave Club and Old Spice.

It might not have been effective at actually advertising their brand or their watches, but honestly I still got a good laugh out of it. Orient gets brownie points from me.

I mean, I normally really enjoy T3. But this is an example of someone who feels the need to critique something before they truly understand it. I get it, you don't find it funny. Some people will, some people won't. Who cares. But you spend half your rant talking about why she isn't helping him find the ring. All you had to do was watch it a second time to clearly hear him tell her to "keep your eyes closed." It feels like you were scrounging for something to complain about and dug up a video from 2018. This is a commercial for people who aren't that deep into watches. Its weird and imprints the brand into your brain so next time you see it it makes a connection and you end up buying a watch even if you're not that deep down the rabbit hole as the rest of us. It's a casual consumer commercial.

It's something I've been noticing for a couple years now in advertising. Either the man is a dolt or he's doing traditionally female work. They're either portrayed as bumbling fools or they're single dad's doing laundry for their kid while ads with single mom's show them rebuilding cars or sword fighting with the kid during play time.
I get that there are certain stereotypes. I get that there are men who do laundry and women that are mechanics, but the portrayals have swung from one end to the other. There's no balance.
Men aren’t depicted as doltish in just advertising. The “dad” in every sitcom is the same.
The point of all is that people remember the comercial and say... Damn! That Orient watch comercial was stupid, let me go to their social media and web page.

Ugh, the "male doofus" trope. Orient obviously skipped a day in marketing class, where you learned that it only works when selling products for WOMEN to buy. It can even work with men's products, when women are making the purchasing decisions (IE razors, soap, shampoo, etc), and gifts for men. But let's be realistic, watch collecting is a sausage fest. My wife choosing a mechanical watch for me is as likely as me picking out a pair of shoes or handbag for her.

Ford did this with their first electric car. They brought it to a gas station and had the attendants struggle to find the gas tank. No one bought that car because having a gag car doesn't enrich your life in any way. Similarly, having a gag watch won't either. This ad can't possibly sell a watch.

I know I am late to the game on this one but I remember viewing that commercial and totally agree with Time Teller on this one. Not only is it cringe but it cheapens the brand. This was definitely something contrived by Orient USA, not the Orient Japan division. What bothered me so much was that you can visit other Japanese watch manufacture channels here on TH-cam (Seiko, Citizen, Grand Seiko) and something like that would never get put out because they know better. Orient is sort of the underdog when it comes to Japan made. I love the company and I always try to support what they do, but that ad has got to go. Even more cringe is that most of the commenters here are defending it. Seriously? Go watch the recent videos Citizen put out on The Citizen (yes that's the model) hand dyed indigo washi dial, and then you can tell me that what Orient USA did here was a complete fail.
Yeah... Bad marketing strategy if you have a product and brand you want to be taken seriously. Fine for candy, not so great for wristwatches.
I suppose Mr. Orient is meant to convey an image of suave, debonair confidence, in a lighthearted fashion. But just comes off as confusing, especially for people who are unfamiliar with the brand.

Completely agree especially with the target market part.
It seems that they all they knew was it's a dress watch that goes with wedding outfits, no more, no less. They were simply trying get attention by trying to be funny without realizing that the skittles target market is far different from what a dress watch target market should be.
Would have been better if it were something a bit more formal like making it to the wedding ON TIME- The guy running around crazy, dressing up and getting thru traffic and tracking time with his Bambino then gets to the church just in time before the ceremony starts, in order to highlight reliable time keeping for occasions fit for a Bambino. But yeah, they chose to go skittles. Smh.

Too modern cut suit? Man.... There are two things I am into when it comes to fashion. Watches, and suits. And that is one slick, very well tailored nicely colored suit. If you can pull off a slim cut suit like that DO IT. And she's standing like there because he told her to "keep you eyes closed". The ad made no sense whatsoever as far as watches go, but it wasn't nearly as bad as your making It seem, for the reasons you are giving.
