I’m 33 years old and I listen to this song a few times a month since It came out. It’s so nostalgic and raw and great and perfect because it isn’t perfect. It still brings a tear to my eye to this day (2023) and has always made me feel happy
The 90's were special. When I see things from then, I get both happy and a little depressed. I remember how special we all were. Music had so much talent. The USA had a magic to it. Then I think to myself, people aren't like this anymore. The world isn't like this anymore. And I wonder, can it ever be like this again? Everything was a lot better. Maybe that's just the way I remember it. Or maybe we lost something really fucking important about ourselves.
It will never be like this again. The 90's and the early 2000's were the last years before internet and connectivity truly started to grip our world. It's unfortunately just how technology has progressed and part of it, I think, is these days we take such convenience for granted. I'm writing this comment as poo is leaving my bumhole and that was a dream back then. This convenience and the efficiency of it doesn't really allow the human moments or togetherness that the absence of it let flourish. People don't gather around the TV now to watch something because we have it on demand, ready at the tap of a screen now. Social media back then was you and the people in the room or whoever else watched that show or sporting event that you'd talk to the next day. I was born in 93, so I unfortunately didn't get to truly experience the 90s as a young adult, but when the Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Nokia and Samung phones where starting to get on the Bluetooth train and Bebo and Facebook kicked off, that stuff really thrust me into the real world and it all came too fast. I was majorly depressed for most of high school at around 14 or something. The stuff I saw and the things oversharing brought with it, even in those early days of it, gave me no hope that the future was bright. It messed me up massively and I'm still going through the motions today at 27.
This is a very emotionally raw performance.... you can almost hear her voice break at certain points, and then when she finally thanks the crowd, she seems totally heartbroken and disappointed, totally not givin' a fuck about the audience's applause (understandably so, if she was still newly hurt)...♥
literally blows away any trash MTV "artist" from today's generation - this is what pure talent looks and sounds like, not to mention she actually wrote and orchestrated this entire song herself, without the help of producers and professional formulaic songwriters that plague the music industry today
Absolutely right. One strum of her guitar or even a flip of her hair as she draws a breath for the next bar has more talent than the 90% automated a55holes that top the charts today.
@@VIDS2013 Excellently. You're goddamned right. That studio cut is buttery. Just beautiful. I stumbled onto this song yesterday and haven't put it down since. It's one of those bangers from the original 99.1HFS radio days from my childhood. Luckily my parents were excellent; in-terms of tunes and films. Can't exclaim how deeply it had affected me at such a young age. So much so; that its still with me; each day; today.
I'm 67 and a speed prog heavy metal guitarist but this fucking song slays me, it's so raw and real, no auto anything candy ass fake shit . No wonder Dweezil got with her,,
This goddess has not aged a day in almost 30 years...... She has somehow captured a "little girl" quality that makes her ageless. Half woman half child, she drives me half wild........
You say I only hear what I want to You say I talk so all the time, so And I thought what I felt was simple And I thought that I don't belong And now that I am leaving Now I know that I did something wrong 'Cause I missed you Yeah, yeah, I missed you And you say I only hear what I want to I don't listen hard Don't pay attention to the distance that you're running To anyone, anywhere I don't understand if you really care I'm only hearing negative, no no no (bad) And so I, I turned the radio on I turned the radio up And this woman was singing my song Lover's in love and the other's run away Lover is crying 'cause the other won't stay Some of us hover when we weep for the other Who was dying since the day they were born Well, well this is not that I think that I'm throwing but I'm thrown And I thought I'd live forever but now I'm not so sure You try to tell me that I'm clever But that won't take me anyhow or anywhere with you You said that I was naive And I thought that I was strong I thought, "Hey I can leave, I can leave" Oh, but now I know that I was wrong 'Cause I missed you Yeah, I missed you You said you caught me 'cause you want me And one day you'd let me go You try to give away a keeper But keep me 'cause you know You're just so scared to lose And you say, stay And you say I only hear what I want to
This was a golden age, just a hair before the time where cellular phones and the internet would ruin the world. (Yes, me saying that on the internet is hypocritical) but think about it...these days you are almost required to have both the internet and a cell phone to get anywhere or stay in touch with people.
Doesn't get much better than this. Selena Gomez (when she was younger favored Lisa a lot). The round face, maybe. Before you all crazy defensive people start aboht how Lisa Loeb had real talent and Selena Gomez doesn't, blah, blah, blah, I'm not comparing the two's voices or ANYTHING other than their looks! #EveryoneIsOffendedIn2016
A good song with the talent and apperatus to move. Not like now when everything is bought up shut down and stream lined. Expression needs it's channels. Wake up

She’s perfect. I’ve been in love with her for 25 years.
Same here bro. Something about a girl that plays guitar and sings just makes me crazy her and jewel are the top 2 that do it for me lol
You sons of btches keep your hands off my Kool-Aid!
Get off with her then
Haven’t we all
Its so sad kids today will never know how awesome MTV was back then, I was 13 when this song came out loved it then and love it now
I'm also 13 then.. missing my highschool days
I'm 32 now and this song lasts forever. Great song as it is
You were in diapers when this song came put. That is awsome!

Was a magical time then Britney and Christina arrives and everything went down.

The Internet and mobile phones.. changed everything, all corporations ruined creativity...
Sadly it can't. Evil is more powerful than the good unfortunately. It's said and unfair. But yes, the 90's were a freaking awesometastic moment!!
this song is my child hood, the time when life was so simple and carefree, time fly so fast
Yea she looks so young here which makes me feel old, but I remember when this song dropped...
Hug bro.
I was 12 when this song came out. Mtv was so good during that time.
This is a very emotionally raw performance.... you can almost hear her voice break at certain points, and then when she finally thanks the crowd, she seems totally heartbroken and disappointed, totally not givin' a fuck about the audience's applause (understandably so, if she was still newly hurt)...♥
The clothes, the hairstyles the music the freedom, 90's were the absolute best.
Miss performances like this where a performer's voice wasn't all synthesized and corrected. This is real talent.
funny thing, your can find comments exact like yours here in youtube, on 70's videos. are we getting that old?
99% of music today isn't like that. Stop listening to chart / pop music - no more autotune.
nostalgia at its finest! #90sbaby
Imagine being in this moment. So awesome.
Wow the voice is so original 😀
not only original, its freakin great!
Man..what happen to good music like this ..pure talent
one of the magical moments from my childhood, I remember having a great summer and coming home at night to see this video on
Singers back then...sounds really good when performing live.
They had natural talent
@1:32
The voice crack on the word "song," sounds so amazing....
I Love It TBH
I can't stop rewinding it to that point now that you brought it up. Love it❤
I miss my 90s days.
Such a perfect song
She's still quite a cutie even in her early 50's. Looks very young still.
Brings back good memories❤️ i miss my teenage days
I sure do miss these days...thanks for posting.
I remember seeing this when broadcast, and it really was a cultural moment. In my life, at least!
I wanna go back in time
Member those days when Mtv was actually cool ? I member
Tony exactly!
Member when singers didn’t use auto tune to hide crappy singing because they actually could sing
I 'member :)
Oh the good old days when they actually played music. Instead of this reality TV BS. God i miss those days. The 80's and 90's were the best.
I've seen just about every version of this. It never dates. She sings it so fresh and dramatic. Heartfelt ! This is a true classic. Thank you so much.
Remember seeing this when it originally aired. Such a great performance. So unintentionally sexy.
That's the best kind, but it makes you feel so dirty.
Lord yes.
I love this song by her and the video.
Love her❤️🙏🏽
reality bites!!! how long since I haven't heard this song
Esta canción ya le he escuchado en mil versiones, pero la primera siempre ha Sido la mejor. Y puedo decir que es la extraordinaria mejor de todas❤
@2:25, wow..that shift , it’s like in a mid real argument, amazing singer.

Well, Lisa's friend Juan Patino produced the studio recording (excellently), so everyone has help.
Absolutely right. One strum of her guitar or even a flip of her hair as she draws a breath for the next bar has more talent than the 90% automated a55holes that top the charts today.

I agree
You mean the guy from ridiculousness?
Sheetttt good old times😢
this is music
I had such a crush on her!! anyone else?
I mean obviously who didn’t who was alive in the 90s? But it’s the voice and ability to write smart, unique songs as much as how pretty she is.
Oh heck yeah. Few people ever nailed the "hot librarian" look as well as she did. And what talent to go with it, wow.
She is so amazing so be able to play like that and sing beautifully what a talent
She is 🖤
Timeless
I'm 67 and a speed prog heavy metal guitarist but this fucking song slays me, it's so raw and real, no auto anything candy ass fake shit . No wonder Dweezil got with her,,
God what talent.

igual que ver a Karol G cantando y ademas tocando un instrumento
You say I only hear what I want to
You say I talk so all the time, so
And I thought what I felt was simple
And I thought that I don't belong
And now that I am leaving
Now I know that I did something wrong
'Cause I missed you
Yeah, yeah, I missed you
And you say I only hear what I want to
I don't listen hard
Don't pay attention to the distance that you're running
To anyone, anywhere
I don't understand if you really care
I'm only hearing negative, no no no (bad)
And so I, I turned the radio on I turned the radio up
And this woman was singing my song
Lover's in love and the other's run away
Lover is crying 'cause the other won't stay
Some of us hover when we weep for the other
Who was dying since the day they were born
Well, well this is not that
I think that I'm throwing but I'm thrown
And I thought I'd live forever but now I'm not so sure
You try to tell me that I'm clever
But that won't take me anyhow or anywhere with you
You said that I was naive
And I thought that I was strong
I thought, "Hey I can leave, I can leave"
Oh, but now I know that I was wrong
'Cause I missed you
Yeah, I missed you
You said you caught me 'cause you want me
And one day you'd let me go
You try to give away a keeper
But keep me 'cause you know
You're just so scared to lose
And you say, stay
And you say I only hear what I want to
Buena época...

When I was a kid I had the biggest crush on her. I was a weird kid.
Nobody could have blamed you for that. She is a super cute, talented and cool girl.
As a female, I understand what op is saying. Back in the 90s, womans rights had more of a meaning, an impact.
Why would that be weird lol and what the heck does womens rights have to do with this lawl
Fun fact, this song was orogonally written by hitmaker Nick Webber
Sleepy na ko. Okay tayo ah... 😘😘😘

Imagine being the guy Lisa wrote this song to
