Thanks for providing the dimensions of the 302 drift tunnel. It's weird how our footage of the tunnels always makes them seem a lot smaller than they actually are. I would've never guessed that drift was 10 feet tall or six feet wide like you said. I wonder what this distorted phenomenon is called? Nice video with good lighting and smooth camerawork.
Exploring Abandoned Mines and Unusual Places “Gly”: Thanks! Long before I started making videos I experimented with many different camera settings trying to capture the real world look of these places from a first person view. Without something in the frame of view such as a person the size and depth of an area is lost. In the past I used to bring my walking stick into the mines and occasionally point it out in front of the camera. Doing that seemed to mitigate the phenomenon.
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces Its called forced perspective. Usually it is implemented by photographers to force the viewer to see a perspective that otherwise wouldn't be possible without the camera. For instance a toy car shot very close with a real building far in the background will be made to look the same size. But technically when watching a video you, as the viewer, are always being forced into the perspective of the camera lens. Depending on angle, focal length, and distance from objects, you will have a different perspective forced upon you.

“Gly”: Hello! Yes, please take a look at my most recent video Episode 47 where I found some very interesting antique equipment outside a very remote mine in Arizona. I also found some incredible gold laden limonite formations in Episode 46 and 45.
Lots of crumbling side drifts and some of the main walls looked like loose slabs. The old diggings even were sketchier. Take your time and move strategically. Stay safe. I'm enjoying what you are finding none the less.
So envious of you! The longest adit I've found on Dartmoor is about 350 yards, some of your's go on for miles! And dry too! Our's are all 3 or 4 feet deep in water, cold water too!
Great video. ANFO = Ammonium Nitrate plus Fuel Oil. That's premixed explosive, ready to fill holes, prime, and shoot. Ammonium nitrate reacts with moisture so those bags are possibly inert by now. You could determine that by washing some with acetone and then adding water. If it gets cold, it's not inert.
I was just thinking, I appreciate the effort but some of the areas you go make me feel at ease. Ill trust you if you think the drift ends no need to get right into the pocket. Keep up the good work and be safe!
There's a gypsum mine under the city of grand rapids Michigan, while people are no longer harvesting gypsum from it, local businesses in the city uses it to store things like beer. When I was in school we went on a field trip in the gypsum mine.

I beg to differ with you sir. Those bags labeled “ANFO” are premixed bags of ammonium nitrate and fuel oil “ANFO”. The diesel staining the bags is evidence of that. I saw “short bags” like that all over the mine sites in Peru. My dad used to use those for “organizing blasts” or for initiators in the big holes in the open pit. A 10lb bologna of Gellignite, a cap, and some det chord and you were off to the races. Prior to loading a hole one of those recipes would be dropped into the bottom of an 80’ hole to get one of several hundred holes going. The ANFO trucks would roll down a line of holes following the powder monkeys priming the hole. The truck would stop at each hole and a screw auger would service the hole as diesel fuel was metered into the ammonium nitrate. Depending on the depth of the hole and how they wanted the base to move determined how much ANFO was loaded into each hole, usually between 500 and 1000 pounds per hole. Semi-stable until it warms up or has been sitting for god knows how long.
13:08 now that's more like it! old timbers, old objects, etc. seeing electric in a mine just seems.... wrong.... 18:50 wow! that's very different from the other mines i've seen!

One of the Horton guys films chains hanging still, then turns to film the entrance. When he turns back the chains are swinging...after a gap in the film.
ANFO is absolutely explosive!! AN=ammonium nitrate. FO=Fuel Oil!! So ANFO is ammonium nitrate with fuel oil!! All ya need is a cap or detonator to touch it off. ANFO is nitrate prills already soaked in the fuel oil. It’s ready to go. The prills are very porous. So they absorb the fuel oil and make a very clean explosive that pours onto the drill holes easy without clumping.
I do to. I'm pretty ignorant about the interplay between engineering and geology and I'm left with a lot of questions. There looked to be more evidence of instability in the older workings, as he mentioned they were trying to dig through loose material underneath the ore body, but the new* stuff definitely wasn't unscathed.

Another great Vid Gly. Never seen Rock Bolt Straps before. You would think drilling all those holes and putting in bolts would weaken the rock. I guess they had a reason, it lasted this long
John G “Gly”: You will see coming up in episode 14 a heavily rock bolted section of mine that completely failed. Seeing this somewhat changed my opinion about rock bolts and that they don’t always necessarily make a mine safer.
I wonder if it would be worthwhile to take a samples of the ore at 8:47 and 17:16 and 19:56, and have it assayed? What was mined here? The modern, day-glow pink pain you see everywhere makes me think this mine has been thoroughly surveyed since it closed. Another thing: The smooth face at 18:30 - is that what they call a "hanging wall" fault?
Chris Ackerley “Gly”: Good eye! Yes, that is exactly what that is...a hanging wall. Hanging walls often had better gold up against them than foot walls. You can clearly see that this mine still has a BUNCH of ore still left in it. I myself would like to know what the ounce per ton is in this mine. By the looks of it I’d say this was primarily a gold mine because the hydrothermal structures didn’t have noticeable grey bands of galena sulfides. With the naked eye I was seeing more pyrites.
Mining appears to be like farming. If you can store your ore . Which is what they are doing when not mining until prices are right. It looks though that if the owner prossed his own ore and could afford to hold it off of the market until prices are good it would, I think be more profitable. Does this sound correct?

I was curious I've been following your channel for a while now what would you say the five top most important things you look for when you go into the old abandoned minds. I live here in New Mexico in a little town called Truth or consequences and there's a bunch of old mines that have been abandoned
The Dealers Edge I have seen that mist in other videos and it manifest when there is something there, they say they feel something and then it appears like fog or smoke. It means something. th-cam.com/video/sKLACkQlLUA/w-d-xo.html At minute 27:03 the mist appears
Mines like this are a terrorists wet dream, amazing really they're allowed to get away with leaving that ANFO in there, the industrial stuff is much easier to handle than the homemade stuff, much less hazardous - it's also a fairly nasty pollutant regardless - and because somebody else bought it there's no tracing or anything on it and because it's in plastic bags to resist moisture it's probably still as viable as the day it was bought. Also, by the way, ANFO is pre-mixed, it's not inert as it is there in those bags. Predictable yes, perfectly safe no - there's been many accidental explosions of it in large industrial accidents. Also holy hell they fractured the rocks good in that mine when they blasted it.
Slight assumption that it's due to moisture though, it will set over time especially if it's cold, but still be viable. I'm not saying that definitely isn't the case that moisture got in but I personally wouldn't just assume it, if you know what I mean. Also, yeah, by the way - the metal ties in modern mines when they rust are creepy as hell..
Very sad to know that this Mine looks like it should be sealed up it looks like just like The Horton Mine that The Ceiling could collapse any Second now
This might be amateur hour, but what we’re all the black splatters everywhere when he first goes into the old workings? Roughly the 18-21 minutes range. I appreciate any insights, thanks!
Damn this looks cool! I do cinematic Travel Videos. Been trying to find places like this, And I am planning on going to Chernobyl soon. Anyway! Love it mate, well deserved like from here
Look, I'm less superstitious than a pile of driftwood, and I'm not taken in by this kind of stuff easily, but that "fog" @19:13 is seriously unsettling. I'm sure it was dusty in there, but you were mostly stationary, and looked for all the world like it was moving with purpose. Going to finish watching and keep a close eye on the "dust..."
@@T4nkcommander As I finished watching I was careful to keep an eye out for kicked-up dust. If anything like this happened again, I missed it; and you'd think dust would be scattering around him as he advanced forward if he happened to kick up this "cloud." And we know he moves carefully too. But as he pulls away from describing the hanging rock to go forward, it looks for all the world like the "fog" is already hovering there. I'm more than happy to hear a logical explanation, because I don't believe in ghosts but the physics of it doesn't make sense to me.
@@NyanPoptartCat Yeah the only physical explanation I could come up with is a camera artifact - but it being suspended the way it was really bizarre - unreal. Showed it to my wife - she immediately called it an AHS (alien human spirit, commonly referred to as ghosts). Neither of us think it was malevolent (demonic), so AHS it is. Good spot.
“Gly”: Well, for right now I’m not giving out that information because I want my channel to stand out compared to the other mine exploring channels. Someday in the future I will do a equipment reveal but for right now my technique is proprietary. But thank you for the compliment!
Another great episode thanks! But I have a quick question, ...are you not concerned about higher concentrations of radon gas from decomposing granite in the older workings? And also, are there not concerns about low oxygen in those old drifts with no though air flow? Very interesting geology in the older workings nonetheless!
neseng “Gly”: Short term exposure to radon gas isn’t really detrimental to your health. At most I may be in these mines for say thirty minutes or so before I’m back out in fresh air. Only when living in a sub structure such as a basement dwelling does radon gas become a concern. I carry a oxygen meter with me in all mines. Normal oxygen levels are about 20%. I have mine set to trigger the alarm at 18%. 14% is my personal safe limit. If it gets down to 14% I will exit the mine.
What Was that myst that formed at 19:13 ? You should go back a 3rd time to the horton mine ! And bring some ghost hunting equipment ! Heck i would go with you
Hey GLY ,I’ve got what I call a stupid question but I’d like an answer. What good are. Those ventilation. Systems? The air is it trapped inside those tubes?so how does it benefit the miner working. Inside the mine? Another question Do you personally know Frank Hood? Of exploring abandoned mines and unusual places reason for asking you sort of had fun with the Horton haunted mine . Personally I don’t thi;k
Frank was trying to pull a fast one . Those chains were really swinging and at the end of the video he heard a lot of creepy sounds. I’d say spirits can pick and choose who they want to scare the hell out of . What say you?

Terrorists my ass... Up until a year ago I could buy 5000 lbs of anfo and not a single person said wtf?
Very sad to know that this Mine looks like it should be sealed up it looks like just like The Horton Mine that The Ceiling could collapse any Second now
This might be amateur hour, but what we’re all the black splatters everywhere when he first goes into the old workings? Roughly the 18-21 minutes range. I appreciate any insights, thanks!
Take that ammonium nitrate, mix it with number 4 diesel, put a flash powder firecracker in the middle, poking into the bag, then boom.
The scratch 😎
Damn this looks cool! I do cinematic Travel Videos. Been trying to find places like this, And I am planning on going to Chernobyl soon. Anyway! Love it mate, well deserved like from here

“Gly”: Thank you!!
It is seriously strange.
Good spot.
Why were some of the vents taken out but some left? Is it something to do with the copper again?
Looks so easy to get lost down these tunnels, how do you find the way out?
What camera did you use for the video? The quality of the video as well as the audio is very very nice.
“Gly”: Well, for right now I’m not giving out that information because I want my channel to stand out compared to the other mine exploring channels. Someday in the future I will do a equipment reveal but for right now my technique is proprietary. But thank you for the compliment!
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces you can't be serious...
Another great episode thanks! But I have a quick question, ...are you not concerned about higher concentrations of radon gas from decomposing granite in the older workings? And also, are there not concerns about low oxygen in those old drifts with no though air flow? Very interesting geology in the older workings nonetheless!
neseng
“Gly”: Short term exposure to radon gas isn’t really detrimental to your health.
Oh, o.k., thanks for the explanation. ...Happy and safe exploring...!
geology when you looked back was brill
Groovy mine
Playing skyrim be like
logical that you have spare lights, but if you run out of light source (flashlight), would you find the way out?
what is the hole at 14:23-ish in the left side of the wall? ( just above the floor)
What’s up with the odd mist at 19:13?
What Was that myst that formed at 19:13 ? You should go back a 3rd time to the horton mine ! And bring some ghost hunting equipment ! Heck i would go with you
“Gly”: The Horton Mine that Frank documented many years ago with the swinging chain is now locked and gated. I was there last summer.
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces did they do that because of the paranormal events that occurred there ? Or was it dangerous.
At 26:30 there's an orb, Right before your little rock slide.
“Gly”: I’m pretty sure that’s just dust in front of the camera lens.
Was the black stuff on the walls oil?
Pretty sure that calendar would not be white still after 25 years or so
decomposed granite!
Roof bolts plates and pans.
we just gonna ignore the stain that looks like blood at 16:48
I don't know why but this mine just doesn't seem as safe as other mines you have been in!
Just a weird feeling I guess?
What's this music in the beginning I love it
I guess you could call this a "Boring" video.
That dragging sound are a pair of huge balls.🍉🍉
What was the black stuff in the older section of the mine?
COULDNT CATCH ME 💀
What was black sappy stuff on the walls and floor?
Wooo wooo gly if it wasn't for you well woo woo whooooo
