No right hand rule?? You went left at the first crossroad. If you go right every time you will end up where you started. Instead of getting your ass lost. 😒
Just found your channel, I love seeing inside these old mines, especially the inner workings that just haven't been seen before. I'd love to know what these miners would've thought about those bright flashlights we all take for granted. Just the excess light around is brighter than anything they had, working by candles. I grew up in a rural part of the state of Virginia, and when the power went out, as it frequently did in the fall and winter, all we had for light were these 19th century and early 20th century oil lamps, and an emergency flashlight from the 70's no one dared use for the fear of the wrath of Dad. I've also been to a few of the tourist caves in my area, where they tell you to stand still and they turn the lights out, ain't no dark like hole in the ground dark! I have real respect for the amount of light these men worked with, and the conditions must've been abysmal, a lot of these early mines had poor ventilation at best.
Absolutely stunning mine, its do exciting that you were the first ones to explore it after all those years, so cool. I love your enthusiasm in your commentary just fab. ❤😊 keep safe.
I'd be having a major panic attack. I'm so happy there's people like you guys to show us things we would never see otherwise. I believe that the internet and social media was the worst thing to happen to human beings. I however know we would never be able to see things like this without it. Be safe 🙏
If U a want major panic attack watching this video sheer agony ever since my ex mother inlaw made herself homeless several years ago she has been inciting Big Foot sightings all over NY NJ and the Pocono mountains even the everglades.. I am disappointed these boobs here didn't see her. I expected her to be living there in a place like that after all the man hunts she has caused..
In my younger days I explores mines outside of Las Vegas NV. USA, and it was cool and everything, but, watching your videos and the way Ioan explains everything makes me wish he was with us at the time. Learning about the geology and the mine workings puts it on a whole different level. If I ever make it out your way, and my body is up up it, I would love to go with y'all, it would be a very memorable experience.
Thanks for another interesting video. Those tunnels twist and turn and change slope in all kinds of ways that would not be possible if a tramway was being used to bring out the ore and the spoil.
5:44 the rock pile to the left is that a human rib cage under the rocks? You can see it just after he put the piece of wood upon that rock pile, you can also catch a glimpse of it a few seconds before that too???? Thoughts????
This is going to sound a little bit of a silly idea, but have you ever considered finding some small, bright LED lights that are waterproof, and strapping them to your toes for these wet mines? You'd obviously never get a visible image of anything in murky water but you may be able to see the light diminish sharply before you ram your toes into something solid.
It would be interesting to video a small area, but use candles instead of modern lights. It would give one an appreciation of what conditions they worked in. I would also try a kerosene lamp as a comparison.
Great mine! Could you take a moment and explain a fault plane and how miners used them to follow/predict ore veins? I saw a beauty on the wall as you were going down this mine.
Two reasons, it takes more effert than required to gain access, but it also means only serious enthusiasts would explore and so preserve the artefacts.
@@mrlister2000 Having done a similar dig myself I know it takes a lot of effert to dig down as far as they did by hand, there is nothing to be gained by digging further and draining and as mentioned before it allows far more casual explorers to go in which puts the artefacts at risk, subtle or delicate things like 100+ year old boot prints are easily damaged and other items have been removed by souvenir collectors.
That's absolutely awesome, a fantastic explore. Iv today found out about a new mine near me, totally by accident a friend went in a cafe and found out they've a cold store in the hillside and inside,, a bricked up drift entrance and the owners given us the nod to open it 😁😁😁
I'm so glad I found your channel tonight, absolutely fantastic. Love it. Subscribed & liked! Thank you soooo much for letting us see this old mine. Stay safe.
Hey, big fan here, I watched a video of yours where you found these engraved cartwheels? Maybe they were daisies or flowers of some kind. I'm very curious what they were, I can't find the video where you found them unfortunately.
You dont really get bad air in metal mines thats usually in coal mines , most of the ones we go in havecair shafts and we always leave it a week after digging them open before going in .
I think they let it vent to fresh air for a day or so after opening. At least I believe that's what they said about the one they re-opened with a digger last year.
Too bad XRF guns are so expensive. Be very interesting to analyze various “interesting” features of mine geologies. Could find a profitable amount of knowledge, especially this mine being closed for so long and no history of production. Consider renting one for a tour or 2. They might give you freebie for the advertising aspects?
Where do you get your information about mines yous know. I've we've been exploring has apparently been closed 100 years. Can't find anything about it at all
@@LostMines there's also a fire clay mine that we explore. It has a huge engine apparently taken from a ship. Wish you were closer to come and tell me everything about the place.
Thanks for all the kind comments we really appreciate it , we have some amazing rov footage coming soon . Thanks Al and Ioan

They used barrows
Piles of rocks... fascinating
Awesome find.
Thanks guys, the boot prints were awesome. Certainly not a modern tread.
Go check out our other videos there are some amazing boot prints in them
Good job 👍🇺🇸🎥

What an amazing mine!
Impressive gobbling all over the place.
If there's a shot hole with stemming and a fuse hole, does that mean there's a charge still in place behind it?
Ideally, they’re walking where it went off. But I hope not😬
Great mine so far, really looking forward to part two!

Las cavernas y las minas son
Facinantes y peligrosas
Una gran exploración
Felicidades saludos 🇲🇽
Iron and quartz indicate probable gold, could be a fortune stacked in that gobbing and backfill.
At about 16.25 there was a 1790s era Tellingbone (catweasel ) sitting on the deads😁🤣
How did they get the ore out of the mine? I assume the rocks were roughly bowling ball size and smaller. Did they carry it out in baskets? Great find!
he mentioned wheel barrows. a rut in the floor possibly from wheel barrows over time.
Hello from royal county Meath Ireland 🙂 here in navan we have a mine called Tara mines they mine zinc ore lead 🙂

At 16.29 is that a mobile phone propped up against the wall
Yes it is. We can see Ioan placing it there at 16.00 just before walking back to take the video camera from Al.
Great find!
Why didn't you clear the bottom of the entrance to let the water out?
Two reasons, it takes more effert than required to gain access, but it also means only serious enthusiasts would explore and so preserve the artefacts.
@@britannia-foundry Do you not think it took alot of effort to remove all the rubble in the first place to re-open the shaft?

Very professional, like to see it done like this
Hoping you post more videos of this Mine,it looks like you'll be underground here for a long time exploring.
Loads on the channel and loads more to come
I guess this means I totally should dig out some of the eroded adits I've found
I'm so glad I found your channel tonight, absolutely fantastic. Love it. Subscribed & liked! Thank you soooo much for letting us see this old mine. Stay safe.
How difficult would it be to set up some sort of simple siphon to drain some of the water out - or is that not an issue for you ??
Wow what a great new mine to explore, it looks massive 👏
Where this mine is located& We are also exploring abandoned mines more than 50 years
Lost Minds Always Hard to Fines, remember that from a sign on the Three Stooge's.
Amazing. Looking forward to you finding the area where they were working when the mine collapsed. Would love to see some more relics.
Interesting video. I was wondering if that mine might be viable considering the price of copper and that it looked like there was still some left?
Hey, big fan here, I watched a video of yours where you found these engraved cartwheels? Maybe they were daisies or flowers of some kind. I'm very curious what they were, I can't find the video where you found them unfortunately.
You gotta be raving mad, pal!
You should drain some of that water out before exploring. The wooden bracket may have been a candle holder.
how are you sure there is ample air supply in there? or not poison gasses
You dont really get bad air in metal mines thats usually in coal mines , most of the ones we go in havecair shafts and we always leave it a week after digging them open before going in .
If thsts a vent hole, thst would tell me thatt the explosive is still in there. Thsts awesome. Mid process. Love the channel
That was my thoughts x
Watching this kept going something is missing. Oh, right, the wooden beam supports you see in almost all mines.
Its solid rock in these mines you do see wooden beams around some parts of the mines
What were they mining?
Why didn’t you dig the front down and drain the water? Cool video, thanks
It would ha e taken a lot of work to clear it all, it was dug all by hand , tough going
@@LostMines I see, good job and safe exploring
I would be worried about the air quality in there if it had been sealed so long. Did you test it or just go straight in?
Its all good there are air shafts
5:24 am I imagining something thin top middle of frame (towards the top left of the dads pile? 🤔
Do you guys have any devices with you for detecting bad air?
I think they let it vent to fresh air for a day or so after opening. At least I believe that's what they said about the one they re-opened with a digger last year.
@@ioanrhyslord7756 I was just a bit worried so I was checking. Thank you for replying guys, now I can stop thinking about it.
At 11.30 and 15.36 there seems to be a mystery voice In the background
What kind of waders and suit are you wearing?
Just cheap ones off amazon
While going through these mines do you consider bad air a threat? You guess carry monitors when your doing what your doing?
These mines have air shafts
@@LostMines fair enough man.
That’s crazy to see footprints that are 1560 years old. That aren’t petrified I mean
first thing i would have done after clearing it, would have put a generator with a water pump to remove the majority of that water
“ first people to walk along here in a very long time” also a random smart phone on the side of the wall at 16:30
The random smart phone is mine we use them to take pictures, thanks 😊

You all call the back of the mine (top) the roof in the UK?
Should have set a siphon hose running a week prior to the exploration.
