- Miss Universe 2001, the 50th Miss Universe pageant, was held on May 11, 2001 at the Coliseo Rubén Rodríguez in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. Denise Quiñones of Puerto Rico was crowned by Lara Dutta of India as her successor at the end of the event. 77 contestants competed in this year.

I miss this - when the out going queen got her chance to walk and say goodbye and not be rushed

One of the best back to back of Lara dutta & Denise quiñones also of Denise & oxana fedorova.. 2001 is also my personal one of the best batch of candidates. The top 5 & Nigeria as miss world 2001.

Funny how things come full circle. The first time India ever won Miss Universe in 1994, she won crowned by former Miss Puerto Rico. The next time India won, she crowned Miss Puerto Rico as Miss Universe. This was also the last year the Chandelier Crown would be used, which started with Miss Puerto Rico being crowned Miss Universe in 1970!

We all learn from our experiences in life but still there are certain things which we wish we could have done better or avoided certain things.
