- Miss Universe 2008, the 57th Miss Universe pageant, was held on 14 July 2008 at the Crown Convention Center in Nha Trang, Vietnam. Dayana Mendoza of Venezuela was crowned by Riyo Mori of Japan as her successor at the end of the event. 80 contestants competed in this year which was broadcast and distributed globally via NBC in English and Telemundo in Spanish to TV outlets in more than 180 countries. The pageant was watched by a live audience of 7,500 and nearly a billion television viewers worldwide.

3:27 After Riyo crowns Dayana, Riyo so nice and humble towards Dayana it seems like Riyo gave her advice or positive massage to Dayana, she is so friendly, not like Zuleyka crowns Riyo last year in 2007, Zuleyka look so mean and unhappy, and jealous towards Riyo, and she crownns Riyo with laziness, the mikimoto crowns also fails because Zuleyka, but thank God Riyo catch the crown cleverly!

This is one of my favorite Miss Universe editions! Lady gaga performing, Colombia's and Venezuela's catwalk, strong Top 5 (especially Top 2), one of the best winners, etc.

I realized Riyo was so much more affectionate since she was shaded in her crowning by Zuleyka, so she really wanted Dayana to feel congratulated in her crowning, which she did not feel from Zuleyka. What a true contender

Kitten Mochi So why is Zuleyka shading the new Miss Japan as though they are the same person? In that case it would be outright rude that she is taking it out on Riyo for her country. Furthermore, Japan didn’t just walk away, the moment a winner is crowned, the second runner up is instantly ushered away, to allow the winner to be the only one on video. And you can see in zuleykas crowning that Japan was moved away in 3-4 seconds after the crowning. Zuleyka was Miss Universe and she should be held to very high standards when crowning, besides standing there with a frown and not being enthusiastic, because Riyo is a new person.

Riyo is all class, congratulated the new MU (and you can see from lip reading she said she was happy for the Dayana. I also love that she did not wear her crown. All attention goes to the newly crowned MU.

This year was the head to head between these two Venezuela & Colombia from the day 1! Colombia toping the swimsuit & gown round. But Venezuela gave the winning answer in Top 5! One of the best edition of Miss Universe. Also Lady Gaga back then was just unpopular singer unlike know so famous.

This has been so far to my opinion the BEST edition of the Miss Universe! Beautiful country hosted! Vietnamese crowd was amazing, great chemistry between Mel B and Jerry, the international debut of Lady Gaga and beautiful contestants from all over, the competition was hard because all of them-deserved the Crown 👑

Cómo colombiano sentí triste que no haya ganado Taliana, a mi me encantaba y mas uno todo ilusionado con los puntajes más altos pensando que iba a ganar, pero Dayana era súper hermosa también y cualquiera que ganara se lo merecía.

A Dayana no le ganaba ninguna de las otras latinas que por cierto eran muy hermosas. La decisión del jurado fue muy difícil pero Dayana irradiaba simpatía,carisma,inteligencia,seguridad y glamur por eso se coronó era la mejor en ese miss universo tan competido..Dayana será siempre la mejor miss universo porque en una final de infarto fulminó a sus competidoras y les aseguro que las chicas que entraron al top 5 al ver estos vídeos se dieron cuenta que Dayana era la mejor...Los demás comentarios de que le robaron a Colombia vienen de personas que no saben perder y en esta vida hay que ser buen perdedor...

Other than the some U.S. editions, some Mexico editions, Greece, Philippines and Thailand, Vietnam is a great place to host Miss Universe. Hopefully, they do it again.

Este fue el mejor universo de la historia, cualquiera de las 4 latinas podía ganar eran bellísimas,no obstante, Dayana en una final de infarto se coronó ya que con su picardía,belleza,carisma las venció. Su respuesta fue fulminante con su Inglés fluido..Y en el loock final ya Dayana tenía la corona asegurada..Pienso que el jurado fue muy mezquino con ella en cuanto a calificación en traje de baño y traje de noche...Sin embargo Dayana tuvo una competencia muy fuerte a diferencia de las otras Venezolanas que se han coronado como Miss Universo por eso ella es mi miss Universo preferida...Y su reacción cuando la nombraron ganadora su baile cuando iba a hacer su primera pasarela como miss universo 2008. Es que acDayana todo lo que hacia le quedaba bien es impresionante la espontaneidad de esta mujer... Muchos envidiosos dicen que estaba operada y mi pregunta es será que en Venezuela le hacen operaciones en el cerebro a las misses no señores las mujeres venezolanas son hermosísimas y su actitud y pasarela ningún país las iguala... ❤❤❤❤
