    • @clayxros576
      @clayxros576 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      After revising the first set of a card game I'm making, where I too way overbalanced things, I think I can imagine why. They got a totally new card design crew.
      I can't say for sure it's what actually happened, but from my experience, folks new to designing games tend to massively overbalance what they work on out of fear of making a Tier-0 format. No one wants another Yata-Lock after all, especially when it's still in living memory. GX in general smells of new designers trying to make neat cards, but being afraid they'll cause another issue. And the existence of Dark Armed Dragon likely only fuelled that fear.
      From these historic limited series, it seems like the power level started to rise again mid-way through GX. And in 5Ds it leveled out again in terms of what could be done. It seems to me that the designers that were rookies at the start of GX finally got their footing midway through, reaching an understanding of what is reasonable power and what is far too weak.
      Now, I'll be clear again, this is just based on my armchair psychology and my experience making a card game. The limitations when I first started were bonkers and similar to GX, but in this (3rd) revision the limitations are far more reigned in, mostly because I've gotten more design experience overall. Literally a skill issue, on the designers part.

    • @exorphitus
      @exorphitus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@clayxros576 Inexperienced designers would explain it. As well as the game just being so young nobody had figured out was a "balanced" card was yet.
      MAgic : The Gathering had the same issue starting out. If you go back and look at the original cards they were, much like Yugioh's early sets, either game destroyingly powerful or so weak or loaded with downsides as to be entirely useless.

      I often use early Yugioh as mild inspiration in my own card game. Pretty much only the concepts though, you're correct when you say the early design was a mess. I've looked alot at early MTG.....and middle....and current....and what I mostly see with MTG is what not to do.
      Yugioh in my opinion has a far more diverse mechanical resevoir to draw from. Pretty much the only thing I'm taking inspiration from MTG is resource cards (Lands) and tapping cards as cost.
      I mention all this to affirm why I'm in this comment section, and not the comment section for the latest MTG set lol. i think the last MTG set I looked at was the Commander set with Hullbreacher and the Harry Potter theme. They uh.....I feel bad for Mark Rosewater. Can't imagine how much he and his team are getting crunched with stuff this poorly considered popping out.

      Also stop playing necroface in mass removal decks or as i like to call "anti chaos/chaos" decks. It literally is the antithesis of the entire purpose of the deck. Just because it banishes 5 cards off of your deck with gold sarc doesnt mean its good.

    He also ran magical mallet at 3 in every deck. Not sure why I brought that up, can't be related at all.

    3 Gallis

    2 Dandylion
    3 Ryko
    1 Glow up bulb
    3 Effect Veiler
    3 Battle Fader

    I had a deck just like this monster mash profile only a bit more fun since it had access to more cards - Used Norleras and Phantom of Chaos, Plague, The Dark Creator and Future Fusion binning Five Headed Dragon for Pre-Errata RedMD and Dark Horus, etc... 3 spells was good but 4 was safer - Monster reincarnation, FF, Monster Reborn and Heavy.
    Once you mill once with Merchant, you usually have what you need - Creator in hand, a way to summon phantom of chaos, and Norleras and Plague in grave (best scenario). Top Dark Creator with Plague, Summon Phantom of Chaos, banish Norleras for effect to SEND all cards on field and both hands to grave, draw Dark Creator and game. It was really funny.

    Two things about monk: It can’t be tributed but Cimo could just set it and achieve the same result. Also, I’m pretty sure looking at the deck that it is supposed to be another way to get necroface asap. If it’s on field while you have a macro card, it’s still somewhat easy to proc at that point.

    Omg, Cimo picked a literal unlooseable match up, then lost. This is what happens when you try to cheat the laws of jank. This feels like not a 80-20 but a 95-5 match up.
