I dont think it's happening and a new 2D Zelda will be saved for Switch 2, they need more power to meet their vision for a more ambitious 2D Zelda game. Link's Awakening HD had framerate issues... it dipped a lot...
A sequel to Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is what we need to tie up loose ends that Tears of the Kingdom have left us.
Plus, a companion TOTK story where we get a playable Princess Zelda as she sets out her own adventures in Hyrule’s distant past.

I long speculated that Hidemaro Fujibayashi's successes could translate to a revisiting of the Oracles, namely to develop the long lost third game, and perhaps remake the initial pair as well, maybe even as a three in one. Grezzo would be the obvious and ideal choice, but I'd wonder if they wouldn't reach back out to Capcom'a flagship dev team instead...Monster Hunter has done so well on Nintendo consoles that Capcom handling Zelda again in any capacity isn't so far fetched.
The first 2 would need a remake for game 3, as the initial concept is data mixing between them and the others are too old to do that without NSO, which would kill market potential to require.
Problem with the Oracle titles is that they're already on the Switch via the online service. And they've only been out for a year.
@@francoperalta5986 online service isn't a problem, Nintendo knows how many people use that for old games, and connecting the NSO versions to new games would be almost impossible short of just using codes from them anyone could copy offline easier than bothering with them.

IMO they need to remake all the existing 2D Zelda games in the new Link's Awakening style. I'm all for a new "2D" Zelda but I still think it should be the 2.5D Link's Awakening style.

The last time we had a zelda game taking place somewhere besides hyrule (and was canon as well as good) were the oracle games.

NSO has given me so much access to the 2D Zelda titles. I love those games for what they are. Would be great to have a new installment come October.

I think so many Zelda fans wanted to see more of the Imprisoning War. Only to make the Ancient Sages more fleshed out since there isn't much background info, provided Rauru, Sonia, and Mineru more screentime, and give Ganondorf a glimpse of his backstory.
As "non canon" as everyone claims it to be; it did bleed into Tears of the Kingdom.
Harbinger Ganon damn near made an appearance; rather than being a corrupted Terrako, it was a corrupted construct. When defeated, it explodes similar to Calamity Ganon but also has gloom mixed into the malice; implying that the malice is certainly weaker than gloom. Malice for posessing, gloom for absorbing.
There are a few references to AoC, regardless of it being canon or not. Heck; even having an older young Purah is seen in AoC.
More or less; the ideas used to create Age of Calamity were definitely thought about and used in the development of Tears of the Kingdom; ideas definitely bled into tears from AoC.
Another game to consider is that game staring Zelda as the protagonist that Papagenoes has been going on about. Granted, if that's true, we don't know what form that takes. If its a spin off, it could be that top down game we speculate.
I’m really hoping for a brand new 2D Zelda. A return to old form Zelda, or maybe bring 2D into this new concept that BotW and TotK has started. I would much rather that over a remake of any other Zelda.

People want an HD remaster of twilight princess, but I'd love to see an OoT remaster. Second to that, I wouldn't mind a 3d remake of the Oracle games like they did with Link's Awakening.
I think this is going to be a Re-Release and remaster type of direct with announcements of not only Metroid prime 2 and 3 but also probably several Zelda games. I'm also hoping to see Star Fox adventures and Star Fox assault which are the two most unique Star Fox games, both also on the GameCube which didn't do very well either. Much like the Wii u. Also hoping that the new original thing that we see is the all new Metroid prime 4 and the first official first look at it
I think a new 2D Zelda is destined for a Switch 2 release, alongside a 3D Mario, to tempt people to buy the new system. Assuming a remaster of ALBW isn't happening.
Having no dlc for Tears of the Kingdom is a big mistake Nintendo is making. The story could’ve been better if we have a playable Princess Zelda with the interactive geoglyph memories. Let alone in favor of the lore focused, learning about the Zonai, provide Rauru, Sonia, and Mineru more screentime, make the Anceint Sages more of a fleshed out characters, bringing in Twinrova, and provide a background of who Ganondorf is before becoming the Demon King. It would’ve been a great companion TOTK story so would it be better if Nintendo makes it as a spinoff?
I think that they might reveal a remake for the four sword game because that is the only Zelda game not on NSO.

Nah, I don't think they are releasing anything new from Zelda before the Switch 2 but as most give us Wind Waker and Twilight Princess remakes before that to keep us happy in the meantime.
I wouldn't mind a remaster of the oracle games and minish cap but id absolutely love a tphd and wwhd to release on switch!
LBW was sooo goooood. If we can get something that could rival that, I’d be so happy. The Link’s Awakening remake was also STELLAR. Prob my favorite zelda game full stop. Marin singing the ballad of the wind fish will NEVER get old
The old team behind 2D Zelda games has been disbanded. The only person in leadership there that remained was the guy that did Mario Wonder. There's quite a good video on the topic at Nintendo Forecast youtube channel.
I believe we're in for a brand new Zelda announcement sooner than later. Given how ToTK was finished (design-wise) more than two years ago, by the time Switch 2 releases, it would be almost three years. That's plenty of time to prepare an announcement and show the new concept + teaser trailer.
Link's awakening was awesome. I never played the original, but I loved the switch remake. It'll be cool to get a new 2d-ish Zelda.

It will be something silly like a Zelda Cooking game or a Zelda Rhythm game.
An island-hopping Zelda with BOTW/TOTK physics and underwater exploration would be a great way to make a sequel to Tears of the Kingdom if not a dream game since Windwaker.
And reintroducing Labrynna (Oracle of Ages) and Holodrum (Oracle of Seasons) with the TOTK/BOTW physics may not be a bad idea since many of us are curious of what’s outside of Hyrule’s borders.I am more curious of what Yona’s Zora’s Zora's Domain is like.
The Era of the Wild needs a proper conclusion of Hyrule being rebuilt and Link x Zelda started a family of their own. Thus, Link, Zelda and the Sages (Sidon, Tulin, Riju and Yunobo) set out on an exploration of foreign lands outside of Hyrule by sea.
That would make an excellent RPG-style game with the Champions being your party members
Why RPG? Link is not a blank slate character. He is his own actual character if you read his journal entries in the Japanese.

Finally someone is saying this. The sequel could be exploring beyond hyrule like you said but into 4 other kingdoms, a new tribe that uses red called the Lomei, and a 4th map known as the realms. All 5 kingdoms would have 4 maps and hyrule wouldn’t be accessed until it’s the endgame against the yiga clan and demise. In other words, all of the other kingdoms main quests and problems must be solved

I’m hoping NINTENDO will make a remake of Oracle Of Season and Ages in the same style of Awakening… BUT!!!!! BUT! BUT BUT!!!!! With the big twist of entering the THIRD GAME in that series. Than never ended out on the selfs. Imagine the power of that makeover/release. Sadly that will probably never happen. One can only wish for it.
The first zelda game I tried was majoras mask then ocarina and didn’t beat either but I played breath of the wild and tears and now I’m a Zelda fan. Imma go back and properly OC and MM but I really wanna play twilight princess.

There isn't gonna be a new Zelda game after we just had one last year. And there isn't gonna be re-releases unless it's ALttP+FS on NSO. If we're getting any Zelda news at all, it's most likely gonna be the Zelda movie. Nintendo has made it clear that they're only interested in working on 3D Open World Zelda games now. And their main focus right now is the movie. That's the sad truth we all have to face. Especially as Nintendo doesn't even actually really care about the series enough to do anything else other than whatever makes them the big bucks. And right now, that's open world Zelda.

So, whether it is a remake, or a new 2D title, I'd be happy. I'm going to say something unpopular; I didn't really like Tears of the Kingdom. It added several new gimmicks I wasn't a fan of, discarded a few QoL improvements Wild had received; mostly via DLC (ancient saddle, Master Sword pedestal, actual access to bombs), and doubled down on a few mechanics I just didn't like, and then the story, but I don't feel like saying that makes it a bad game; I just don't Luke it, but it's obviously moved units. Still, I would say it's buzz didn't last as long as Wild's, and it's only been a year. We know no DLC is coming, so a new, quick title would be great! If you've already beaten Tears, and want more, but a different, experience, or if you weren't as excited, and just want you nostalgia back, with something more like hiw Zelda used to be, a new 2D title, or a remake, would rock. That's me, at least, and here's hoping!

I don't think they have a cast yet. Casting is one of the last things you do before filming, and the film is probably still in pre-production.

we need a new game
After so long, I am afraid that brand new 2D Zelda is dead. The newest game in the mainline series was over a decade ago. Until Big N says so, I think 2D is no more for a while. Only remakes and 2D remakes until maybe the next switch. I'll be surprised, happily, if I'm wrong.
And slightly off topic, but I doubt there's going to be any remakes at all for Zelda announced this direct. No more Zelda on switch is my prediction. I hope I'm wrong, but people are getting their hopes way too high.
Hopefully in a few weeks I can come back and eat my words.
i would say 2d zelda's trajectory has been on par with if not a little lower than 2d mario so i stay hopeful

Trust me, you're not the only one wants a new 2D Zelda game finally. But the chances of that ever happening again are very slim right now. Another remake is better than nothing. The last remake sold a lot better than the last new 2D Zelda game (A Link Between Worlds). I don't think they want to make a new 2D Zelda anytime soon. Making remakes seems like the safest option for them right now.
For right now new 2d Zelda is on the way. You play as Zelda to save link. People wanted a playable Zelda. Right now no remakes or ports of Wind waker and Twilight princess but hoping a surprise announcement later on as their being sat on😮
