I just ran into the oak tree with a mint mace and started swinging around the spider.
Anyone can kill them with arrows. I want to find out how the hell to fight them with melee weapons so you can get the trinket

i fought the same wolf last night from the bike tire. i walked up the steep rim and jumped onto the steel spokes and just shot arrows straight down at him.
I still have some trouble with the Infected Wolf because I just don’t like to cheese stuff, obviously I’ll prepare for hard fights and stuff but nothing that feels too op like staying up high and using upgraded two handed weapons (I don’t like two handed weapons anyway so I basically just use the Salt Morningstar).
The infected creatures have resistance to salt weapons so you are making it hard for yourself.. You need to use different types of weapons because for example the Infected Wolf is weak to Mint/Busting weapons like the Mint Mace but resistant to salt/chopping.
I don't like to cheese stuff either for example the orb weaver is where you set up a lure trap hide in the pop can and shoot arrows at him and I think that is so cheap because you can just bring a shield or learn how to perfect block and it's a super easy fight (I learned from experience)
A level 7 mint mallet will wake short work of him, don't even bother with parrying or anything, just smack it in the face a few times.
@@Algernon1979 Not on Woah though. His jump explosive attack cannot be blocked and is instakill. I just try and push my nose to his to try and avoid him doing this but it doesn't always work. May have to leave Widow armour at home and use Roly
@@talis61 Yeah I play on woah as well ^^" but usually when i have to kill it i still go full whack mode but with maxed out gear and buffs, most times you get a stun and win easily, sometimes it jumps and ruins your day :D besides ranged attacks and a cheese strat I can't see a way to fight it properly that isn't spray and pray (or whatever the melee equivalent is called)
You can cheese the one under the oak tree make it jump up on one of the roots jump off and book it to the lamp next to it sit back behind the leaf and just shoot it to death with the crossbow with normal arrows
What would be the reason to fight the infected wolf spider rather than the regular wolf spider?

Both what the two above me said lol + Spider fangs go into Liquid Rage and Fungal growth goes into food and explosives but just don't eat the explosives ;-)
@@talis61 I think spider fangs also go into tier 2 whetstones, which is always nice.
I like that 9 minutes after I kill and infected wolf spider by my self u post this and I did it with tier 3 mithridatism a level 6 mint mallet and a lot of guts and this is the third time I've done it because on my friends world we live by the oak tree at the edge of the pond
Btw the first two times was without the mint mallet and with 2 pieces of armor my ladybug chest plate had broke trying to build some ovens and I was not even needing to do I just wanted to
My way… play in custom mode. Go into settings put his health at .25 percent. Boom! Roasted! Settings back to normal. Keep playing.
Question: What difficulty are you playing on?
You can also do this off the bike front fork.
lure it towards the Roly Poly and help it out with a mint mace or fresh arrows

I’m a fan of the bow for down-range and the shield & spear for perfect blocking & throwing the spears in CQC. But I really like the larva blade DOT (Damage Over Time).
Maybe if I use the Wolf spider venom on my 8 spears? Is that even possible? I figured so since there’s spicy&mint?

An even easier way is the black ox hammer lvl 9 fresh works great just hit your perfect blocks makes it easy even on woah
Yeah but how do you block the explosive attack? Even with the Sleek gas mask explosive resist+rest of Widow set Bulky Lv 9 it one shots me on Woah. Plus if I use Aphid Slippers in combat I can't use Quickness to run out of the way because the devs decided to root me to the spot until combat ends for around 5 ish seconds (Edit: apparantly there's a bug with running in combat currently??). So no more dodging/running like you used to. Maybe the devs are trying to emulate "Well ya cant run coz ya have sh*t stuck to yer a***!!"....lol But yeah back in 0.13, your Lv 9 Fresh Hammer choice was a great tool for the Infected Wolf + other infected. Another thing that ruined hammers is that they made them the same speed/attack animation as the 2 handed Mace/Clubs which is silly because one handed should always be a bit faster than two.....ahhhh well. I kinda use Bows now for the Infected Wolf which is against my playstyle.....but Im open to any ideas you have :-)

Bring the one by the tree to the pond and make him jump in. Easy fight every time. It just doesn't give you credit for the kill. (The status effect won't progress) you can collect the loot after.

I've never struggled with wolf spider's infected or otherwise. They're attacks are so telegraphed they are so easy to perfect block and the koi armor just makes it easier to deny them.
You and I are a rare breed unfortunately. You would think stuff like this would be easy for others too but nah.

Good luck perfect blocking the jumping explosive attack!! Its instakill on Woah. In 0.12-0.13 they were manageable but they are a different beast now (returning to 1.1+ after a 6 month break). Closing the distance helps to try and fool the AI but the sods still jump at close quarters....
@@talis61I haven't plugged up the weed killer yet in my woah mode but when I do I'll see how it fairs. If the attack requires a physical attack to land the perfect block should cancel out the explosion. It's the same with wolf spider poison, once you prefect block it cancels any damage from going through.

It has been said few times on reddit, u jump on rolly next to bicycle wheel, shoot the spider then jump on wheel itself, spider agro always on rolly, rolly wins 7/10 times. If not, spider is one-shot by lvl7 crossbow using crow arrow.

Don't use Spicy against it. It's weak to Fresh (Mint) damage.
