    Yes, welcome back. Continue to keep priorities first, but keep up the good work. We'll be here and look forward to new videos as you find time. I like the unique ideas and quality of work and presentation in general. I get to have a hobby vicariously until I can have a shop space again one day. Thank you for sharing your enjoyment of the craft.

    I restore woodworking tools as a hobby, and you saw parts came out beautifully! I'm so glad you decided to put your time and efforts into the saw. These machines are meant to last a long time, and with regular maintenance, they will. We have a lot of power tools from the 1920-1930s in our family business and have them maintained by a retired machinist. They know these machines inside out from working with them and because of their care- monthly cleaning, oiling, & greasing they have been running since the time they were bought by my grandfather. They are also sharpened weekly. You know have something you can pass onto your grandkids to use someday.

    2:19 This is what happens when you tell a woodworker to go "brush his teeth"! :D Great video Jean and double great to see you again. I can't wait for this saw to be finished. I am dying to know how you'll work it into your work-bench or if it will cause you to re-think your entire layout. See you JUST NOW! Cheers!

    Nice one Jean! I am restoring the exact same saw and it has turned out to be quite a major project, but the end result I am sure will be worth it, these are real solid machines. Look forward to your updates!

    Hear me out on the thing about the lettering.
    The primer has a rough texture and the aluminium filing will get stuck inside it's pores. But with a good glossy top coat the filings have no such pores they can get stuck in so you just have to rinse it off when you are done sanding, saving you the tideous work with the taping. Just make sure you spray a final coat of clear coat after sanding and cleaning so the aluminium won't hav a chance of oxidising.
    Keep up the good work!

    Another way to paint letters is to paint the letters with wood glue and let it dry then spray the rest of the plate. Once paint is cured just pull the glue off the letters.

    Very nice mr l would be very happy with your new saw as for the fence l think l would look for a new one and a rail the same width as your work bench was just looking and is your new saw higher than your work bench now 🤔 well when you do get it all done l hope it gives you a lot of satisfaction stay safe 👍👏👏

    For the sign, what I have done, is to paint, then when it is like 3/4 dry, use a rag slightly damp with paint thinner to gently rub off the paint on the letters. No sanding required. 👍

    I’d paint the wood panels on the back wall white before you install the table saw, make it the standout piece

    Another way to not get paint on those raised surfaces. Is to coat them with a thin layer of petroleum jelly. After paint dries you can wipe the jelly away.

  • @gaz740
    @gaz740 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looking good Jean. Slowly but surely does it every time. You could possibly have used a hot glue gun to cover the letters in hot glue then paint it totally and once it was dry peel the glue off.

    A thought for future cleaning projects, put the wire brushes in your drill press and hold the parts. You will have far more flexibility, with not having half the part clamped. Set the drill press on its lowest speed

    well done as usual!
    I wonder why you didn't like the paint all and sand the surface method on the signage. it seemed to have worked well. I believe it would give even better edges comparing to tape + knife method. especially when the paint is darker and more contrasting against the aluminium shiny surface.

    • @WoodshopJunkies
      @WoodshopJunkies  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The edges was definitely better but the aluminium stained the paint and it bothered me. I figured that when I do the top coat it will spoil the look.

    • @TigerCarpenter
      @TigerCarpenter 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WoodshopJunkies after the surface sanding, you could use cotton bud dipped in the thinner to touch up the stained aluminium

    You were worried about pitting those parts ..over here in the States we have softer media's then sand for those older and more delicate parts. Might want to check with somebody that does antique car restoration if you do another restoration .. looking great 👍👍
    Side note: if you didn't know ..never spray WD40. or lithium in the same room your painting in .. it will cause what is called " fish eye " in your painted project even worse if it gets into the bare surface of your project ..it will be extremely difficult to get out. ( 10 yrs restoring antique and classic cars with dad who did it for over 30)
