The Dowager, despite knowing that Yonghuang was not being taken care of well and is a target of other concubines, does nothing to help his situation.

Shu had an obligation to the Empress Dowager since she was only there to help influence the Emperor. More or less didnt keep her end of the deal type. In the prequel, Empresses in the Palace, Ruyi’s aunt, the Empress in that show, killed off practically most of the children in the harem including one of the Empress Dowager's own, so she’d never tolerate children being harmed.

Poor Ruyi. I just finished this series and it broke my heart how badly the emperor treated her. I liked him in the beginning and by the middle of the series, I was sick of him and his bratty attitude. For an emperor, he sure was an egotistical, selfish brat.
From Yanxi story, I learnt why he became heartless. It was because Yongzheng emperor killed his wet nurse daughter, for playing with him. Yongzheng emperor was another example of ruthless and heartless emperor. But, for the good of a country and nation, it is necessary.

The most probable explanation is, Rong Bin's arrival was arguably the beginning of Ruyi's demise as an empress. Sure, we can say that she's doomed the moment she became the empress or even when she met Hongli, but with Rong Bin's arrival, whether she even wanted to be there in the first place or not, did cause a lot of tension in the harem. Ying Fei has stayed long enough in the palace to be very loyal to Ruyi, and of course she will turn away from Rong Bin because of said tension. She definitely knows that atleast Rong Bin supports the empress superficially, but did not expect that she would use her own resources to help the empress when she could have just enjoyed the emperor's favour silently. As for why Ying Fei would think that way when Rong Bin blatantly rejected the emperor several times, she was raised by the Barin tribe, which also have the harem system. She was familiar with how women in the harem usually act, threats to their favour are often returned twicefold and such, that she wouldn't eactually expect Rong Bin to be an exception.

She did this, she did that, she behaved like this, she acted like that, he made me do it, he lured me. 只可惜最後，也是落得個蘭因絮果，如懿自然惋惜，但其實如懿請甄嬛帶給炩妃的話，也是說她自己.....「一場局，進與不進，都是自己選的，半點怨不得旁人。」如懿之所以這麼說，也是對自我的失望吧，終究是錯付，但怨不得旁人，所以她不怨。

Typical narcissistic and egocentric behavior from the emperor; It's always somebody else's fault, never his. She did this, she did that, she behaved like this, she acted like that, he made me do it, he lured me. Even when the actions of Ruyi are as a result of his excesses he still won't see his wrongs and will only see and emphasize on hers. He expects her to behave like a ''mother of the nation'' in the sense that she should be a quiet tool accepting anything from him without ever demanding respect in return. Narcissists will always blame and criticize your reactions and never see how their own actions triggered them. Worst kind of people on earth to deal with.
