Arou was already losing it after 3 years of being tortured(sleep deprivation) in the harem. Ling joined the harem after Arou and didn't get pregnant until years later(due to her accidentally stealing a birth control medicine). Once she did get pregnant though, I think Arou would have snapped and likely lashed out physically and violently at Ling. All this assuming Arou didn't succumb to madness beforehand. She had reached the point of frequent mental breakdowns by the time Ruyi was released from the cold palace, an event that made the breakdowns worse.
