  • How to change out and troubleshoot the cooling system in a 2013 Cadillac CTS, 3.0 liter. In this video, I change out the fan motor, and the resistor. My issue ended up being the fan motor itself. As such, I recommend testing the fan first, before changing this part. If the fan is good, then it is most likely the resistor.

    Thanks for the great video, best content on youtube for this specific problem. I just switched the resistor but as you demonstrated that wasnt it. Fan motor has been ordered! That deep hidden nut looks like a pain in the ass but we're going to send it!

      Thank you.
      That wasn’t the issue in my case, but is a common issue. It could be either!

    Thank you for your video honestly for me it was just the resistor cables but I changed both just to be extra sure.

    I’m stranded 2 hrs away from home with the same exact issues as you were having. No shop or dealership is willing to even look at it today. Sooooo I’m running by autozone and grabbing one. Fingers crossed.

    Having the same issue with my 2010 awd 3.6 wagon. Going to diagnose here shortly. Seems like I should start at the fan.

    Thank you for the awesome video! I first replaced the temperature sensor that was a tough job to do but it didn't take very long just because I couldn't see it. Now I'm going to test my fan like you did before I go by that resistor you're awesome very good video I appreciate it

    I’m having the same problems , when I push my fan with my finger it starts to spin , do you think I need to just change the resistor ????? Do u think my fan motor is still good

    • @CliffsHowTo
      @CliffsHowTo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Test the fan by running direct 12 volt power to it. If the fan works on direct power, it’s the resistor. If it doesn’t, I’d say it’s the fan.

      I just replaced it and still same thing like you , and another thing I noticed if I spin the fan with my finger it continues to spin . Like if the fan still works

    I'm having the exact same problem with my 2016 CTS 3.6L. I'm having some trouble locating the motor but rockauto has the entire fan assembly for sale for less that 200. Do you have any insight into doing a swap on a CTS? I'm at a loss!

      That stinks… if you’ve not already checked it, the fan relay in the under hood fuse box.

    • @CliffsHowTo
      @CliffsHowTo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And the fan fuse for that matter.

    At 17:14 my 2008 cts does not have that pump. But my new radiator has the hose hook up for it. 1A auto must have the wrong radiators for 2008 cts.

    Really nice video, my car overheats and when I turn the AC on the fan doesn't spin. Will try this do you mind sharing the links for the items you bought please?

      The fan should definitely come on with the a/c. Check the power wire to the fan with a multimeter, to be sure you are getting power to the fan motor.
      If you’re getting power, it’s the motor, if you’re not getting power, it’s and issue before the motor.

    Where is the cooling fan motor located on a 2010 cadillac cts?

    • @CliffsHowTo
      @CliffsHowTo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Should be the same as the 2013. Right by the radiator.

    Mine does the same but I fixed a harnessed wire and went good for a day then everything came back to engine hot ac off 🤦‍♂️

      I don’t like to do that with car parts, because a lot of times, even in the same generation of car, the part numbers and parts can be different. So even if your car looks exactly like this one, the part may not fit.
      I don’t want to give out information that may not be 100% accurate.

    Say Cliff how many miles was on your wife's car when you did this because mines never did make the car run hot 🔥 but my air wouldn't blow cold air when sitting only while driving or on the road

    • @CliffsHowTo
      @CliffsHowTo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      About 90,000ish miles.

    • @iceman100685
      @iceman100685 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CliffsHowTo mines got a 115,000 and it isn't running hot but the AC is doing the same thing that yours is doing. I am working on the resistor as we speak now so I will definitely let you know how it goes. Did you check the fuse and relay before you change that resistor out?

    • @CliffsHowTo
      @CliffsHowTo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn’t. I went straight to the plug for the resistor to see if it was getting power there, using a multimeter.

      High pressure switch is probably bad.
