Watching this after also seeing the video of them rehearsing it in the green room before this show was pretty cool. Amazing how quickly they picked up the tune and polished it up. Taj rocks.
Polished it up? Methinks the backstage version is far superior to the 'on stage' version. It has that raw feel of the Blues when it's coming from the hard times you get in a life. Seeing Taj put it together with a Funk beat On The One was one of the coolest insights into music I've ever seen. That backstage version also shows Derek Trucks smilin'' like a skunk eatin' bumblebees when he and the band 'get' what Taj is trying for. That said, while this version above doesn't have the sound quality of coming off the board, it DOES give us the killer solos all the people in this outfit - plus Jerry Douglas - are known for. Susan Tedeschi plays like she was paying attention when they were putting it together.
@@cristianconstantinescu7264 Agreed, often an intimate recording in a small room with acoustic instruments has lots more of energy, especially when it comes to blues music.
god this is so much fun!!! i love love love all the wordless communication that goes with incredible musicianship and improvisation. derek asking taj mahal if maurice brown can play, taj pointing to susan and susan going "who, me?" it's just so great, you get this super genuine live feeling from it. so much damn fun!
Cool!! 🎉

Real music, real artists. Kind of music I hear in my mind ridin down the road on 2s
Thanks for sharing.
When I am on my deathbed this is what I want to hear, rolling guitars harp trumpet. fuck I love this clip.
This is quite an ABB groove here.
I was on that gig
Is that Jaimoe on drums?
this is too fast, you loose the groove. The one in the rehearsing room was 10x better
Haha, they fucked up the ending. But great perfomance - what a band. And Taj Mahal is one of the most powerfull and deepest musicians I know of.
If a botched ending is your lead takeaway, I think you fucked up watching the video.
