I will say the content is great, but they didn't have to do Nolan like that lol. An 8000 lb. Badlands winch will move that truck for sure. They're $200 with a lifetime warranty at Harbor Freight plus you can still come out $1000 on top.
I love HiLow, but I also agree! There are better cheap options, to where it seems like they were trying hard to make it hard. And maybe that IS the point? I hope Nolan and Aaron get Hi car next time.
Yeah the last 2 episodes have been ridiculous. Instead of ARB lockers vs basically nothing, they had the golden opportunity to go over cheap ass lunch box locker up front. Here same thing. Warn winch vs Badlands. Another case of more expensive does NOT mean more better.
In the next episode of Hi-'spare change found in the couch' we will compare recovery boards vs cat litter and a 50" LED light bar vs two AA battery powered flashlights taped to the A pillars.
I'm shocked they aren't comparing a cheap electric winch vs a expensive one. That would have been a far better comparison. Maybe a harbor freight winch
I enjoy the high low truck videos. However, a high low electric winch would be a bit more reasonable in comparison. How about a $400 vs $1200 winch comparison.
That wouldn't work in the context of the series, they are on a time crunch and the differences in cheap and expensive winches don't usually show up until they've been used a handful of times.
@@-._._._-_._._.- I disagree, some of the stuff they compared had little to no difference. Like the tires, the difference won’t show until many uses . They could of both used winches. The point of the series is to compare hi to low, so If there’s no difference between a hi winch to a low winch the goal was still achieved.
Comealong does have some minor yet noteable advantages. For starters it is able to be mounted to any chassis point to pull from any direction, where the winch is fixed to the one spot. Also it can work without power, in the rare event that a dead car needs to be dragged from a hole.
Already beat me to it. Even the most non-offroading youtube nerd would know this just by watching Matt's offroad recovery. They use the come-along with recovery ropes in various circumstances. And before you look at the banana or morvair and go "ThEY DonT hAvE A WiNCh" They do but it's stored in the back as to not take up rear bumper space for the hitch. Anyways anyone who is interested in offroading and stuff check them out. The recoveries are anywhere from funny, to curious to outright sketchy. It's also a family owned business with the kids and grandfather involved so it's actually quite innocent and wholesome. Pretty comfy youtubing if I must say.
I used an old come along winch my father picked up in the 80's to recover myself from a blizzard while driving a forest service road out of the Rockies a few years back. It took an hour and a half to move 20ft; it wasn't pretty but it worked and got the job done. I have always kept one in the bed of my truck after that, no reason not too.
I've been using a come-along for years. I take my Jeep wheeling quite often and I have a strict budget, I just get things that I need to make wheeling better and nothing more. Thing is, build your ride right and know it's limits, be smart, and you won't get stuck often. 9 times out of 10, throwing a few sticks or a log under it will do the trick. If it doesn't, the come along has gotten me out of everything so far. It's just as dangerous as a winch too, just be smart and safe about it though and you should be fine, and make sure it isn't rusted or shoddy before using it. Again, many years I've used a come along, nothing wrong with it imo.
You can tell Aaron is a good dude but I see he gets frustrated really easily. Zack keeps his cool under pressure. I'd like to see Nolan and James switch partners next time

Pro tip: when using a hook from a winch be sure to "hook up" rather than hook down when attaching to another point. If the hook should fail while under load, it will be sent down into the dirt vs shooting up into the air. Always hook up!
No I’ve always hooked down cause I hooked up well my buddy did and literally had the hook fly over the cab of truck. You want to have it down but I guess it’s how you look at it but agree to make sure it hits the ground also I was going to say the off road Jack is also a winch in away if you know how to use it properly probably better than the winch cause at least it won’t cut you in half.
You guys really missed the mark on this one. I liked that low truck was being given good parts that just aren't as pricey as hi truck. Comparing a come-along to a $1200 winch is dumb, and Nolan deserves better.
yup, a $500 winch from Harbor Freight would have been a much better choice. It's an apples to apples comparison and we can finally find out if more expensive is more better.
Thing is there's electric winches for 100$ on amazon or like a 5000lbs one for 170$ at harbor freight, I'd be more interested in seeing if those do the trick rather than comparing an electric and a manual one where the outcome is definitely easier to predict.
They're doing this for no fucking reason now. He could have gone to a junkyard see if he can salvage one, or bought a low budget version. They're not even doing compare test anymore. If I want this fuckery I'll go to the speed channel. There are so many ways to make this more interesting. You could have given them fabricators and all the cheap parts and still have their ass over there with all the expensive parts. That would be a great comparison! And you can also make an educational thing so people can see you can do it with cheap parts you just got to put more labor in. But now find the crap parts and put them up against the dope shit that you know you can get from your friends in the industry.... Come on... Donut is better than that....
The worst part is you can see in real time them getting fucked when they realize how much they spent... No one says $5,000 like that without knowing somehow they got screwed
Thinking he was a Math Teacher at some point makes it even Funnier for me for some Reason 🤣. He was Probably the coolest Teacher the school has ever seen.
Idk if its planned or not, but what would be really cool, is at the end of this season of hi-low, you guys should take both trucks to an actual trail such as Rubicon for example and see which one performs better in a real world overlanding situation.
Hi truck is not built enough to handle the Rubicon. Particularly with novice drivers. To manage Rubicon with 35s is a job. On 33s its award winning. Every year there are stories of stranded and broken trucks on the trail due to people not knowing what they were getting into because they were novices that bought a jeep and instantly think they can go anywhere because its got 4x4. There are plenty of stock to easy-mod trails in Cali they can cut their teeth on. They even publish guide books for trails out west. If they go out without working with a jeep club I will be Very disappointed. It would be negligent of them to go out without the help of a jeep club.
@@f1y7rap doesn't have to be Rubicon specifically was just the first one that came to mind, and I figured if the new gladiator Rubicon can do id bet these tacos could too. But any trail really would be cool. Nothing wrong with the horseshoe, but it just doesn't really show the trucks capabilities and limitations in real world scenarios.

as someone that has been offroading my whole life with only a shovel and come-a-long and now i have a sweet warn winch, i can tell you they are both very useful. I do still carry a come-a-long under the seat, but mostly use the winch
There comparison sucked, they spent less than %25 on testing. They didn't mention that you need electric power to use the winch, or that it will get rusty and not reliable while being exposed to the elements, as it won't work when you need it most. Also sometimes if you get stuck in the real world, you may need to be pulled backward, or a strong support like a tree may only be available behind your vehicle. The winch has a lot of disadvantages that they ignored
they conveniently placed a truck in the perfect spot, so stupid, they didn't need to use neither the winch or the come along, just pull them out with the truck, the fastest and easiest way, very disappointing video
@@Noah-jb9om Dude that's new parts, what are you talking about? They're $25 because there are warehouses full of parts for my truck. That is the new part price from AutoZone.

Hi-truck already has so much weight on the front because of the bumper - I would go with a synthetic rope on the winch to save some weight. Option for Lo-Truck: Mount a hitch receiver on the front and $400 winch mounted to a hitch plate: You can mount the winch to the front or the back and leave it at home when not needed.
Man I tell you what them come-a-longs sure are useful though, I actually pulled the frame back out on my vehicle using a tree after caving it in using a tree
The evolution of the high truck this episode is absolutely absurd and I love it. Low team could have grabbed a cheap winch and been so much cheaper still lol
I can move a come-along from my Silverado to my Xterra (actually I just keep one in each). A come-along isn't added weight to my front bumper and doesn't need to be hardwired to my battery. I can connect the come-along to the front, rear, or anywhere needed (a winch mounted to a hitch plate can do this and makes the most sense for winch placement) No remote to break on the come-along. I've used the come-along several times and find no need for a winch, but I will say, if you're doing multiple recoveries on a big trip, they're much more efficient. Problem is the winch "looks" cooler on a truck and screams to everyone that you're an off-roader. The come-along hiding in my tool box doesn't give me that needed street cred when driving to work.
Yes, all the best reasons. Plus winches require installation costs, then synthetic line costs, then hook costs, then maintenance, then, then...$2500. My come along with everything was ~$300 and I’ve used it for many more things than compensating for my over aggressive off-roading
Exactly. This episode and the episode comparing lighting really do a good job demonstrating that spending 2x as much as low truck mods is where the value shines through, not 20x
I hope u guys do high and low re gears, re gearing is one of the most important yet overlooked modification for off-road vehicles especially Tacoma’s when u lift, get larger wheels and add a lot of weight.
seeing as they did lockers and stayed with the stock gear ratios without even knowing what they were, I feel pretty confident in saying that they're not gonna get deep into actual off road mods lol
@@luke123231hq It's just needed with bigger tires period, especially on 3rd gens. 5.29's and brake upgrades all around are on the list after getting the 34's to clear at full articulation. After that, once the armor is acquired (still waiting on stuff), OME BP51's with custom springs and valving by accutune for the new weight to replace my TRD lift with OME springs. I'll still keep the TRD/OME combo for when I do eventually have to get the shocks rebuilt and probably have spacers for to make up the slack during the 4wk turn around to get by (and not hit any trails).
To be honest I like Nolan and Aaron as the underdogs because they're so chill about it, most of the time at least lol. I think the team's work pretty well and James is actually working hard this season, rather than just letting everyone else do the work.
I feel like you should have both a manual and electric winch, in case your battery is dead or the manual one can't cut it. Manual one is small enough where it can go under a seat or in the back indefinitely, so space isn't really a concern
There's also the convenience of the come-alone with A) not having to install it, B) being able to offload it when you don't need it, and C) not being financially burdened.
And that it is usable at the front and at the rear (and in non automotive uses). A fixed front winch could be dead weight if the only ankerpoint is to the rear.
Also you don't need electricity, if for whatever reason your alternator gets fried and/or your battery dies you can still pull something out. Would still have a dead battery but that's a challenge for another time 😂
@@lanceuppercut6168 If your alternator or battery take a shit in the middle of nowhere i think getting the vehicle out of the mud/stuck is the least of your worries.
To be fair, the come along is a very versatile tool. IMHO I would rather have a come along, shovel, and a jack all than a winch. That being said, I love my winch.
Yeah for something that is a last resort I don't like the fact the electric winches are: A - Electrically Powered (this is bad for extraordinarily long term longevity and is bad for doomsday scenarios where power is not available) B - Lots of moving parts and mounts could fail being fixed to the vehicle and all (this is bad for extraordinarily long term longevity, also if one mount fails you have SEVERAL other options with the come along) C - Cannot be used in other places that your vehicle is not or cannot be. (Bad for if you need a winch but your vehicle is dead/cannot fit to the location) Reasons I still like electric winches: A - They're pretty fucking cool.
@@slowfudgeballs9517 with the ethanol in gas it'll all be worthless a few months into the apocalypse. When shit goes down you'll probably want a bicycle or some horses.
What you didn't mention is that the come-along has uses outside of just getting a truck un-stuck. I had one that I kept with my truck, but I'd also take it out to do work in the yard, hoist my motorcycle from a ceiling mount I put together so I could work on it, as well as a variety of uses while camping. Sure, you could use the truck winch for some of that, but then your truck is stuck there being the winch whereas the come-along can be anchored to a rock, tree, etc. The price difference on this one was pretty severe, and maybe it would have been a better test to go with a super cheap winch instead of a come-along just because they're so different. A come-along is just another tool that happens to be able to fill in double duty as a truck winch.
Come-along also has other uses in off-roading. If you do some damage and bend a rail or something onto a tyre, you can use a come-along to bend things back out of the way.
A Harbor Freight winch cost about $200 for a 8000 lb setup and has a lifetime warranty. Where I live people work. Not at a desk but farm work. Only the rich and wannabe poser rich have a Warn. Everyone else has a HF.
I’m building a 2001 Volvo V70xc budget battle wagon and this video was a help, it sealed the deal on not going with either system but instead I’m leaning towards the ARB Magnum Hand Winch. Power winch is just to heavy and mounting it is troublesome, meanwhile the come along is just not enough and setup and taking up slack takes forever. BTDubz, luv’n the low truck build.
If you can afford a bit of extra weight, come-along is another useful recovery tool I guess. Sometimes you can't use your winch (e.g. if your winch setup requires an active engine without spare battery, and you are rolled over or stalled, or if its a weird recovery angle and the winch installed location just won't be feasible etc).
Next season of High low it would be interesting to see a “medium” build. Focused on value rather than cheapness you can splurge where you feel it’s necessary but you focus on not being excessive. I think this would be really interesting to see considering the conclusion always seems to be “buy something in the middle of high and low”
One episode for tires and suspension, one for armor and recovery gear, maybe one for accessories and then a big test with all 3 trucks for the finale. Some of the work could be shown in highlight form but most of the technical details can be skipped since they got explained the first go around. A lot of that detail could be from the planning phase where they are deciding what they need and why. Maybe a budget limit "If You Had $___ To Build A Truck" what would you put it towards.
I think that’s kinda the whole point of these series. The result of the end discussion is what they would put on. Or where they would ‘splurge’. You end up with some expensive and some cheap. They go to both ends of the spectrum so you end up with the middle ground.
I reckon you lads should have done a weekend off-road trip before this to get an idea of how much, as amateurs, you'd actually need a winch and all these other mods. And as stated, you can buy dirt cheap winches that'll do the job just fine. Actually felt sorry for Nolan in this one haha
I wouldn't want to see these guys out anywhere more severe than the place they shoot these videos. I think they'd all get seriously injured without anyone in the group actually knowing what they are doing in that arena. After all, they have a Hi-Lift jack that would have gotten them out of that "stuck" situation with a quickness.
A front mounted winch is great for front pulls, but a hand winch is ten times more useful in hard situations/sticks. Plus, the hand winch is easier to maintain and doesn't require batteries/running engines. Yes, you can also have a portable winch to stick in a receiver hitch on the front or rear, but you can also use the hand winch for a side or off angle pull. The come-a-long is an OK tool, but there are way better options on the market, like the "more power puller" and others.
I’ve repeatedly used a come along to self recover when I was 18/19. A couple chains and the come along works just fine. Especially if you are financially challenged/young/or just starting out. It’s affordable and useful. Not only to recover but I’ve also done a little body repair with it as well. If your going to be doing things where you might get stuck routinely, you should be building accordingly and have a winch. Not bare minimum for your vehicle either always go a level or two higher. Makes things easier in the equipment and lowers the risk of not working/breaking.
While living in our van and taking it off road although it's a 2wd we have found the come along more versatile. We have been in situations where we had to winch ourselves out of going in reverse. For instance on a beach. Our come along winch pulled us out no problem, but if we'd had a winch up front we wouldn't be able to go back.
i took my winch off the front of my truck and #9 wired it to my headache rack, dropped the tailgate and ran the winch out the bed, worked fine, i do not recommend.
We used to run the winch under the truck, under the diffs and back to whatever you could reach. One of the reasons I still run wire rope instead of synthetic.
Nolan said their trucks can go anywhere, and James foolishly said “except for space”. Well I got some news for you JaMeS...anything is possible with family😤!
Where does FAMILY come here? You are literally non-sensible. If it works you try it out first like "Family, I need to go to Mars on a private spacecraft."
The come-along has one major advantage that makes it worth carrying even if you have a winch- flexibility. Winches are great, if you can get lined up properly. If you need to go backwards the winch on the front bumper is useless. A come-along works from every angle.
@Mostlyharmless1985 They are. But only if you have enough of them and enough cable to use them. And if you're stuck in deep mud it may be impossible to run a cable under the rig regardless whether you have the gear.
I have a feeling they didn’t do a winch on low truck because they really don’t have a place to mount it, and it’s a liability if they start yanking on it with enough force to get unstuck and the bumper pops off and hits someone or whatever. To do winches on both they should’ve gone with the cheapest winch bumper they could find, or just one with a receiver hitch and made nolan use one of those $80 plug in receiver winches from Walmart.
@@brandonchevy6772 this is produced so i feel like they knew the winch episode was coming, they could have at least welded a little spot for one, then again they barely were able to weld anything
@@brandonchevy6772 I'm guessing it's mostly to do with the entertainment side of things. It's a show, they are in a time constraint, while they could just have expensive winch vs cheap winch, but I think the difference between the winch will come down to durability, and they aren't gonna get stuck a thousand times and a thousand ways, to find or show the viewers the difference in a 20mins episode. But if it's a winch vs a come-along, it's an immediete difference, so you can make a show about that. Instead of having 2 winch, maybe 200usd vs 1200usd, and then they have identical performance for like 10 recoveries. Nolan at the end also acknowledge that, so he said he'll just buy a cheap winch. And, a come-along, can be used anywhere, where if you have a winch, you only be able to use it in one direction, unless you mount it high up on the headache rack/roof bar, it also doesn't matter if you have a winch or not if your car's battery or engine died
Agreed we have come alongs in all our vehicles, and a nice long piece of pipe in the bed. Saves your face and because of African conditions we never travel alone. So one person pulling back and one pushing forward like a giant saw, experience has taught me if you have extra vehicles on hand then the drop in pin type tow hitch works as an excellent pivot for the cable. Ordinarily we don't keep much cable either as it's heavy and straps are lighter and more universal and double for securing loads.
We actually had to use the manual come along winch when we were getting the Isuzu Rodeo. It didn't run at the time, so we had to put it on the dolly using it. Need less to say, as long as you have something nearby and stationary, it works very well.
The next season of High Low needs to showcase James in the low car and Nolan in the high car. I really expected them to switch this season, since Nolan was in low car last time. Come on Donut. Mix it up a bit.
Cuz James has always been the show pony of the channel, he won everyone over with his comedy on up to speed, but after his heart attack he hasn't done alot of them. I honestly feel like the dude that does moneypit is more entertaining now and he's knowledgeable as hell. That's what I'm looking for. But I do like when they compare the cheap vs expensive but giving nolan a come along is kinda un fair he should of got a harbor freight winch, but I get it they wanted to test the cheaper option that wasn't a winch to really see if its a viable option which it is but it ain't. Idk
the series started out interesting and now its just "what can we do to make nolan look dumb this week". At least do cheaper options of the same thing such as a warn winch setup vs a cheaper brand. Makes for more interesting content as well as showing people you can do a build on a budget.
Someone else in the comments said you could get a Badlands 8,000lbs. winch for around $200. Seeing two different kinds of winches would have been more entertaining than watching Aaron and Nolan struggle for a half hour to get Low Truck out of that divot.

@@TheMaloLalo that’s true, but the $80 winch at HF is a 2000lb winch for an ATV. The comparable winch to high truck would’ve been a ZXR 9k. Which is still only $340. The come along was cool, but yeah not using a winch to compare to another winch was dumb.
@@hipster_tacos they still might. There was that gap when all the parks were opening back up a few months back and this is one of the shows they pre film.
I have to say, in my days of being a young dumb highschooler and off roading all the time, there were plenty of times where I got stuck and spent HOuRS trying to figure out how to get out. An 80-dollar come along could have got me out of a lot of those situations a lot faster, and would be feasible for me as a highschooler. A 1200 dollar winch on the other hand, never would have even considered getting it.
Come Alongs are great for rear winching when you're solo. Offroading to winch yourself backwards you need 3 snatchblocks and multiple ropes/chains IF there are trees & rocks in the right places to pull yourself out. With a come along you can just pull yourself out as your emergency tool
The farm jack you had plus some tow chain is actually a much stronger piece of pulling equipment than the come-along you bought, but only good for about 4 feet until you have to adjust the setup.
It's main advantage I think is that you can attach it to any point on your truck. Like, maybe you have to back out from somewhere, with a front mounted winch is much more difficult to do.
This is rather fun to watch, because I can see literally my buddies truck build appearing with High Truck. I think he dropped like $20-$30k in add-ons and upgrades and I want to say added over a ton of extra weight. (Also for the record he has needed his winch at least twice ... well almost, we did get out without one time, didn't have diff locks)
I love how the high low series literally highlights why most people build brilliant mid car/trucks. You don’t need to spend top dolla but you should spend a bit 😂
Just have to say, the animation in the intro is so cool. Thought, "Nice intro," when I saw it in the first episode, but then later realising the front bumpers matched what they actually put on in the armour episode, etc...totally tight attention to detail. Props!
Remember it’s always wise to put your hood up while winching. If the cable snaps and comes back it can hurt/kill you. The hood is your shield. Hoods are cheap, your life is not. Safe wheelin 👍
@@figarybka1393 they probably didn't think about it or didn't want to do the rope conversion, that specific one comes with cable on it. A lot of people still prefer Cable over rope though. Rope definitely has some pros though, it's safer like you said, easier to work with and it's a lot lighter, like a hundred lbs lighter of some winches.
I can honestly say that the Badland Apex 12k winch is worth every penny I've spent on it, along with all of my Gear America recovery gear...I have yet to need any of it off road, thanks to good spotters and all of my other equipment, but the winch has still come in handy for pulling other people out, moving dead vehicles around the property, pulling huge evergreen junipers out of the ground, pulling down dead trees, moving my garage wall that slipped off of its foundation, and more...and when I do finally need it for off road use, I know just how capable all of my recovery gear and my winch is...it's better to have something and not need it, than to need it and not have it...
You guys can totally find the “best bang for your buck” items for low truck I think it would be more realistic and relatable No one out here is just buying the CHEAPEST everything to mod their vehicle

The winch is great if you have the truck it’s mounted on. The come along is portable for different vehicles or different situations, including those not involving vehicles.
Heart-Under-Blade. It really depends on the trail your on with its difficulty. Where i live, its a necissity to have a winch because the average trail requires a winch on standby.
@@nimbleryan735 if you can’t avoid situations where you’d constantly need a winch you should probably just not drive that trail until you have a more capable vehicle. Tires, lockers, traction boards, and just picking a better line are gonna get you more miles than a winch. Not that winches aren’t convenient, but that’s it, unless you’re constantly having to drive Alaskan logging roads in spring they’re more a convenience than a necessity.

However, a high low electric winch would be a bit more reasonable in comparison.
How about a $400 vs $1200 winch comparison.
That wouldn't work in the context of the series, they are on a time crunch and the differences in cheap and expensive winches don't usually show up until they've been used a handful of times.
I agree, but they didn't fab a spot for a winch, on their front bumper. That would have required a redesign. And James, it's WIN-ch, not wench.

For the size and price of the come-along, there's no reason to not have one even if you've already got a winch.
even with electric winch you would want Comealong in the kit
The More Power Puller. Saved my ass a few times.
Again, many years I've used a come along, nothing wrong with it imo.
what gear do you use with the come-along? tow straps? ropes? what lengths? Strict budget here too.

Weight and maintenance vs times uses are the biggest drawback to the winch
They didn't count the price for the new bumper ( which is NOT cheap ) + installation ( electrical and mechanical ).
This series just highlights how great the extra medium option is
Exactly. This episode and the episode comparing lighting really do a good job demonstrating that spending 2x as much as low truck mods is where the value shines through, not 20x

To be fair, the come along is a very versatile tool. IMHO I would rather have a come along, shovel, and a jack all than a winch. That being said, I love my winch.
Yeah for something that is a last resort I don't like the fact the electric winches are:
A - Electrically Powered (this is bad for extraordinarily long term longevity and is bad for doomsday scenarios where power is not available)
B - Lots of moving parts and mounts could fail being fixed to the vehicle and all (this is bad for extraordinarily long term longevity, also if one mount fails you have SEVERAL other options with the come along)
C - Cannot be used in other places that your vehicle is not or cannot be. (Bad for if you need a winch but your vehicle is dead/cannot fit to the location)
Reasons I still like electric winches:
A - They're pretty fucking cool.

A quick follow up maybe a few episodes where both teams come together on a truck and have to agree on parts for Mid Truck.
Medium car is just money pit imo
That’s money pit

If your going to be doing things where you might get stuck routinely, you should be building accordingly and have a winch. Not bare minimum for your vehicle either always go a level or two higher. Makes things easier in the equipment and lowers the risk of not working/breaking.
Personally, if you get stuck so often you need a winch, find other trails lol
While living in our van and taking it off road although it's a 2wd we have found the come along more versatile. We have been in situations where we had to winch ourselves out of going in reverse. The come-along has one major advantage that makes it worth carrying even if you have a winch- flexibility. Winches are great, if you can get lined up properly. If you need to go backwards the winch on the front bumper is useless. A come-along works from every angle.
Pulleys are magical devices.
@Mostlyharmless1985 They are. But only if you have enough of them and enough cable to use them. And if you're stuck in deep mud it may be impossible to run a cable under the rig regardless whether you have the gear.
Y’all need to re-do this episode… and give low car a real winch
Same with the last episode and giving them a cheap lunch box locker in the front, and actually wire up the rear locker properly
@@brandonchevy6772 If they had a point to tie a cable to then most likely they could weld some metal stock in the same place and use a winch
You have to have a breaker bar for the come along...they go hand in hand!🔥💪
Harbor freight winch and a snatch block would have been a sick side by side challenge. Warn would get put to shame.
@@brandonr.2807 problem is this season is sponsored by eBay. I just check on the site and there’s hardly one item listed from harbor freight if it’s is it’s used.
th-cam.com/video/P0J8PngvLYw/w-d-xo.html
I hate that the commentary is really just “bash on budget stuff” cause the budget setup is something I would love to have once I have the cash for a 2nd vehicle. I have a commuter car, next thing will be a small pickup for trailing just like their build
When the drill bit fell out and into the bed wall of low truck I just laughed more than I should have 😂.
Speaking from experience.
Wheeling in the snow with no recovery gear is stupid, after stuck for 3 hours thank God for the hunters who used a COME ALONG and help us out. Definitely saved our day and possibly life.
Needless to say I bought a winch and traction boards the next week and have yet to use them, (three years later) but yeah they look cool
this needs a remake episode with a not so cheap option
the funny part is that you can get the same hand winch at harbor freights for way cheaper (maybe $30) and and actual electric wench for the same $80 price tag
When y’all are finished with the trucks y’all should go off-roading to a campsite and spend a couple nights there.
The Angeles National Forest is a great spot. Right off of Big Rock Creek
@@LsdGuy The national forests are closed in California 😔
they already mentioned tents and im pretty sure everything is already filmed. i bet thats gonna be how they end it
@@hipster_tacos they still might. There was that gap when all the parks were opening back up a few months back and this is one of the shows they pre film.
The Hammers.
Or a More Power Puller, or they could have used the Hi-Lift jack as a hand winch.
Yeah. In high school we had another buddy who wasn't stuck at the moment and the best "rope like object" we had on hand.
@@Skooozle is
Come Alongs are great for rear winching when you're solo. Offroading to winch yourself backwards you need 3 snatchblocks and multiple ropes/chains IF there are trees & rocks in the right places to pull yourself out. With a come along you can just pull yourself out as your emergency tool
Is this the biggest delta in price yet? Freaking awesome series ❤️❤️
Na think the armor with low at 800 and hi at 4K was
@@Panda42041 that’s not such a big difference iets only 8 times the cost, this is 15 times the cost

@Gray Plays Stop with this shit dude
@Gray Plays get out of here
Next series of HiLow,switch Nolan n Aaron for Hi-team while James n Zach Low-team. Spice it up a little bit 😎
Props to whoever etched “BALLS” into the high truck bumper
The farm jack you had plus some tow chain is actually a much stronger piece of pulling equipment than the come-along you bought, but only good for about 4 feet until you have to adjust the setup.
You could’ve used that farm jack as a come along with the straps given to you
I feel like it's important to note that how much more versatile the come-along is.
It's main advantage I think is that you can attach it to any point on your truck. Like, maybe you have to back out from somewhere, with a front mounted winch is much more difficult to do.
Sheep shank and they would’ve saved time on the come along. 🤦♂️ car guys don’t know knots?
Also, great for pulling bumpers and fenders back out when damaged on real trails.
Itd be awesome if the bois took a little overlanding trip on these Yodas when they're all done
I just hate how much they bash on the budget build
I’d like to se the series expand with a HI, lo and mid
I’d totally watch MTV’s Unstuck.
same
Jup but alas it is the other lady channel now haha.
Had no idea you watched these guys, big fan David !
matts offroad recovery should scratch your itch
watch Matt's off-road recovery then!!! I just discover this channel and it's great!
Just wondering why gays didn't use synthetic rope winch, which didn't accumulate energy as much as steel one and therefore much much safer ಠಿ_ಠ
@@figarybka1393 they probably didn't think about it or didn't want to do the rope conversion, that specific one comes with cable on it.
A lot of people still prefer Cable over rope though. It's always way cheaper, it last longer and it's more damage resistant. Rope definitely has some pros though, it's safer like you said, easier to work with and it's a lot lighter, like a hundred lbs lighter of some winches.
@@figarybka1393 Read your comment again lol
Donut: you can take these trucks anywhere other then space.

You guys can totally find the “best bang for your buck” items for low truck
I think it would be more realistic and relatable
No one out here is just buying the CHEAPEST everything to mod their vehicle
You must not be familiar with modern "enthusiasts " there are some out there that literally want all the fun and parts but spent the absolute minimum possible.
@@MystMotorsports and you care to cater to them?

That's literally the point of the show. To buy the cheap option and see if it's worth it. There have been plenty of episodes where it wasn't worth it.

Used my winch once, recovery strap numerous times in 7 years of Jeep ownership. But it did look cool.
Also, a trail jack can function as a come along.

Best. Ad. Ever. I actually watched the whole initial ad. Well done.
6:34 my face every time I work on my truck when 'It's only 2 bolts' turns into a 5 hour affair.
So many “give it the Beans” or “give a little bit of the beans” moments, especially right after a “give it the beans” promotion plug. Besides that’s perfect as always!
They need to give Nolan the Hi car next season. He always gets the shitty stuff😂
The winch is great if you have the truck it’s mounted on.
The come along is portable for different vehicles or different situations, including those not involving vehicles.
I’m gonna guess the ComeAlong is actually the better value
No shit
Depends. If you need it every day, no. If you use it once a year then fuck ya.
Heart-Under-Blade. It really depends on the trail your on with its difficulty. Where i live, its a necissity to have a winch because the average trail requires a winch on standby.
@Max Power damn, you ain’t wrong tho
@@nimbleryan735 if you can’t avoid situations where you’d constantly need a winch you should probably just not drive that trail until you have a more capable vehicle. Tires, lockers, traction boards, and just picking a better line are gonna get you more miles than a winch.
Not that winches aren’t convenient, but that’s it, unless you’re constantly having to drive Alaskan logging roads in spring they’re more a convenience than a necessity.
GIVE IT THE BEAAANSSSS
also hi truck looks way more cooler than before
I think they need to switch who gets high and low parts. less experience with high parts? does that help? and can a more experienced team do more with cheaper parts?
13:04 Every time someone says snatch block all I can hear is Destin from SmarterEveryDay yelling "SNATCH BLOCK!"
Low team, you can also use your Hi-Lift Jack as a come-along. I can't explain it in the comments but there are tons of videos about it. Also, be super careful with that thing it is incredibly dangerous. Awesome season!!!!
