Just applied here in Virginia taking my written test in a couple days watching these to motivate me more and learning more about the fire service because no one I know is in it also going to plenty of ride alongs just wanted to say thank you for posting this you are really helping me out

Do you have any advice for me in the best approach to apply in Virginia? eg. is it better to be a volunteer, do ride alongs like you did, just swing by a fire station and ask questions etc. Moving there in couple of months. @@merlinopaneevino hey it depends on who you talk to but I decided to volunteer first just had my first shift last week in my case I volunteered first rather than going to a full time FD to get the experience and get a feel for everything growing up I didn’t know any firefighters or anyone in the fire service at all obviously you can go to a full time FD if you want but that is what worked best for me depending on where you want to move I’d recommend researching Fire department paid and volunteer and know your options also get in shape now if you’re not already especially before you start your fire academy definitely go on ride alongs they helped me so much i went on as many as I could and learned a few things I won’t ever forget when you’re on your ride alongs don’t be afraid to ask questions also TH-cam a channel called FIREFIGHTNOW I watched a ton of his videos and it help me tremendously

I always thought that some departments don’t necessarily like it when civilians walk in to ask questions etc. but then again how else (besides internet) is one supposed to get information ^^. Not criticizing but we were taught to attach to the FDC on the left side first then the right because on some older structures if the right side is charged the left side may not be able to open because of the way the clapper valves were made in those buildings . Just asking to see if this is common knowledge or what...
I'm preparing to apply to UFA this summer so I watch these videos to motivate me while I'm on the stairclimber getting in shape!
