  • Airport security rules can make packing your toiletries challenging - especially when it comes to liquids. Today I'll show you how to efficiently pack toiletries, makeup, and meds when traveling only with carry-on luggage.
Here are my top tips to pack a TSA-approved toiletry bag.
All liquids must be placed in a 3 oz (50ml) or less sized container.
All liquids need to be packed in a clear quart-sized bag.
All liquid medication or makeup must also be placed in that clear bag.
The TSA-approved toiletry bag must then be taken out of the bag when passing airport security.
All other toiletries, makeup or medication that is not a gel or a liquid can be placed in the carry-on with no problem.
Here is a list of the toiletries listed in the video (with paid links from Amazon):

missmayflower Agreed! I watch a lot of packing videos, and you’re the first person i’ve seen who puts the correct things in the quart-sized liquids bag. Most people don’t put makeup products in there; and I’m not sure how people get away with this.

Thank you sooooooo much for this detailed video! I could not find any video's on TH-cam to help me with packing the 2nd, 3rd or 4th bag for air travel that you showed. Everyone I came across skipped those bags for carry-on and only talked about the first bag with liquids. I had become extremely frustrated because the last thing I need is to get stopped by TSA and have my Luggage searched. TSA website didn't help with that either. Again, thank you so much, I honestly could not have finished packing had I not found your channel! I can finish packing and start relaxing before my trip!!!

Beware that amazon has a lot of these bags branded as being TSA approved and quart sized but they are actually larger. You might be let through with it, but they can stop you and make you put your liquids into a quart sized ziploc. Read the dimensions of the bag and calculate it’s volume. 1 quart is 57.75 cubic inches

Great video to show what different size liquids can fit! I also keep my official Non-Liquid Toiletry Companion Bag near my ziploc. My understanding is liquid or gel medications are not limited to the 311 bag but have to be removed and placed in the tray. I would imagine prescriptions like insulin will be no problem, but over-the-counter hydrocortisone might depend on the officer.

    • @AlexgoesCoconuts
      @AlexgoesCoconuts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yes, that is correct. They are not limited to the 3-1-1 bag but it just makes it more convenient when pulling out the bag for security. Also if it is a prescription medication in liquid form larger than 3 oz, it does not have to fit in the 3-1-1 bag, but will have to be taken out when passing security and put in the bin. Some security officers may even ask for documentation depending on the medication. The more well-known meds like insulin and Epipens will not be a problem.

    LUGGAGE TIPS 1, 2, 3
Tie two or three colored ribbons around the handle to your luggage to warn others that this is not their luggage. People grab luggage at the turnstile and take it home before you ever see it.
Anywhere you put your bag, it could be grabbed in error. Example: overhead compartment, unloaded from the bus, at the hotel lobby, at the airport turnstile...
These ribbons make your luggage different and EASY TO SPOT when the piece is surrounded by 35 other cases unloaded from the bus.
Use 1” wide ribbons 14” long and not longer. Cut the ends at 45 degrees.
Scissor cut trim the ribbons to cascading different lengths after they are tied. Put a drop of Super Glue at the end.
If each ribbon is slightly a different length by 1/4” the color layers will all show up no matter how they drape.
Tie the 3 ribbons as a sandwich, as if they were one ribbon. Use a man’s tie, a half Windsor knot for the best look. After it is tied on, the total length of the ribbons will be about 5 inches from the handle. This is too short to catch on anything.
You can see this ribbon from 40 feet away. Perhaps tie TWO handles or RINGS top and side of the case. This way, it won’t slide around. This knot does not loosen.
Put your phone number on one ribbon using a permanent Sharpie.
    Example: “Owner 454-333-7878”
Choose one ribbon with an unusual pattern or fabric to really make it unique.
Stand by the output port of the turnstile to reduce the chance of someone else grabbing your piece.
Tie your skiies, duffel bag, backpack and what ever else with matching ribbons-even your computer case.
If you are a Travel Agent, you could hot gold stamp one ribbon with your name and phone number. Send them a set of ribbons, red and blue and BLACK to your customer as a gift. Record this gift in your database so you don’t duplicate yourself.
Buy a gold hot embossing machine. Gold emboss your business name on the BLACK ribbon. Put the customer’s name on it if possible.
    Pleasant color combinations:
    Red and blue
    Chartreuse and purple
    Orange and light blue
    Orange and yellow
    Gray and pink
    Green and yellow
    Red and Green
    Red and Gold
    Light blue and light green
The third ribbon could be white, gray, black, tan
Tip #2 Take a cell phone picture of the ribbon tied on. Then another picture of the full luggage piece. You now have a way to communicate “what it looks like” if someone is tasked with searching for it. Take this picture outside in direct sun.
Tip #3 Place a strip of colored duct tape on the inside lining to your case. Put your name and phone number on this tape. If all identity is stripped from your case, you have this to show. If someone steals it and rips off identity tags, you can show the police officer the inside tape...

Thanks for sharing. Amazed to see how your skincare routine is so lean.. no cleanser, no toner, no serum. I usually pack the whole suite of skincare along during travel, as i didn't want my skin to 'suffer'. Problem for me is estimating the quantity to bring for a 2 weeks trip. Any tips?

    • @AlexgoesCoconuts
      @AlexgoesCoconuts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi Duki! You can put most of all your skincare products in pill sized containers or in a couple of contact lens cases. Quite a lot of products fits into those containers and can easily carry two-weeks worth of products. When I pack for two weeks in my carry-on I usually end up putting all my liquids into those containers to save on space.
As for my skincare routine, when I travel, I keep it to a minimum. I use Marcelle Face wipes to remove dirt and makeup and bring face cream to hydrate my skin. The rest of my usual skincare products stay at home. I found that I can survive a week or two just with basic water and soap but that's just me. If you want to bring more, just reduce the size of the containers. Hope that helps. Have a wonderful trip! Thanks for watching.

Safety razors are not permitted in your carry-on luggage because the razor blades are so easy to remove. They’re fine to pack in your carry-on without the blade. The same applies for straight razors. LUGGAGE TIPS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15
Tie three or four colored ribbons around the handle to your luggage to warn others that this is NOT THEIR luggage. People grab luggage at the turnstile and take it home before you ever see it. th-cam.com/video/q-gLsegazCs/w-d-xo.html
Anywhere you put your bag, it could be grabbed in error. Example: overhead compartment, unloaded from the bus, at the hotel lobby, at the airport turnstile...
    th-cam.com/video/4NfX2W4DN7E/w-d-xo.html
These ribbons make your luggage different and EASY TO SPOT when the piece is surrounded by 35 other cases unloaded from the bus. Using 4 ribbons make it immediately different than other cases with 1 ribbon.
Use 1” wide ribbons 14” long and not longer. Cut the ends at 45 degrees.
Tie to the base of the handle, tie to the metal buckle. Thus, it will not slip along the handle.
Tie the ribbons as a sandwich, as if they were one ribbon. Use a man’s tie, a half Windsor knot for the best look. After it is tied on, the total length of the ribbons will be about 5 inches from the handle. This is too short to catch on anything such as rollers.
Scissor cut trim the ribbons to cascading different lengths after they are tied. Put a drop of Super Glue at the end.
If each ribbon is slightly a different length by 1/4” the color layers will all show up no matter how they drape.
You can see these ribbons from 40 feet away.
Perhaps tie TWO handles or RINGS top and side of the case.
Tie using a HALF WINDSOR KNOT to the metal buckle ring of the handle.
    Learn Half Windsor knot tying:
It is the 2nd example in this video
    th-cam.com/video/X0yh5rKB9lE/w-d-xo.html
    This knot does not loosen.
Put your phone number on one ribbon using a fine point permanent Sharpie.
    Example: “Owner 454-333-7878”
    No personal name necessary.
No address necessary on the ribbon.
Choose one ribbon with an unusual pattern or fabric to really make it unique. The 4th ribbon could be black color.
    Red, white and blue
    Chartreuse and purple and orange
    Orange and light blue
    Orange and yellow
    Gray and pink
    Green and yellow
    Red and Green
    Red and Gold
Light blue and light green and white
The 4th ribbon could be white, gray, black, tan
    Tip #2 PICTURE RECORD
Take a cell phone picture of the ribbon tied on. Then another picture of the full luggage piece. Take a picture of the interior. You now have a way to communicate “what it looks like” if someone is tasked with searching for it.
You can show this picture to the searcher or attach a picture to your report for lost luggage.
Take this picture outside in direct sun not under neon lights.
    Tip #3 INSIDE IDENTITY
Place a strip of colored duct tape on the inside lining to your case. Put TWO pieces in DIFFERENT places such as INSIDE a pocket to the case. If you dare, put your phone number DIRECTLY ON THE FABRIC Liner of the case WITHOUT USING TAPE. Or, put your name and phone number on this tape. If all identity is stripped from your case, you have this to show. If someone steals it and rips off identity tags, you can show the police officer the inside tape...
To be sneaky about the tape, put your phone number on the STICKY side of the tape. Nothing is on the surface side of this tape.
    Tip #4 HIDDEN IDENTITY
Put your phone number on a 2” x 1/2” piece of fabric or plastic sheet. Use colored Duct tape, such as black or red or neon, to tape this message to the top side of the handle. This message is under the tape hidden from view. The lettering does not touch the sticky part. Wrap it 2-3 times. Also include Tips 1,2,3 above. If you need to prove identity of the case, just unwrap it and show.
    Tip #5 ADDING UNIQUENESS
    Use 4 ribbons
    Add 1 designer ribbon
    colored duct taped handle
Stencil SPRAY PAINT a 2” or smaller stencil letter or number or word or your initials to the suit case exterior surface in addition to using all the other ideas here. Stencil spray the BOTTOM OF THE CASE as well.
Stencil spray paint a letter to the TOP ribbon.
Use ribbons that are wider or more narrow than 1”.
Put a travel sticker on the case.
    Tip #6 WEIGH YOUR OWN
Scales accuracy varies at different airports. If you are even 1 pound over, you pay. So, regulate yourself. Found on Ebay, buy a
    HAND HELD DIGITAL SCALE
    It is less than $15.
    Tip #7 GPS TRACKING DEVICE
Duct tape to an inside pocket a GSM GPS Tracking device. Find them on Ebay. Your iphone can tell you where your luggage is.
Is it in another city? th-cam.com/video/qJkUSNIBsP0/w-d-xo.html
    HomingPIN tracker th-cam.com/video/V96ADrVzhys/w-d-xo.html
    Gego Tracker th-cam.com/video/EI0ARnEqq-w/w-d-xo.html
    Worldwide Tracker ...GSM, Wifi, Bluetooth
    USB rechargeable
Tip #8 OLD TAGS, YOUR ITINERARY
Remove old trip tags before you arrive at the airport. Remove confusion.
Put a copy of your trip itinerary in an outside pocket so the agent can redirect the bag.
Ask the travel agent to send you copies.
Photograph all travel documents using your cell phone.
    Tip #9 FLIGHT SAFETY
Put laptops, cameras and jewelry in your CARRY-ON. th-cam.com/video/fQLIwVXa3oU/w-d-xo.html
Tip #10 LET LUGGAGE FOLLOW YOU
    Choose non stop flights.
Choose connecting flights of at least 90 minutes so luggage has time to be transferred to the next plane.
Compare white luggage destination tag city code to your itinerary for accuracy.
Tip #11 TAKE SCREEN SHOTS OF THESE TIPS
Then share them with your friends. Include the Tube Video seen here also.
    Tip #12 PHOTOGRAPH THIS
    Your travel plan
    Vaccine Passport
    Hotel confirmations handwritten by you.
Your luggage, inside and out. Include unusual words spray paint stenciled on luggage by you. Show a close up of ribbon colors.
Your destination luggage tag, bar code tag
    Receipts for payment of trip.
If you lose paper versions, you have a backup.
Passcode lock your cell phone in case it is lost.
    Tip #13 LUGGAGE DESTINATION TAG
Check the accuracy of the white luggage tag code against your itinerary. You may be sending your luggage to the wrong city.

Tip # 14 AVOID these in CHECKED baggage
    th-cam.com/video/oPPQzu84ahc/w-d-xo.html

I am confused about the 3-1-1 rule. You show 2 qt size bags. I thought the limit was one.

It is one quart size bag for all liquids. The other quart sized bag in my video is for my medication which does not count. It is excluded from the 3-1-1 liquid rule. The other toiletry bag is used for my dry good. All can go into the carry-on except the quart sized liquid bag which has to be pulled out when passing airport security. Hope that helps clarify it for you.

Do you have to keep your medications pulled out going through security?

It depends where you are traveling to. Always check the regulation of the countries you are flying in. Most places don't require you to pull out your meds but If you have any liquid medication, I would keep it out when passing security so that they won't need to search your bags. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
