Kinda like how they don't review Gillette Venus razors because they are aimed at women and all of them are men cause they only employ women in historically "female orientated" jobs and pretend that isn't blatant sexism lol.
Honestly, shortcomings aside, I genuinely think it's a really sick throwback to the 6th gen & PS1 before it. I think it would be really cool to see this niche actually come back, and as the technology for folding displays continues to mature, I can see future versions of these peripherals with significantly larger screens relative to the smaller footprint.
Honestly, despite it's flaws (and me being a PC gamer through and through), I feel like this has a lot of potential and that they get to make a second version with some suggested improvements. Maybe it's possible to share / pass through some of the Xbox Series S's power so they can have more power to the screen and speakers. On top of that improve the build quality, on-screen menu, and maybe release 3D print files of the feet?
they just need to use dedicated PSU. Using power from unit is nice but it's not like xbox itself running from a battery and you need to avoid cables at all cost. Obviously this force them into compromises one can hardly accept at price they ask for the screen.
It'd be interesting if this prompts Microsoft to make an official version or even just open up settings so you can play with how power is sent (this isn't the only portable screen you can give power to). I still say Microsoft should make their own version of the Steam Deck. Maybe if game pass goes to steam and does well that could pave the way. The Series S proves they can provide beastly power to a small form factor and they've had the best fans since the One X. Plus with Game Pass and Cloud Gaming (not just streaming, but introducing a larger program that incorporates Microsoft Flight Simulator's strategy which is to download some data and pull the rest from the cloud during play to create the beat experience) and Remote Play they're in the best position to sell portable console gaming (of course they'd need to be the first to work with cellular companies to make a 5G enabled device).
@@gorjy9610 They don't even need that. Just add a male connector that plugs into the xbox, then a female connector for the xbox'x power supply to plug into, and split the power off to a simple voltage converter to power the display. You can get a brand new laptop for the price they're asking for this thing, so there's no way they can't fit like $1 worth of extra parts into the budget.
@@pearce05 it's little more than $1 when you make product for western market but I agree that they have enough in their budget for it. But I don't believe that any company would go with solution that involve end user tinkering around high voltage connection. Even if that mean on plug more wasted it would give them security and ability to keep same form factor (avoiding dealing with additional heat etc). Most crowd founded items never arrive to customers so I guess fact that they deliver anything is good but this also prove rule n02; if you get it in the end it will be constructed like "as seen on TV" product.
@@gorjy9610 two power connectors and a simple voltage converter are indeed less than $1 when bought in bulk, and there's plenty of room for those in the current form factor of this thing. I don't know what you're talking about as far as users tinkering with high voltage? All they have to do is plug it in like they normally would.
I've got one. I really love it. It's for travelling and it has a nice case and it's easier than a seperate screen. The Series S is the only console currently small enough outside a switch, that you can do this.
That Pulseway advertisement with Linus was so cool. It's not often I see an ad on TH-cam where I actually watch the whole thing just to see how it ends. Great job guys !!
honestly after watching Riley for as long as i have i think he would be one of the best actors in the world if he decides to go that route. The quality of acting, accents, facial expressions its actualy top notch mate
oooh...THIS is how you do speaker comparisons. CrabRave never did it quite right for me, but with the dialogue I can really tell and especially adding in speakers I know IRL. More of this please.
Nice Video. I want to annotate that I noticed a weird "metallic" or hall sound/effect while Riley was speaking. Sounded like something is or was interfering with your audio. For example at 1:38 onwards, when Riley is sitting at the table.
I like the throwback. The PSOne had an official first-party screen attachment, the Gamecube (and probably others) had third-party screens. Maybe not that useful for general day-to-day use, but if you were going somewhere for a day or a couple of days and didn't know if you'd have access to a TV, you could just bring the power cable and be all set. Definitely a niche product, but I like that it exists.
My biggest disappointment about the screen attachment is the fact that the ethernet port is covered up (something Riley briefly mentioned). That aside, it could be useful for fighting game tournaments since the input latency is pretty good (especially once more current-gen only fighting games start coming out). Also, I see Nicole dyed her hair. It’s nice to see her show up in more videos since her Intel Extreme Tech Upgrade.
1st of all, thx a lot for the great content you guys and girls put out and i personaly love Riley presenting, thought I would point a slight minus on some videos... you might have a sound issue with your sets, and sometime like this video, i cannot unhear it once my ear did catch it. I would guess some resonating frequencies in the spaces you record... but i might be wrong on the exact issue... maybe a quick equalizer on the mic reducing the really bothering frequencies could help in post ? or an investement in acoustics solutions... anyway, always a pleasure to watch 😁
"the volume is not evenly stepped" From the way you described it the problem is that it IS evenly stepped, if each step in volume is even then increasing from 1 to 2 is doubling the volume but increasing from 99 to 100 is roughly 1%. What you actually want is the exact opposite and for it to scale as the volume increases, I'm not saying what you want isn't the better way of handling it but it feels like you used the wrong words to describe it (unless 'evenly stepped volume' is a term in the industry then you can just ignore this comment).
100% they are using the stock OSD that comes with the EDP converter, all the firmware they use is a bit rubbish same goes for the integrated amplifiers, probably why it sounds like junk. most of the converters are based on the RTD2xx chipset which has some customization but I don't think any for the volume stepping using the windows toolkit
I've used something similar in the past for my Xbox One and 360 before that when I was in the military. There are quite a few times where you end up somewhere with no TV, or a lot of other things. Having one of these certainly is better than nothing, but there are A LOT of better options out there than this one.
True, those portable displays are larger, sleeker, have better performance, and better build quality, all while being cheaper. It's crazy how much they're asking for something that only works with a series S! A portable display on the other hand can at least be repurposed to another console or something.
@@leonro This. I was looking for a portable second screen for my laptop when I was writing my grad thesis and was surprised by both the build quality and the cheapness. A 15" screen is like $150 or less from most manufacturers. Sure, it isn't as sleek an option as this, but it is also +/- $100 cheaper, bigger, and has things like a headphone jack.
i think it has potential, its still in its infant phases and will definitely become an option to ship the console with if people start buying it more and more just like with the xbox kinect
While I appreciate the negatives being pointed out, I do think the positives outweigh them easily. Using a USB to power everything is pretty slick. It's neat and tidy and worth losing a couple of ports while in use. And when you are done using it portably, remove the xscreen and hook it back to the TV. Also why would you leave the xscreen on and hook it up to the TV? That's not what it's for... Build quality could be better but I don't abuse my tech
I wholly disagree. It would be trivial to have a passthrough for the other ports and at $250 they have the budget. You would leave it on so you could easily take it with you. If you're only using it on the go it's not an issue but if you're constantly swapping between TV and xscreen it's tedious to have to disconnect such a flimsy unit that's liable to break in the process.
You leave the screen on and hook it up to a tv because sometimes you're on the go, and other times you're at home. It would be more convenient if you didnt need to constantly unplug and replug everything. Also, its *really* expensive for what it is, which to me is the bigger issue, since I dont think itd be possible to keep it folded while in use on a tv because of heat issues
As far as the last point, you'd want a device like this to be "plug and play". Actually that's what the series S is right now. Its extremely easy to hook up and take down and light/small enough that it fits in your hand or any regular sized bag (and you literally only need 2 cords). Attaching and detaching an additional device EVERY time you want to go portable hurts the intent of that form factor. Think of the switch where you just pick it up off the dock and that's it (after initial setup). The console clearly wasn't built with a screen in mind and this is certainly a fine portable hack, but its a valid concern especially when you're telling someone to buy a product over $100.
@@vullord666 if adding the clips is too much of a hassle then it's definitely not geared toward certain people. Personally, it won't bother me at all but that's just me.
@@ryansamarakoon8268 Perceived volume is in decibels which is a logarithmic scale. Idk if it should be scaled by a power of e. I would think it better to be by power 10.

It's a good idea, but I have been using USB Monitor's for a VERY long time. The one I am using to type this right now is a 1080p Asus USB monitor that is around 6 years old and has been running like a champ. Plug it into your USB port, ANY USB PORT, and your good to go. USB Monitors are cheap, reliable, low power, UP TO 4k (a bit more expensive and higher USB requirements), SUPER Thin, easy controls, pretty durable (they come with a decent case) and usually come with a build in stand. For literally HALF the money, you can get a VERY GOOD 1080p portable monitor AND you could add in a decent portable "solar" generator for TRULY "cordless" gaming with the Xbox series S. Yep, I call it "Gamping" a gamers camping vacation. You can also use this monitor with your phone or tablet to watch TV/Netflix etc while your not gaming (like that's a thing). Run straight from your "generator" and either use Solar Panels or your Car to charge it back up. There a lots of configurations to make the Xbox Series S "portable". If they could bet this below $100, THEN I might think about it.
I hope there aren't any unforeseen consequences at lambda labs. What's the worst that could happen? Also I do not understand what this achieves, sure this eliminates the requirement for an external screen, but this doesn't add a battery, so you're still going to have to be close to a power source. Making its portability argument, flimsy at best. It's not portable if you need to be close to a charging point to use it.
I have an Xbox one which I bought in Hong Kong, when I moved from HK to the US I had to get a step up converter to use it as the US plugs use 110v while the HK Xbox was designed for 220v. When my parents and I went for a trip somewhere I decided to bring my Xbox and had to bring the converter, the cables and my controller+it’s case which took up half the suitcase(the hotel we went to had a TV). I could see the usefulness in this as I would be able to game without having to lug a shit ton of stuff and worry about it breaking but at the same time it’s not really at the level of portable gaming a switch has as it doesn’t run on batteries or seem good for local multiplayer as that would be the only reason I could see bringing my console with me anywhere
I took a trip cross country, spent two weeks with family, series s, 14” portable monitor. It all fit in the carry on. Done. Bought the monitor on sale. So, yeah… do that.
For $250 they could afford to make it out of aluminum or at the very least have aluminum inserts along the plastic frame to help add stability and resistance
This idea is perfect for those of us in the military who get stuck loving in small rooms or in a bunk bed barracks. When I was stationed overseas I had roughly 15sqft of living space.
As a semi-pro athlete, I can see a very obvious use case for this. We don't always get the best hotels, and although TVs are usually included in the rooms the io is not alway accessible, so being able to flip open an xbox for some healthy competition in between training sessions/games would be great.
I wonder why they opted for power from a usb port instead of have a power come from the main power cable. what I mean is that they could have built a plug into the back to go into the console and the you plug the power cable into the screen and have power go from there into both the screen and console, that way they could get over the usb power limitation. and yes, I know the would need to add a small psu to the screen, but those don't need to be big to power 1 monitor
@@NigelMelanisticSmith Ney not really, the only different between usb type C cables is durability and build quality. The tougher cables cost up to $20 for 6 feet.
I feel like manufacturers should send you their series 0 prototypes so you can make a video and give feedback as well as the community. When the final product is ready another video. No harm done whatsoever from the first vid.
Is Riley wearing an actual functional headset at the start or is he just wearing it without the cable connected? Asking because I'd REALLY love to know if there was some sort of wireless version...but I don't think there is.
I wonder how useful this really is, since you still need to plug the Xbox into power. If you want to bring your console to a friend's house or go on a trip it makes sense, but even then, most people don't go over and have LAN parties anymore and if you bring the console to a hotel, they usually have a TV there already. I definitely like the concept though, if you could get that thing to run from a 12V cigarette lighter this could be a great way for kids to pass the time on long car rides.
You can use the xScreen on a Series S in a car using a cigarette lighter to plug converter Upspec Gaming show this on there Instagram page and maybe it's TH-cam page xScreen is not a perfect product it does have it flaws and this video covered them perfectly but being an owner of one these xScreens I should know 😂 but it sure is an awesome addon for those long plane train and coach journeys for the kids in the car and visiting family and friends its perfect for those scenarios but as a everyday use screen id buy something else
Anyone else besides me loves portable gaming because it enables the laziness to play your games anywhere in your house that's comfortable, and not because you can travel outside with it? My favorite gaming systems have been the GBA, NDS, 3DS, PSP, Switch, my phone, and to the lesser degree, Wii U, because they allowed me to play on the couch and take my unit with me and play in another room without any fuss. The actual idea/concept of making games portable outside the comfort of your home has been one of many inconveniences for me. #1 You risk losing your system to forgetfulness or thievery. #2 You never find yourself in a peaceful moment in public to just enjoy your gaming experience, be it from un-ideal lighting and noise situations making it hard to see your screen or hear your speakers #3 You'll never find another stranger in the wild to play with like Nintendo commercials would have you believe because #4, you'll always be "that guy" playing your system alone in public #5 Drags your pocket down with extra weight and buldge. #6 You won't find the time in public to enjoy your gaming session anyway unless you're on a plane flight or transit where you're stuck in a seat for a good while... Just no matter how I slice it, portable gaming's advantages just becomes incredibly inconvenient because the enjoyment of gaming demands time and comfort both of which becomes hard to come by when you're moving about. When I was a kid it was different because I had excess tone and willing to put up with discomfort for a game, but it's different as an adult; and the only thing I want out of my system is the ability to just change rooms/couches/beds. Or am I the only one that feels that way?
As a 90s child, the mini PS One with the built in screen was the best Christmas present I ever got. It had all the same compromises as this, minus the build quality maybe, and with a screen the fraction of the size. But child me did not care one bit. It meant I could play PlayStation on long car rides, or at home when my parents were using the tv. Agree that this is too expensive but I think it’s great for kids.
Pretty cool, and always out of ordinary displayed in this channel :) On a different note, what do you guys do with all the PCs you build? Is there any way I can get one of those?
Regarding the "Car Inverter" be careful what you plug into that 12v socket. Generally most cars will have 10amp or 15amp fuse which means that socket can only output up to 120 or 135 watts. If the device starts sucking more then that it will blow the fuse.
They could have gone for power passthrough. How older TFT LCD clamshell attachments work. But I think you are better off getting a huion tablet. Still 1080p but all usb powered and sturdy. If you want a speaker just use a JBL go. This is the best generic solution I use for drawing on PC, watching firestick TV on the go or when visiting family, and temp setups for my Xbox one, PC, Playstation 3-5 at LANs. It all runs from a single USB/USB-C port. And additional a HDMI connector (for a firestick get a 5 dollar female to female connector)
On one hand, the idea of taking your full system and all your games to an area that could potentially have no internet is interesting. On the other, the price is a bit too high to justify the build quality, and xCloud also exists for the times in which you *are* connected to the internet

The intro was really good, loved it
I've got one. I really love it. It's for travelling and it has a nice case and it's easier than a seperate screen. The Series S is the only console currently small enough outside a switch, that you can do this.
steam deck perhaps?
@@xxcabalxx2369 steam deck doesnt play most games like destiny, overwatch, diablo 4 etc. also 1 hr battery
I had one of these for the Wii at one point. I remember the PSOne one.
The PSOne screen was great and cute
God I love Riley's energy. So fun to watch! Great video
That Pulseway advertisement with Linus was so cool. It's not often I see an ad on TH-cam where I actually watch the whole thing just to see how it ends. Great job guys !!
So much alliteration in this video, good job Adam & Riley :D
3:22 Gotta say, that post-calibration result was phenomenal.
I was about to give them a pass until I heard the price, $250 for a cheap laptop screen in a plastic shell. Should cost $99 at *MOST,* what a scam.
honestly after watching Riley for as long as i have i think he would be one of the best actors in the world if he decides to go that route. The quality of acting, accents, facial expressions its actualy top notch mate
This would be nice to have for those long camping trips
Riley was so convincing with his sales pitch, I just bought one of these for my Wii. I'm so excited can't wait for the delivery!!!!
i would prefer if you guys tested USB C cables included with phones, as those are the ones most people have
oooh...THIS is how you do speaker comparisons. CrabRave never did it quite right for me, but with the dialogue I can really tell and especially adding in speakers I know IRL. More of this please.
Love that log can make like a whole cinematic universe with the amount of staff they have
A company isn’t a cinematic universe
I'm looking forward to the usb-c cable testing episode ! please include DisplayPort through usb-c as well
Third party companies have started to put out better accessories than OEMs.
been like this forever
It doesn't make any sense for an OEM to produce such a niche product.
I'm curious with how you got to this conclusion after watching this video.
I think almost every PS console had a official one, except for the PS4 who got an Third party one, the Xbox 360 comes to mind also but I'm not sure.
4:27 That noise... I LOVE IT!
Reminds me of when we had a screen on the PS2 when my family would go on "family vacations" back in the early 2000's.
The Switch sound at 4:27 was perfect
My biggest disappointment about the screen attachment is the fact that the ethernet port is covered up (something Riley briefly mentioned). That aside, it could be useful for fighting game tournaments since the input latency is pretty good (especially once more current-gen only fighting games start coming out).
Also, I see Nicole dyed her hair. It’s nice to see her show up in more videos since her Intel Extreme Tech Upgrade.
dude wtf the video has been out for less than its duration, at least try to watch it in its entirety before commenting lol
@@nocturn9x I’m actually aware of this screen attachment thanks to various other videos made about it elsewhere.
Riley your presenting has really improved since your early days at LTT. Really loved this one. Great job!
"the volume is not evenly stepped"
From the way you described it the problem is that it IS evenly stepped, if each step in volume is even then increasing from 1 to 2 is doubling the volume but increasing from 99 to 100 is roughly 1%. What you actually want is the exact opposite and for it to scale as the volume increases, I'm not saying what you want isn't the better way of handling it but it feels like you used the wrong words to describe it (unless 'evenly stepped volume' is a term in the industry then you can just ignore this comment).
@Super Potato 🍠 you're thinking about it too deep. What's drug are you using.
The subtle snap when Riley says "Switch" is pretty great.
1:09, ending up in a meme 😂😂
I've used something similar in the past for my Xbox One and 360 before that when I was in the military. There are quite a few times where you end up somewhere with no TV, or a lot of other things. Having one of these certainly is better than nothing, but there are A LOT of better options out there than this one.
Haha my squad leader brought one of those screen/Xbox holder cases with him when we deployed and he was always playing nba2k on that thing!
Audio editor: nice touch on the Nintendo Switch sound. Respect

Side note: Is there a dull metallic echo/ring in the audio.. ? Maybe I'm just going crazy.
i think it has potential, its still in its infant phases and will definitely become an option to ship the console with if people start buying it more and more just like with the xbox kinect
You haven't done "linus reading mean comments" in a while, would love to see it again!
Also, its *really* expensive for what it is, which to me is the bigger issue, since I dont think itd be possible to keep it folded while in use on a tv because of heat issues
yea but for $250? It isn't worth it for the price.

@8:05 "if you can stomach the boutique price and poor build quality"
Soooo... basically its a MSI GPU.

Riley:
"But actually, why would you want this?"
Me:
"Cuz I don't have a steam deck."
The volume problem could've been solved with a simple "volume = value^e" in that monitor's firmware.
Curious why to the power of e? Is it because the volume scale is logarithmic?
@@ryansamarakoon8268 Perceived volume is in decibels which is a logarithmic scale. Idk if it should be scaled by a power of e. I would think it better to be by power 10.
The intro is soo good. It reminded me of the Boom Headshot meme and "Counter-Strike - DE dust2 HD" video.
Honestly Riley is such an amazing host. The guy has a incredible presenting skills, energy, communication and energy. He is like a tech industry Ryan Renalds.
I never cared about an xbox but this was actually so cool I'd actually consider one for this use case

Great video LMG. Unfortunately, the audio reflections in this video are super distracting.
Well if you have a propper battery bank you can us it everywhere. But i get your point
This episode is brought to you by Jackery
To me, the only case of use would be using it at school, Airport, and in ur car if u go camping/something of that nature.

We need an LTT version of The Office!
The B-roll is great in this video. Really compliments Riley's delivery.
I love these story bits that are being added to the start of the video
5:23 the way you made this scene reminds me of the office
This takes me way back! The 6-inch clip on screen for my first gen Xbox got me through a lot of road-trips…
Had one of those, thought it was the coolest thing ever
The writing in this episode is simply awesome
As a semi-pro athlete, I can see a very obvious use case for this. We don't always get the best hotels, and although TVs are usually included in the rooms the io is not alway accessible, so being able to flip open an xbox for some healthy competition in between training sessions/games would be great.
This the office style filming is excellent. Please do more.
Is that a Blindspot mirror at 5:28?? Why would James need that? Hahaha
Those skits in between, top notch
loving the lil skits during the overview! keep it up ; w; big funnie
This was a very entertaining video and well put together got especially excited when he said they were testing USB C cables also
Agreed. The gulf between cheap and expensive USBC cables is crazy, not to mention things like Thunderbolt
I hope you guys test a bigger sample size with USB-C cables. Since every single connector is handmade sample variance might be drastically higher.
#2 You never find yourself in a peaceful moment in public to just enjoy your gaming experience, be it from un-ideal lighting and noise situations making it hard to see your screen or hear your speakers
#3 You'll never find another stranger in the wild to play with like Nintendo commercials would have you believe because #4, you'll always be "that guy" playing your system alone in public
#5 Drags your pocket down with extra weight and buldge.
Those scenes with "real people" at the park or in the office with other LTT staff are a nice touch !
Pretty cool, and always out of ordinary displayed in this channel :)
On a different note, what do you guys do with all the PCs you build? Is there any way I can get one of those?
Regarding the "Car Inverter" be careful what you plug into that 12v socket. Generally most cars will have 10amp or 15amp fuse which means that socket can only output up to 120 or 135 watts. If the device starts sucking more then that it will blow the fuse.
I hate the way you guys bring on the idea of an ad and the worst part is you're good at it
Lol at the Nintendo switch snap sound 4:26
Riley’s acting is on another level.
The intro was great
4:27 that switch snap though
They could have gone for power passthrough. How older TFT LCD clamshell attachments work. But I think you are better off getting a huion tablet. Still 1080p but all usb powered and sturdy. If you want a speaker just use a JBL go. This is the best generic solution I use for drawing on PC, watching firestick TV on the go or when visiting family, and temp setups for my Xbox one, PC, Playstation 3-5 at LANs.
It all runs from a single USB/USB-C port. And additional a HDMI connector (for a firestick get a 5 dollar female to female connector)
I was really happy to see ori being played on that thing, That game deserves more praise
I lost it when he pressed the buttons from outside
Excellent concept however!
On one hand, the idea of taking your full system and all your games to an area that could potentially have no internet is interesting.
On the other, the price is a bit too high to justify the build quality, and xCloud also exists for the times in which you *are* connected to the internet
