CORRECTION: You cannot ASH Sacred Fire Garunix apparently, destruction from the deck does not encompass sending to GY, (this is different from use as Fusion Material which in DOES count towards it due to the mechanics of Fusion SUmmoning)
Destruction doesn't count as that. So save it for the Fire King Island / Ponix.

Weird, this was ruled differently at the Las Vegas Regional I went to on 12/17 and even after an appeal it was ruled that I was allowed to Ash the destroy from deck effect of Garunix.

Fun Fact: Labrynth will difficult a hard time against the Fire King deck due to them always triggering off Destruction effect, so Lovely Labrynth + Labrynth Labyrinth becomes a bad play against them, unless they open up non-destruction removal cards.
Lovely and Lab Lab are definitely bad in this matchup, so one would need to rely on things like Overroot, Ice Dragon, or Karma Cannon. Maybe Compulse will see play again
you can easly side in sacred phoenix of Nepthys as side deck card against this kind of match-ups
Or you just loop DDG with Lovely and shut down their entire deck (they have to go to GY unlike Unchained twins) instead of IDP-ing 2 monsters at a time, while said Lovely hits Sanctuary and Island.
In Unchained/Arriane builds, you can even use Dweller instead of gambling with Lovely on a random pop turn 1.

Garunix does not include an effect that can be ashed though.

The same goes for Shaddoll fusion, we know Ash blossom stops it even the card technically doesn't say "send from deck to GY".
Destroying from deck is another way to implicitly send from deck to GY.
@davida.m.fonseca1434 Shaddoll Fusion includes an effect that sends from Deck to GY, as using monsters as Fusion Material is considered as sending from 'x' location to the GY (in this case the Deck). You could say that any mechanic that uses monsters for a summon from the deck implies that it's sending them from Deck to GY (for game mechanics).
Destroying a monster from the deck however is not an effect Ash can interact with, even if the end result is that it would be sent to the GY.
There is a database ruling on this but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post links.

No, it will not summon. When a card is moved to a different area, it is considered a different card.

Does Ash Blossom work on the Garunix? I know Ash stops a "send to the graveyard" but Garunix's effect is a destroy. Doesn't say anything about the destroyed card going to grave. Wouldn't that get around the Ash?

Also works. They can't special from GY or use effects in the GY.
Same goes for Abyss Dweller, and even Shifter (because they have to be sent to the GY to activate their effects).
Banishing removal also helps.

Just wanted to point out that you can't ash Sacred Fire King Garunix because you are destroying a card from the deck not sending a card while its technically the same thing it is different so you cant ash the Garunix

if it's fire king avatar Barong is destroyed then sent to the grave after words you can ash it before the affect goes off on ur opponents turn but ur boss monster would still get the attack bost

Think Ghost Ogre is gonna see more play now. People already played it for Centurion, but now you can counter Island too, alongside things like Isolde or My Friend Purely.
The continuous spell protects against destruction.
Ogre is baaaad against this deck
Ogre kinda sucks against Fire Kings, u can't destroy the Island without getting is subbed my Sanctuary and there isnt a lot of space that Ogre can hit.
just stop the grave yard and evenly matched plus dark ruler no more it's not so hard to stop fire kings
Seems like most of the people are scared of a „rogue“ deck. What most people thinks when they saw the deck for first time. Fire king got so much gas! You better be scared of it!
Fire King are rogue-ish now, but not for long... OCG already has it as a top competitor.
Once the new stuff gets added in, you need to learn to stop the new stuff AND the basics.
When the new stuff fails the basics will kick in a sweep the board.
Just played against fire king tri brigade . Really strong. BUT Cards like d-shifter and other graveyard banishing cards counter it thankfully
