  • Airbrushing can be a skill that takes a bit of time to master, and where better to practise using this tool than with a cheap kit with a slightly complicated paint scheme which will challenge your abilities?
    Join me in this video as I build and review the Airfix A01046V FIAT G.50 fighter aircraft plastic model kit in 1/72 scale. Not only is this model a cost-effective way of trying out some airbrushing, it is also one of the Vintage Classics kits that Airfix has reintroduced for a little nostalgia.

    Really enjoyable video. I have "battled" with airbrushing for 2yrs (breaking two airbrushes in the process). After Christmas I purchased the new H&S Ultra airbrush with its beginner friendly features. Not cheap but an absolute game changer. Can't recommend it highly enough.

    An airbrush works wonderfully to prime, unless of course you don't have primer or you have a "rattle can" to use up. I recommend Vallejo primer. I use a little isopropyl alcohol to clean the remnants of paint in the cup- don't want to have chips of old paint mixing with the new paint and gumming up the works... Thanks for the video.

    Got a fondness for this old kit. I made it in the early 70's but my mum put the transfers on! 😊
    My mother paid two shillings for this . 10p in todays money.

    • @ModelMinutes
      @ModelMinutes  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      people always forget about inflation and the purchasing power of money when comparing it to the past. I did some reasearch and whilst a shilling would be the same value as 5 "new pence" - 5p in 1970 is not the same as 5p today.
      5p in 1970 has about the same purcasing power as 70p today, so this kit would have cost about £1.40 which would still make it quite cheap - but then I guess the manufacturing and raw materials (and the scale of manufacture) would have had a hand in keeping prices lower

    • @johnnoble01
      @johnnoble01 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ModelMinutes I'd still buy it and appreciate the effect inflation has. I was just looking at it through rose tinted goggles! 😄 It is what it is.👍

    Hi Matt. WRT airbrush painting, a couple of thoughts:
    a) You didn't mention using airbrush masks, which might make complex patterns a bit easier.
    b) In a previous video you used cutouts to mask for camouflage painting. Could you do something similar here; scan the box art / painting instructions, print and cut out the scan, then cut out the camouflage pattern and tape the scan to the model as a mask?

    • @ModelMinutes
      @ModelMinutes  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Interesting thoughts - I didn't see the point in covering masks in this video, mostly because this focused on free-hand mottling (and the canopy was so small masking it was pointless in my opinion) - it's something I could do in the future though.
      I did actually consider scanning and printing a camo mask for this one, but thought it would push the complexity up and not improve my freehand skills - it would be another technique that could be used and I might look into that in another build

    Nice build. I've picked up the army painter speedpaints too. They definitely take some getting used to, but I am enjoying them for somewhat larger-scale figures than 1/72nd. I think the faux-shading they do may have issues at smaller scales.

    • @ModelMinutes
