"CANNONBALL" - Music by Antonio M. Hart.
I first heard this tune by my sifu, Antonio Hart, in his album "For Cannonball and Woody" when I was in my teens learning to play the saxophone and I wanted to play it several years later (early 2000s) when I became a professional musician and had my own band. I remember writing to him at that time that I wanted to learn to play it, but never really heard back from him. Never did I expect that I would end up studying with him in Queens College in NYC, and it turned out to be one of the most significant periods in my music life. I told him about that email to him many years before I finally met him, and we had a good laugh about it.
I love the melody and groove of the piece, and it's complemented with a fun set of changes to play with. I'm also glad I got to play this song with a set of amazing musicians I love to work with, and have it documented. Hope you enjoy it!
This concert was part of the inaugural performance of my jazz orchestra - The Julian Chan Jazz Orchestra (JCJO), held at the Damansara Performing Arts Centre (DPAC) Theatre Hall. We performed this in conjunction with the Spectrum Music Festival 2018, organised by KL DiverseCity and DPAC. A big thanks to DPAC for supporting me in bringing my jazz orchestra to light for the first time.
