  • Here's the third video for this series of short videos of awesome pop saxophone solo transcriptions, #awesomepopsaxsolos.
Song: One More Night (music by Phil Collins) from his album “No Jacket Required”. Saxophone solo by Don Myrick. The sax sound of the late Don Myrick was a prominent one in the 70s through the 80s, being a member of the horn section The Phoenix Horns Esq, the original horn section for Earth, Wind & Fire. Some of his other memorable works include “After The Love Has Gone”, “Reasons” and even the Grammy winning R&B instrumental, “Runnin’”.
Even though it’s a short solo feature, Myrick’s solo has so much vocabulary and history, and my challenge in learning this solo gem was emulating his sense of time. He plays with a nice balance of being in the pocket and laidback, interspersed with little nuggets of bebop language and the cry of the blues. Everything he played in this song was well-suited to the feeling of the song and complements the musical intention in it.
Definitely one of my favourite. Also worth checking out are the live performances of this song, with solos by Gerald Albright.
    Thanks for watching.
