    Just got one of these to convert a DVD coaxial signal to analog, powering minirig speakers. Sounds brilliant as part of a portable projector set up.

    Interesting, thanks. You can actually get inexpensive silver "Light Dims" for covering the bright indicator led, in addition to the regular dark tinted ones.

      Of all the peak 'first world problems', there is an equally peak 'first world solution'. Amazing.

    Thanks for the clear and concise review. I now have one and it is perfect for me as a gamer/moderate music audiophile. I would like to add a switch so I can easily have passive speakers when using headphones. Any recommendations on a setup for easy switching between outputs?

      Thank you, I appreciate it.
      I think the RCA out around the back of the K5 is on permanently. The mode switching is only for the different inputs.
      So I think you can just hook the K5 up to any speaker amp and you don't even need a switch. Just turn the speaker amp on and off when you need to once it's hooked up.

    Purchased for gaming but I need an adapter to power it because my motherboard don’t support coax cables niceeeeee

      I assume you want to bypass the DAC portion of the K5 Pro?
      Depending on what you want your audio source to be, you could use an HDMI to COAX adapter... but that's already getting weird.
      Any particular reason you don't want to power it with USB and use the DAC?

    do you believe he can play a kz pr2 or a hifiman he 400se well? I have this doubt

    • @GREQReviews
      @GREQReviews  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As I mentioned in the review, I wasn't convinced by it's ability to drive my Hifiman HE-500.
      Generally, I don't think it's quite strong enough for any large planar headphone.
      However, my KZ HBB PR2 is driven VERY well by the K5 Pro.
      I get to a good strong listening level at around 10 o'clock with brickwalled music, and have plenty of headroom left for properly recorded music around 12 o'clock.
      The bass boost with PR2 is quite good too ;)

    Do you think there is a difference in performance when plugged in instead of a USB input?

    • @GREQReviews
      @GREQReviews  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sorry, I don't understand the question.
      The K5 Pro is a USB DAC/amp.

    I bought. Dac fosi audio k5 pro, and the microphone of this hyperx cloud silver hx-hscl-sr headset didn't work... 😔 I don't think it's compatible

      There's actually 3 types of TRRS (tip ring ring sleeve) 3.5mm plugs.
      There's the Camcorder AV type which isn't used for headphones.
      CTIA/Apple
      &
      OMTP/Nokia
      You probably need a CTIA/OMTP adapter - they're very cheap.
      I can't be 100% sure about this, as I do not own any CTIA/OMTP products as far as I know, but it's the likely culprit.

    The most common negative remarks for this unit is the lack of bass. If I adjust it let say to 8 oclock, would the bass be sufficient?

    • @GREQReviews
      @GREQReviews  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Sorry, I don't really understand the problem.
      Since the K5 Pro has a bass tone control, it has potentially more bass output than over 95% of amps/DACs in the world.
      To say that this unit lacks bass doesn't make any sense to me, unless it is regarding the frequency response when tone controls are both in the 'zero' (12 o'clock) position. At this setting, the unit is not neutral - check video at 04:49 for reference.
      The bass and treble are both at 'zero' at 12 o'clock, so if you set the bass tone to 8 o'clock, the bass will be turned down by approximately 8 decibels.
      If you turn the bass up to around 2 or 3 o'clock, the bass will be turned up by around 8-10 decibels.
      I hope this helps.

    Very impressive review, thank you for sharing your opinion, I ended up finding it for 50 dollars and I think it was a good price, I'm new to this area of sound and equipment so it will be my first DAC, I intend to test it with the KZ D- fi tuning, CCA CRA and the HyperX Cloud Alpha, headphones that I don't think are a reference for an audiophile but for me, they supply what I need to listen to music and play games, and I think they will have a significant improvement in the audio output of my motherboard, thank you from Brazil.

    • @GREQReviews
      @GREQReviews  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's a good price.
      I guess turning both the treble and bass down a touch would improve things a lot with the Cloud Alpha, if it's anything like the Cloud II.

      I think it can be considered an evolution but they should be very similar, when I used it I thought the sound was very low, even when using it at maximum volume, I think this was due to my motherboard not providing enough energy lol

    Does this DAC have sufficient power to drive the KZ HBB PR2? I already have one; do you recommend using it?

    • @GREQReviews
      @GREQReviews  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can recommend this pairing since it has enough power to drive it quite well, although you will need to adjust the tone controls a little (1-2 o'clock bass & 11 o'clock treble) to reach approximately the same tone as other neutral amps.
      So it may sound 'bright' or thin at first, but this is not a neutral amp with it's default tone values.

    I'm having issues with my seinheiser game one headphone/mic and discord. My voice input is very low and I have gone through all my windows 11 volume controls and discord, everything is maxed out, mic is close to my mouth but still people can't hear me loud enough. It is very frustrating. Would this K5 pro help improve my voice volume output?

    • @GREQReviews
      @GREQReviews  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Nope.
      All it does is behave like an external sound-card and would receive exactly the same input as your on-board/motherboard mic-input, or a laptop mic input.
      Sounds like you probably have a faulty microphone.

    Would you recommend these for the berenamyic 770 pro 250ohm into a focusrite?

    • @GREQReviews
      @GREQReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not at all.
      And that's nothing to do with the K5's sound quality - it's just that the Fosi K5 Pro doesn't have a line-in input, so it won't be able to receive the line-out signal from the Focusrite.
      I know many people would recommend doing things the other way around and wire the Fosi K5 Pro's headphone out to a Foscusrite line-in, but then you are double-amping the signal which will introduce distortion - that's just not the way to listen to good high quality audio.

      @@GREQReviews thanks for the reply, what would you recommend to power the 770 pros?

    • @GREQReviews
      @GREQReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@michaelgrindy6913 If it's just the 770 pro 250, then pretty much all amps will power it just fine, even the K5 Pro.
      I just don't recommend pairing the K5 Pro with a Focusrite.

    • @iridescentgherkin
      @iridescentgherkin ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelgrindy6913 If your Scarlett is the version with a SPDIF output, it should theoretically work with the Coaxial inputt on the K5 Pro.
      So yes... as long as that works, then the chain you just described should work fine.
      I just don't know for sure if that connection between the Scarlett SPDIF-out and the K5 Coaxial-in will work, since I've never tried that and don't have any equipment with a SPDIF out to test it.
