  • In this video I show you how to replace the delicate diamond tweeter in your Bowers & Wilkins 805, 804, 803, 802, and 800 speaker. I recently purchased a set of B&W 802 Diamonds (D2) and the tweeter arrived damaged. Thankfully the dealer I bought my speakers from is a reputable shop and I had a new tweeter within a few days.

    I followed this video to replace the tweeter on my 805D2. Unlike what’s shown in this video, the wires are not so easy to remove. I even pulled off the L-shaped terminals that were supposed to be part of the tweeter. Later I found out I had to use a small flathead screwdriver to lift up the tab of the longer end of the L-shaped terminals while pulling away the wires. Hope this helps everyone struggling to disconnect the wires from the tweeter.
    Before connecting the wires back, I moved the wires out of the zip tie to allow for more space to work on the connection, and also makes it easier to access the wires in the future.

    Sweet system 😛😍.
    I am going to do this for my 803S. Aluminum was pushed it. I pulled it back out with blue masking tape but I can still see the marks it left.
    Thank you very much. Very helpful.

      Thanks Keven and no problem! The 803S's are still a great speaker. My first big high end set of speakers was a set of Nautilus 803's finished in cherry and I loved them. The nice thing about the 800 series with the aluminum tweeter is if you end up damaging the tweeter, it's still pretty reasonable to replace them. It's only an optical damage. The sound should not be affected, but I would have done the same I think. Make sure you keep the old one just in case :)

    Please tell, I just have new speakers 802D and I’m have no idea what going on!
    The body of the tweeter feels uncertain, when you snap your finger on it you will hear the "jingle" collision
    It is company design or something wrong, Are your speakers the same?

    • @generationbehindhifi
      @generationbehindhifi 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The tweeter grill is magnetic on the D2 series diamonds from Bowers & Wilkins and is easy to remove. Sadly I think the later generation diamond speakers (D3+) require tools to remove the grill. I'm guessing you have a later version diamond? Also, this is Dan. I finally started an audio channel (GenertionBehindHiFi). Hope this helps.

    I once had to DIY-change the mid-range driver of my right M803 S2 speaker which was flipped over by MY CAT! My recommendation from the sole dealer was that you have to change both driver together because they have to be matched otherwise not synchronized.

    • @DIYDanCars
      @DIYDanCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the dealer just wanted to sell you an extra driver. If each driver that came down the assembly line varied widely from their reference specification, then B&W is in real trouble.

    • @DIYDanCars

      Did you unscrew the silver pole piece from the back? Are the wires to the tweeter disconnected? Remember the wires might be zip tied to the housing like they were on mine so you might have to cut the zip ties in order to pull it out.

    Is that a mouse or a cat playing next to those bad boys? Seriously, aren't you concerned one day you may find your cat tear up or scratch the drivers/grills or do you have its nails clipped regularly to avoid such a painful experience?
    By the way, do you happen do know the size of screw driver/Allen wrench/bit type to use to remove the mid range? I have a set of 805D2 whose one of the drivers need replaced. The screws are really tiny. I wanted to make sure I use the right tool to remove them so I don't leave any damage on the head.
