I split my portfolio into 1/3 growth (VFV, ZUQ, XUS etc.) and 2/3 dividends of which most are VDY, XIE etc with a little in covered call ETFs like ENCC, HMAX etc. This way I get the dividends and the growth side makes up for any poor gains on the dividend side. So far it's worked well.
