Appreciate the detailed breakdown! Could you help me with something unrelated: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (mistake turkey blossom warfare blade until bachelor fall squeeze today flee guitar). How can I transfer them to Binance?
Baidu, very interesting.
I got tired of pouring money into Alibaba. ;) I'll put you in the raffle. 👍
How #RRSPs and #taxes work
#RRSP is tax deferred, until you pull the money out
Tax inefficient investments should be held in the RRSP
Hold tax efficient investments in a non-reg account after you ran out of RRSP and TFSA room
An #option is a #contract
If you bought it, you have a right to do something or not do something
If you sold the contract, you have an obligation to do something if the buyer wants you to
These contracts don't involve a lawyer
This is how I use #quicken
It's great for investment tracking
I track my #expenses religiously
The #income #tracking is a bit more spotty ;)
How the #options #expiry and #strikeprice work
#expiry is when the contract is no longer valid
The #strikeprice is important: a stock price above the #call strike price is in the money, and below for a #put
Options are contracts regarding a specific stock
#RRSP planning to lower #fees
Switch to #ETFs
#RRSPs are an account, #ETFs are an #investment
How #call #options work
#Options are contracts that expire
When you sell a #call, you generally want to sell the #stock, or make #cash
I use this to get some #cashflow
How #Puts #options work
I explain the strike price concept
#Puts are basically #insurance on #stock
#puts and #calls are the two options types
Look, your video content is good but the title description is not SEO friendly, the video SEO score is 0 out of 100 and the video is not optimized. There are no tags or keywords in the video, so your videos are not reaching the audience and are not coming to the top of TH-cam and subscriber viewer engagement is not increasing in the video.
Good time to be thinking of RRSP contributions.
Absolutely. You have until March 3. And you're entered into the draw. 👍
Great to hear your thoughts.
Thank you, fingers crossed. And you're entered into the draw. 👍
You can #borrow to #invest and have a # tax #deduction under specific circumstances
Remember that borrowing to #invest adds #risk
You can only deduct #interest for non-registered loans and investments
I use a #HELOC and #margin #loan
Glad I found you here incase TikTok goes bye bye.
Definitely, I'm easy to reach here. I've been on TH-cam before TikTok. Also, as a Canadian, I will not be affected by what's happening in the US. You're entered in the draw. 👍
This is using a simple #loan, which, if timed correctly, should have no interest on it, to increase your #RRSP #contribution
There's a formula for how much you can borrow
The #timing of the #loan could be so that there's no #interest paid at all before you pay it off
This is my feel good #options story for January 17, 2025
This is a great #strategy since at most only one of the options can be true, and at best, neither. You get twice the #premium
This is good for #cashflow and #stock accumulation
#Investing in #growth #stocks
Selling a few shares is fine for #growth #stocks to make some #cashflow
You don't need #dividends to identify good stocks - an increasing #EPS will do the same
Choosing #growth vs #dividends is a personal style choice
What are your thoughts on BCE cutting dividends? They keep saying no, but debt servicing forces their hand in my opinion.
It could get cut. They said they won't raise it in 2025, and for the good of the company, they might cut it; the market might actually like it. And I entered you in the draw. 🙂
#January #2025 #update
#TD is getting their #AML procedures fixed
It could take #years to improve the #AML procedures
My #favorite #investing #books
Some books about picking #stocks
The Wealthy Barber is another one
The millionaire next door, my first book about investing
The FTS #investments are purely for tax purposes, allowing the #investor to get, as #deductions, the #expenses of the junior #miner, encouraging #investors to invest in the #sector.
Depending on your tax situation, you may come out ahead from these
It wouldn't be a viable #strategy for me
These are #investments suited to very few people
Assumed I retired with tax free income of C$54K from qualified DFN monthly income. With other taxable income (with C$15K income tax), Let say TFSA has an annual cap of C$15K, so if I withdrawn RRSP of a amount that has C$15K tax and transferred to TFSA, would that become tax free?
If i understand correctly, the answer is no. If you pull money out from an RRSP and that created a $15K tax liability, only a tax deduction (e.g. tax-deductible loan interest, where you were borrowing to invest, like a mortgage on a rental property) would offset some or all of that 15K in taxes. You owe the 15K to the CRA, so you can't buy anything with it, by the way, including TFSA assets. And lastly, TFSA is bought with after-tax money, so if you make a salary, pay taxes on it, what's left over can be used to buy TFSA assets. I hope that helps.
@@canadianmoneytalk yes that correct, I just realised only rrsp contribution is before tax. TfSA is after fax but it is tax free investment limited by annual contribution. So while rrsp withdrawal is at low end tax cost and can be used to contribute tfsa right?. Sorry for earlier creative thinking I was bit tried from work.
@@riscy00 Yes, ideally, withdraw RRSPs when you are in a low tax bracket, since the withdrawal is taxable. RRSPs are supposed to be bought when you are working and making lots of money, and withdrawn when you are retired and in a low tax bracket. And yes, you can use the money from the RRSP to buy whatever you'd like, including TFSA.
Thank you. Increased position in TD. I agree T is a good company but quite pricey IMO considering that growth is challenging and market is very competitive. What are your thoughts on the direction of the dollar in 2025?
I entered you in the draw. 🙂 As far as dollar, I think there may be further CAD weakness in the short term, but eventually, the USD will weaken compared to all the other currencies.
The stock metrics I look for
As a #Value investor, I like a low #PE
Price-to-book is important because it shows how much I am paying for the company's assets
Your #brokerage should have a filter available
excellent advice for investers
Thanks, and you're entered into the draw 👍
Add me to the draw plz :)
keep the content coming love that you are specific to canadian investing programs
Be aware of the #liquidity of a #stock or #ETF
The #bid #ask spread tells you about liquidity - a small spread means the #stock is #liquid
If the stock isn't liquid, you may not get the #price you want or are expecting
You may not be able to get the last price the stock traded at if not liquid
Hello, and thanks for the video. Are you planning to buy and hold or use options to create income?
I'm buy-and-hold generally. I sell Puts to get more stocks, and the ones I have out now on the stocks mentioned in the video are: T Jan17'25 21, TD Jan17'25 72, and T Jan17'25 22. You're in the "lottery", BTW. Thanks for commenting. ;)
Hey, Sir been with u from last 2 years
Thank you for the support. You're in the "lottery".
My #top #picks for #2025, plus a #free #mentoring #promotion
There is a few #dividend #payers, but also #cheap #growth #stocks
I own these and I am adding to them.
As usual, please do your own research
Generally try to keep a #tax #deferral going as long as possible
If one of your #retirement #accounts had a high balance, like over 500K in your #RRSP, you might consider starting to #withdraw earlier to lower the annual #withdrawals
#TFSA is a good one to fill in gaps in income
#LIRA is available only at 55, #RRSP you can pull money out of any time
This instrumental masterpiece feels incredibly calming! It's the ideal backdrop for pure relaxation. Grateful for the gift of your talent!
Basically the government elites don’t want us peasants making a profit off our investments, so they are taxing it out of us
Hey you know what will help Canadians struggling with affordability? Make they pay more taxes !
I'm with you. I'm just the messenger, though. ;)
Cons seemed focussed on the carbon tax and not this tax. PP is oddly silent on this. (And many other issues)
Most people don't feel affected by the capital inclusion number. Unless you have a corporation, sold a piece of real estate in late 2024 or had a passing in the family where the whole portfolio was deemed as sold, it doesn't affect you. I'm glad I sold the last piece of my US real estate in 2023, otherwise this would have been unpleasant.
@canadianmoneytalk yeah I'm in one of those 3 scenerios right now. Taxation is theft.
The #capitalgains #inclusion will be in effect at least for one #tax #year
As soon as a notice of Ways and Means Motion is tabled, it's considered in force
So we are stuck with it
At least they gave us a heads up before implementing it
If you enjoy #stock #analysis, and have time to keep up to date on them, buy individual #stocks
#ETFs are fine for someone who doesn't enjoy the #stock #analysis
#ETFs have built-in #diversification
Almost 900k in appreciated investments, 160k in dividends are amazing! 🎉 congrats to you. Well deserved for all the time you’ve put in and give back to others!
Thanks. All the work was a labor of love to get me out of the rat race.
These are some things I do first thing in #January, or even on #NewYear's Eve, waiting for the fireworks to end 🙂
#Budget review, #portfolio #performance #review and #taxes are all considered
A few other #administrative #yearend items are suggested
Everybody should have a #yearend routine
What #technology to replace #telco #investments with
I own #microsoft #google and #amazon
I avoid #investing in companies that don't make a #profit or have #positive #cashflow
#Technology is a good long-term #investment
#Vanguard and #targetdate #funds
I do have a #vanguard #emergingmarkets #ETF #VEE
I dislike the lack of control in #targetdate #funds
The #couchpotatoportfolio
You can do a little #rebalancing when needed once per #year
It is very easy to construct a #portfolio
The #bonds in a #TFSA are a good choice for #tax purposes
What to do once you max out the #TFSA
#FHSA is a good first thing to invest in
Look at #RRSP if you're in a high tax bracket
In a low tax bracket, non-registered account is also a possibility
#Foreign #dividend payers should be in an #RRSP
#canadian #ligible #dividends are fine in a #nonregistered account
Make sure the #foreign #dividend payer is foreign traded i.e. on a US stock exchange
#foreign #dividends are not great in #TFSA because of the 15% tax withholding on a foreign dividend
Happy New Year to you and Goose! I do a year end net worth statement as well. I’m usually thinking of taxes, not only throughout the year but especially in December
Thank you, and same to you. Tax planning is done is November & December, not April, absolutely. 🙂
Where would you invest this year (Jan 2025) in Tfsa? With these assumptions .. an international student doing masters in Canada completing in 2026. Based on the current situation not sure if I will continue to stay in Canada beyond one year post graduation( yr 2027). Already invested via Tfsa with 50% vfv and 50% xqq. I have a high risk appetite. Thanks
There's nothing wrong with adding to what you have - there is some overlap between S&P500 and NASDAQ-100, but if you like the US, and believe they will continue to do well, why not? These will have significant volatility, especially the Nasdaq. If you want to spice up your life, look at something from emerging markets. I believe that's where the growth will be, because of the increasing, and young, population, but that's a long-term, personal thesis.
Happy New Year sir! Wishing you and yours prosperity and good health in the coming year(s).
Happy New Year! All the best. 2025 can't be better than 2024 from an investing point of view, but let's see. ;)
My #yearend #checkup
I look at the #change in #networth
I compare the #budget to the #actuals and see where my #expectations were way off
Get a total for my #dividend #income
I just picked it up at 44. Let’s see what…😊
I got the Canadian stock, on the Toronto Stock Exchange. The price was higher in Canadian dollars. It's sort of hanging in there.
