This is probably the most valuable productivity related video I’ve seen. I know all the hacks about getting motivated and focused, but nobody I’ve seen until now is talking about how to find joy in life again through play. Thanks for helping me reflect on my type; I think I’m a director/explorer/storyteller!
7:27 I was watching this thinking “do I just hate fun”? Then you got to storyteller and it all made sense lol This also explains my love of Episode and Sims 4 lol
I have consistently been an explorer/ creator (crafter) my whole life. I love crafts and improving my skills/ learning new ones. I immediately drew connections with an earlier video you had on tying your goals to your top priorities. Three of my priorities: growth, curiosity, and creativity all tie back to those two play personalities. I love learning languages (and I'm a language professor), traveling, reading - and writing helps me think through and process all the new things I explore. These videos have really helped me to see how my work and free time all revolve around those same priorities/interests.
This was interesting. First, I need to say that I was still playing with Barbies when I was 12. Definitely trying to hide that from others by then but I held onto that world as long as I could. One of the things I did and still do is daydream. That one that takes more exploring. What do I daydream about? I like fiction, what is it I like about it? When I have written fiction, I don't think it's about storytelling. That may sound weird but it's more about creation and exploration. The two that showed up the strongest for me are creator/artist and explorer. I don't consider myself much of an "artist" but definitely a creator. At the same time, there is a reason I knit and crochet. My favorites are the ones where I am making up my own patterns, playing with things (how does this stitch work with that one?), and the like. I enjoy the finished piece but I actually enjoy the learning and experimental aspects more. I think I like productivity channels for the exploration aspect, not the director aspect. I can plan and when there is a party I can plan it well but it is more of an eh thing. I LOVE learning. I also love blogging and making videos about what I learn. I don't do it often anymore but that's something I like. Have I mentioned that I love learning? I'm itching to get my daughter awake to find out her dominant because I get to share what I have learned. Before I finish, I wanted to mention what I would do with friends. I realized that it is a bit of an explorer thing. I simply want to go somewhere comfortable and talk. I want to share what I've been learning and more importantly I want to know how they are doing. I want to explore them as a person. I love learning what makes them tick. I also like sharing wisdom to improve their lives. Well, I think my dominant one showed itself in my long explanation here. LOL I wasn't sure from just the questions. I had it down to two but as I have been explaining, the dominant showed its beautiful face.
This is very interesting. I fall in the Creator/Artist, Explorer and Kinesthete categories. What a fun and informational video. Love it. It really gets you thinking for sure.
I think explorer but one of the things that gives me most satisfaction/a place where I truly feel myself is when I can share my knowledge and what I learned with others. I like to explain things, I worked for a while in a museum and doing guided tours was honestly the best thing ever. I like to answer questions, learn knew things but a fundamental part of the process for me is then share this knowledge. I am not sure if there is a play personality that covers this
As you were going through the play personalities, I felt like I identified with almost all of them. I did the exercise and still struggled to narrow it down. I'm a kinesthete, competitor, and director who also enjoys exploring and creating. I definitely found value in reflecting. I can incorporate a lot of different things based on these play styles. Thank you for sharing this. I'm excited to implement and I'll likely revisit this in the future.
I felt that way but when I read more about Explorer it turned out that all of the others stem from my love of experiencing new things and learning, so they really all stem from my core one being Explorer! you might be the same as me
What a fun video! This taps into my 2024 word of the year, which is “explore.” I want to learn and try new experiences, whether that takes the form of a 31-day mindfulness challenge (just completed) or a first-time overnight backpacking trip (currently prepping for this). I’m also a collector with a lot of new camping gear, lol. I’m fortunate that my spouse and I have overlapping and complementing forms of play. He enjoys tinkering with and building out vintage bicycles, and I enjoy riding them with him. We both enjoy fountain pens, but I’m the one who enjoys tinkering, cleaning, and refilling them, so I do that for both of us. Then there’s knitting and spinning (creator) accompanied by a massive yarn and fiber stash….
Writing fiction and nonfiction are what I do for fun. I also enjoy getting out and gardening. I would basically call myself an explorer, storyteller, and probably kinesthetic because I enjoy getting my hands dirty in the garden. I like to explore various ways of gardening and garden plants too.
I'm a definitly a creative/ artistic, colector. Blow my mind realize I'm also kinesthete wich is a part of me I'm neglecting, its time to fix that. And yes I still doing things I use to do when I was child and I'm 61. 😊❤ Thank you!
love the video!! i definitely fit the explorer/creator types just feel like i never have time for play :( hopefully i can find more time or have a mindset shift when i'm at work
I think I am explorer with a side of creator. I love games like Stardew Valley where there's a set of loose goals but really the idea is just to unlock all the skills and the whole map and build relationships with the characters. I also love puzzles (fortunate, since my career is related to software/data exploration, and both of those share a lot with puzzles), which feels more related to creator/inventor with taking things apart and putting them back together. Most of my "given absolute freedom" activities are related to exploration, including exploring stories/topics, and most of my "lose time" activities are related to solving puzzles, so I think I explore to relax and learn/solve puzzles in order to recharge. Interesting video topic and I have a lot to think about now!
I’m definitely a storyteller - writing books since I was a child, playing with Barbies and paper dolls, loving to pretend and also doing a lot of acting for most of my life. But what about music and dance? One of my very favorite things to do is go see live music and that is what I would do with a friend. I love to dance to live music more than anything. Wondering where musicians would fit in here as well. They don’t necessarily produce something tangible?
Rachelle you HAVE to stop reading my mind, it's getting weird!! I read the first little section of Ali Abdaal's book and wanted to look into this more. Come to think of it, that's probably where you got the idea for this video too! Glad we are in sync lol :)
Creator Kinesthete And then lil bit of everything. Like just 1 aspect. I like to collect stationary nothing else. Explore on internet nothing else. Fandom of singers idk. Lil lil. Is me
I literally had "how to play more as an adult" written on my running task list this week, this came at such a good time for me!

I’m an explorer and I’m so grateful that my job as a biologist feels like play most of the time!

We need another video on this topic to know how to integrate it with our daily jobs

Just read the first few chapters of Alis book. Nice to have this catch up video! Thank you so much @RachelleinTheory for your inspiring content!
Collector/Artist/Storyteller here. (And I also collect tarot cards! Been into tarot since the 1980s).
Played today, 97 miles on my Honda Rebel 1100T DCT.... speed and wind therapy 🤟😁
Definitely primarily artist/creator for me, as well as collector!
Such a fun video, Thank you for sharing ☺☺

Is it strange that for all of the first 6 questions I anwered reading and learning?,😂
I also definitely played with Barbies when I was 12 😄and then I discovered The Sims and just moved on to that 😅
