Watching Alien Romulus Is like watching Saw 7 but the plot twist is always the same one from the original movie and you just cheer for it because you recognize the thing, yay.

The practical aliens looked so great. Why give us that, then go and give us CGI-Ash? It looked so bad - could've just been some random actor as the 'company man'. Dude - remember the animatronic version of Bishop in Alien3? If they just HAD to give us damaged Ash-model, then why not just give us an animatronic-version? I could have accepted that - probably even thought it was cool. But what we got was so bad - I hate it. Took me out of the movie. There are some really great things about Romulus - what I liked was really good, what I didn't like I hate with the hate. Having a hard time remembering a movie where I loved and hated things in quite the same way. Mixed bag is right (I did quite enjoy that final act, though - it was bananas and I loved it).

Very ordinary, and average movie. Some of the decisions to put in the stuff they did - it's hard to believe there was a discussion and people working on the movie decided it was a good idea to put them in!! Then like 75% of the movie goers think it was a really, really shit idea! It does look amazing though, apart from the shonky CGI , most noticeably rubbish in a certain character they decided to bring back from the original movie. Why? Who oh why did they do that?! 😕What's more, someone should have made the decision NOT to use any of the dialogue lines from Alien or Aliens. Another stupid, lazy decision.

I LOVED the original ideas in the movie. The de-aged scene was jaw dropping.. in a bad way. It's like Ridley Scott just took over the movie and had a character remind us what happened in Alien 1. I don't like that we had Ash. It could have been an entirely different android and it would have been better. The action sequence in the mid drags the movie down as well.. Because it did a lot of great job building up suspense slowly and lore stuff. I also like the ending. The moment I saw it, i was amazed by the balls. And I ended up liking it. It just feels that Fede had a lot of voices barking away their own ideas instead of letting him go.
200% agree - a new actor for the destroyed android would have been fine. They went through all the trouble to bring us practical aliens, and they look VERY good... only to give us a CGI-dead actor. But... why? It is so distracting. I did quite enjoy the final act - I had no idea where things were going. For as weird as it was, that was refreshing. But the bad parts I hate. Completely agree. It's a mixed bag. And funnily enough it feels to me like despite all the countless "Best of Alien" moments it's not really targeted at the old fan base at all, but rather to pull new viewers into the franchise for the upcoming Alien: Earth series.. I mean, the aesthetics of the alien universe completely got me. Great stuff! But apart from this, the constant recycling of lines and camera shots from the franchise completely killed all suspense for me. Been there, seen that.. Also, why is nobody ever pointing out that this is a movie about a young, hard working, orphaned woman from a backwater planet, with a robotic/synthetic sidekick, called Rey(ne), getting a chance at leaving the planet after a scene with an official/scraps dealer in which she gets ripped off... What the frak??

It’s crazy how much I agree with all of this!!! I really like covenant and Prometheus. I thought this would be that. I was like why would they make a synthetic with so many issues? And if he was autistic they would cast someone autistic. It rubbed me the wrong way when he got the upgrade she wanted to downgrade him…. She being white and he being black… it was weird. Choices were made. But the aliens gave some jaw dropping moments that were grotesque. With all of the high stakes her main goal was to downgrade him. I did not like that. And he wasn’t really evil. I find most humans in the alien franshise are cartoonishly dumb to be space cadets. So he was making common sense moves. Every decision they make is just dumb. It is a big bag of weird. I found it odd when she was thrust in to space she wasn’t like effected by that. Like you’re in open space. Those shots were beautiful. It’s a weird mix of emotions.

Let me explain the Ending to you in just one word! DISAPPOINTING .....No Eggs but dozen of Facehuggers!? They escape from one Alien but suddenly they are in a Hive with dozens of Aliens! But the Prometheus Monster was ridiculous!
So, to explain the facehugger thing, apparently those were genetically 3d printed face huggers, hence, the no eggs. I didn’t catch it from the film but heard it somewhere.

I like the movie up to the point where they had the alien hybrid towards the end of it because that just felt like lazy writing. To me that part just didn’t seem to fit at all with the rest of the story. It felt like it was added on as an afterthought just for the character to fight something and make a hasty conclusion. I think they should’ve done the ending differently.
Loved the film but it could've been better. I wanted to care more about the side characters. It would've been better if they explained that the crew was so young because they're all second-generation workers born on the mining planet. All their parents have died by being overworked. It would've made them more sympathetic. These kids have known nothing but this hellish planet, and their families all died because of this soulless corporation. They just want to go somewhere, anywhere else. Imagine a line like, "If we don't take this chance, they'll work us to death just like our parents!" Maybe Kay, the pregnant character, says she needs to leave because recent births on the planet have had complications and even mutations because the toxicity of the planet has risen. Would make what happens to her even sader, her nightmare come true.

Yeah! Saw it with a friend, and I'm glad I did so we could joke about the situations happening, otherwise it would've been kinda meh. As you mentioned, it doesn't bring anything new to the table, but I'm still happy we got more alien.
Prometheus is a great movie. People just don't understand the symbolism and depth of the concepts in the movie. People are just to stupid, and only want monster-action. I wish we could have had a Covenant without the Xenomorph-stuff shoehorned in for pleasing the simpleminded.
Prometheus is a great idea... For a standalone film. What it's not great at is being a prequel to Alien that returns to the "space jockey" in the chair. Prometheus does not really work as a prequel to that, which is what Prometheus is pitched to the audience as doing.

Maybe Kay, the pregnant character, says she needs to leave because recent births on the planet have had complications and even mutations because the toxicity of the planet has risen. Would make what happens to her even sader, her nightmare come true.

There are implications, but we never really get a clear picture of what all these young people are doing working on a planet like this. We know that Rain's parents and Bjorn's parents died from their work in the mine, but that's really it. They're all around the same age, know each other, and have worked together in the past. How? Why?

Like it but was disappointed with things. Mainly the minimal xenomorph screen time. I wanted more hunting and chase scenes. Even the gore was tame.
@@rsnickster363 yeh that’s a thing I didn’t really mention but I 100% felt the aliens got kinda dogged with screen time and moments. And yeh the kills didn’t wow or shock me like evil dead remake did which I expected from Fede Alvarez

Just watched it. It is good? Well...best since Alien and Aliens BUT its a pure Carbon copy! 80%alien 20%aliens. I was entertained yes but it does NOTHING new!

...This is a hreat example of why IP flicks never fully work. Being faithful to the original and different at the same time is a difficult line to walk. Maybe it is time to embrace NEW IDEAS in Hollywood.

@@SpaceKrakenMedia i think ultimately you'd have to blame him. It's his movie. He's getting all the kudos for it. And besides, this entire movie is divided up into segments of every other alien movie. Its almost crazy. At what point do you say "ok, that was his idea and it was great"?

People are going to hate it. Others will love it. Personally, I really enjoyed it and thought the end sequence was a nice homage to us fans who enjoyed Prometheus and AC.
Just using the same ideas again is "honoring the fans"

Yeah! Saw it with a friend, and I'm glad I did so we could joke about the situations happening, otherwise it would've been kinda meh. As you mentioned, it doesn't bring anything new to the table, but I'm still happy we got more alien.

Prometheus is a great movie. People just don't understand the symbolism and depth of the concepts in the movie. People are just to stupid, and only want monster-action. I wish we could have had a Covenant without the Xenomorph-stuff shoehorned in for pleasing the simpleminded.
Prometheus is a great idea... For a standalone film.
What it's not great at is being a prequel to Alien that returns to the "space jockey" in the chair.
Prometheus does not really work as a prequel to that, which is what Prometheus is pitched to the audience as doing.

@@William-the-Guy yeh that’s why I understand why people don’t love it , whereas I never was the biggest alien guy growing up so I wasn’t as knowledgeable or caring about the lore. But I respect fans who love the lore and such and it would be very different film from that lens

All I’ve heard are excellent reviews of this movie. It made me think 🤔 they must of just recycled either the beloved Alien or Aliens but no other reviewer has said this. “Budget Ridley” 😅 Haven’t seen it yet but I am. By the way I really liked Prometheus. Thanks for keeping it real.
