RAE in 2021 [on Will Smith punching an alien in the face]: He could break his hand! What are you doing Will Smith?! He’s very impulsive! 2022: yes, we know…!
Swear to God, I thought I was the only kid who was freaked out by Mars Attacks as a toddler. Now that I think of it, not a lot of other toddlers were in the theater. Thanks dad!
Oh yeah, when they suddenly started turning people into skeletons? But now when I watch it it's goofy as hell and I still have that bit of residual dread so it's a neat mixed emotion
@@BTAL1ama It's the overwhelming sense of humanity being totally unable to defend themselves from absolute slaughter at any moment that really hit me. But then country music, AMERICAS MUSIC, beats their big bulging ugly fucking heads to goo and it's amazing.
I think that's the best opening to one of your podcasts so far, ''that's a very complicated question.....uh.....Clint?' had me laughing as hard as Ian was in the background🤣
Just wanted to stay off and say, long time listener, first time caller / commenter. I've been listening to these podcasts for a while now and thought I would finally leave a comment. Thanks for so many laughs and very insightful research into some of our favourite films (or films we love to hate) gets made! I was about 10 years old when ID4 came out and remember my parents taking my whole family to see the film. It was a big thing for us. My parents are Sci Fi fans and big Stargate SG1 fans, thanks for reminding me that Roland Emmerich did Stargate! Back to the point. There was so much hype about this film, and I can't remember my parents ever being as excited to see a film again. You hit this hype pretty well in the podcast. Also love the bit at the start, it made me laugh and kinda reminded me of the Wisecrack TH-cam video series Alien's guide to cinema. Now I'm curious to check to see if Wisecrack ever covered ID4 🤔
I found your channel like a week ago and watch one episode a day at least. The fun you have is contagous and i am a sucker for behind the scenes stuff. thanks a lot an please keep making great podcasts !
I snuck out of work because they dropped it early. The theater was PACKED! My lunch break was spent sitting in the aisle, not an aisle seat, but the actual disgusting, sticky, 2 year old popcorn covered carpeted aisle on top of my work jacket so no one knew where I worked. I loved every second of it.
Judd Hirsch's character arch in independence day 2 is the best. The Xenophobia obsessed doomsday crackpot that drives a bus away from a really big bug alien queen. He gos through every emotion
yeah this video made want to watch the plenty of edits of that scene. like that oscar slap is such a will smith meme now where many of his scenes can take on a new meaning if edited right.
Honestly, Will Smith improvising his lines shouldn’t be that surprising, as the first medium in which he made it was rap; and he was well-known for his improvising skills on the mic. Sadly, RIP Smith’s career at this point.
The thing I remember as a kid seeing mars attacks is all the dog death and dog mutilation. It may have been the genesis of my distaste for shock humor.
I saw this on opening day in Augusta Maine, in a theater of about 30 people (early matinee show) and when the "July 3rd" card rolled, the place was dead silent except for me going "shit". true story.
i feel like randy quaid's character was there to represent the simple americans and their involvement in the invasion. all of the characters in the movie are supposed to represent the various level of americans and how they react to and contribute to everything that happens.
1:04:57 "classic nostalgia", but not "classic" as in this a movie will change your life or adds something you were missing to the human condition. Entertaining, absolutely. ( I also have half this movie memorized from repeat VHS viewings multiple time a day during summer vacation)
I'm surprised you guys didn't bring up the second trailer, which was just the Empire State building blowing up, shown from the point of view of the blonde guy standing on the street. In the movie itself, they only show him for a couple seconds (he has way more screen time in the trailer), but once again, none of the stars were shown in the trailer.
I'm not American and that speech still brings me to tears. In the Cinema I first watched it in 96, people cheered after the speech, and British people don't usually do that. Certainly not then.
Ooo I was somewhere between fla and chgo, probly tenns or ky. At a gas station or somethg. There were movie promo 3d cards for free on the counter so i grabbed it bc cool movie, and freebie. White house, tilt, white house blowing up. Tilt tilt tilt all the way home
Probably because they have pretty shit takes for the review portion of their talks - e.g. they think Inendependence Day is a great movie and a serious scifi treatment- their banter is inane and insufferable, and their research is often shallow to non-existent - e.g. Independence Day is a totally original concept - have they never heard of V? And the directors openly discussed how they took inspiration from Star Wars and Spielberg movies. This podcast should just be the main guy sharing the behind-the-scenes stories. The other two bring literally nothing to the table.
question about "Method Director" patreon package, are these videos available with video footage in that(instead of this thumbnail image+ audio)? or its something else?
We are never on camera for the podcasts. We are during our Rewind videos which are Patreon exclusive. And Method Directors get the extended Director Cuts version of each episode.
Emmerich missed a trick by not calling The Patriot, Independence Some Day It also contains a bit where Mel Gibson asks Joely Richardson if he can sit next to her to which she says "It's a Free Country............Or it soon will be".
@@ItWasAShtShow Lol I remember at the time critics commenting on it. It's weirdly like Deliberately Anachronistic Humor. Like an SNL sketch on the Founding Fathers. To paraphrase your podcast, they made a serious film of the spoof.
Late for this sh*tshow, but hey. Y'all were too young to see that trailer/teaser, when it first came out. I call it "The 100 Million Dollar Trailer". That trailer created so much enthusiasm, it's hard to measure by podcasters. Everyone was BUZZING about that movie, the girl I worked with had a midnight screening that 7//3/1996, and "Awesome!!" was my thought. Every paying customer was psyched as hel. Cheers went all over the place that night, it delivered. But without that "$100-million Dollar Trailer", there would not have been that SH*TTON of enthusiasm. It would've beenfan favorite ... not a cultural event.
I think one of the reasons why I never liked ID4 is because I saw it as a poor ripoff of the mini series V. And the last quarter of the movie ripped the last quarter of Star Wars:ANH.
Far from annoying, I find it intelligent and informative, whilst at the same time lighthearted. I like the cheerful banter whilst talking about how the movies were created. I'm certainly not interested in hearing people drone on like it's some sort of documentary.
