  • This is my 2023 Tesla Model Y Long range that has Free Supercharging. I have had this for about 1 month now and I am doing my first long drive. The weather is very cold between 30-39 degrees so it will be interesting to see how the range is affected

Glad to see you’re enjoying the new model Y. I too got a new Tesla after transferring free unlimited supercharging. Only got to drive it a day since it’s currently in the shop getting a PPF. Watching videos like yours keep me sane haha. I do agree with you in that I got the long range model S, instead of the plaid. It is plenty fast enough and a ton of range. In my old model S I would always use the trip meter and look at wh/m. If the estimated range from there was higher than the distance left to get to my destination, I knew I was in good shape.
Anyway, keep up the good content!

That's cool you transferred your free supercharging to your new S! How much did the PPF cost you? Thanks for watching!!

"the weather is very cold between 30-39f" I wish it was that cold here... -30f this morning here, my wife's model Y range takes a massive hit when its this cold

We are not that cold here but still single digits. The issue that I have is that my Model Y Long Range sounds like you are shaking a coffee can full of nuts and bolts when it is cold. I am super disappointed in the Tesla's lack of quality.

@@chiplangowski3298 my wife's model Y does a rattling sound when its very cold, I noticed it right away when we got it, went back to the tesla service center and it's the heat pump compressor, makes sense it stops as soon as it gets warmer. I'm not an automotive guy but overall I like the tesla and I am quite impressed with how well it drives. The tesla guys told me that we're getting model Ys made in shanghai here in canada now, he said the assembly quality and finish is much better in the chinese models vs the ones they were getting from texas

I did a trip recently in a fairly new model Y. Started with 330 but was at a supercharger with 2% left at 220 miles. I got >100 miles of delta from 100% to 2%

Performance doesn't lose really that much. That being said you have the temp set to manual at 73 degrees, its 31F we don't know the wind conditions. 327 watts a mile is actually really good in that situation. Maybe it could have been a bit better but still not bad.

It's all about wh/mi. If rated 318 mi on full charge, to get full 318 you will need to average 236 wh/mi. Now if you drive in town all day lots of stop and go, because of regen braking you can archive that often or do even better. But at steady 70 mph you are probably going to see 270 wh/mi at best. Any extra cost with elevation, climate control - the energy app will tell you exact %. I've seen climate (heating) cost in my MYLR as much as 25% of driving in 20 degree weather. Then we can extrapolate the wh/mi to be up by 25% over the baseline 270, which is about 335 wh/mi. or 222 miles of range. Since your condition is a bit warmer, 250 mil range is achievable at 70mph

Thanks for this video. From a high-level perspective it’s clear that these cars are not ready for prime time. Short range and complexity of operation isn’t gonna work for most drivers. Range has got to improve and that will simplify operation. Thanks to all you first adopters.

@@Myksgarage how can they be driven on road trips dude you just lost 99 miles of range that doesn’t make sense??. You are too much of a believer of Elon musk’s lies. So many TH-camrs are saying EV’s are now declining. They have record low, sales. This is going to be an end of an era dude.

A huge difference with ICE and EV is ICE gets good range on highway and lower in stop and go traffic. With EV it's the opposite. I have 11k miles on my Model Y and only used a super charger 4 times on one trip. It charged super fast and I was in a store or eating for all but one so I wasn't really waiting for it to charge. My other car is a minivan and even though I drive it much less, I spend more time fueling it, getting into it and realizing it needs gas (I hate that) and waiting in a line at Costco because gas is cheaper there. Charging is definitely something to consider but my experience is that charging at home every night for a few dollars is amazing.

Hey Myks! Thank you for these videos they are really helpful!
Check this out. I bought a used Tesla Model Y 2021 long range with the 20 inc induction wheels (same as you) and 27850 miles on it. Had it for about 3 weeks now. I’ve been monitoring the range closely and today I drove 64 miles total but the car consumed “115” mile. (Charged this morning to 80%-240 miles and landed home with 42%-125 miles left).
My question is… Is this my idea or are these numbers I’m sharing super f****ed up? I live in Miami Florida with a really nice weather ~84 degrees average today and maybe 30% of the 64 real miles were highway.
What are your thoughts on this? What would you do? I bought it from the Tesla directly but I’m really starting to think that the range shouldn’t be that bad considering is a fairly new car don’t you think?

    • @Myksgarage
      @Myksgarage  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thanks for sharing your experience, i'm not sure if there's much you can do. Luckily you have the long range, and as you are learning these cars just don't get the advertised range. So just learn how far the car will travel and enjoy not having to pay for gas.

I have a 2023 MY Long Range. My daily commute is about 50 miles, mixture of city/highway. When it is really cold (below freezing), I will use about 65-70 miles of indicated range. When it is warm, the indicated range used is never more than 55-60 miles. The highway section of the trip is rarely over 70mph. Lots of stop and go which also probably helps extend the range.

Tesla should be sued because they should have known he was going to traveling on a road at 80 miles per hour?😂. The battery doesn’t know what the speed limit is, so even if it happens to be legal somewhere, going 80mph will drain a battery significantly faster. On an ICE vehicle, you’ll get much closer to the car’s highway rated MPG when traveling at 60 than you will 80.

@@scotthanna4836 Sued because of the FSD, not the range, obviously!
