The beauty off FFXIV is that you can have all the jobs with one character. So if you wanna switch between summoner and samurai, then you can do that with no problem.
@@Psybear_tv It is a slog getting them ALL to max level until you have one of each role. You get a bonus on XP on all jobs inside a similar role as long as you have one that is of higher level. That and collect all the XP bonus trinkets. They may 'turn off' after a certain level, but every time you are in a roulette that puts you under its cut-off point it reactivates. So you can quickly put them back on. Also keep a stack of cheapo food on hand. Even Orange Juice gives a 3% XP buff and ALL the bonuses stack.
@@TarossBlackburn The Armory XP bonus (the bonus for having a higher level job), is for having *any* higher level combat job. It doesn't have to be within the same role. If you had a level 90 white mage, you would have the bonus whether you were leveling warrior, samurai, or summoner.
@@TarossBlackburn IMO. They are far easier to level up to max. I just autopilot, and don't think too much about it. And by the time you know it, you're max level.
Just a side note but the video from larryzaur is great, but it's also from the last expansion, so some things have changed and there are also 2 new jobs in the game now.
Word of warning, don't rush leveling. Here, the journey matters. Also, don't bother with the side quests unless the next MSQ quest is level locked. You can have all the jobs on one character and you might need those sidequests for leveling those.
I firmly believe you’re making a sound decision with starting as a DPS before trying tank and healing roles, I did all of the MSQ as Black Mage before I went to Dark Knight. What really matters is finding what works for you.
one point in summoner's favor is that it shares level with scholar, the only two jobs that work that way (long story, old approach to job systems that was abandoned early) the upswing of which is that while you level a dps, you'll always have a healer in your pocket should the need arise
As long as you remember to do the job quests for both to unlock all the spells and abilities, or did they change that when I decided to ignore patch notes last time?
@@Nuinwing Nah, still gotta do both job questlines. And keep a set of gear for the other one on hand. Do not be like my friend who leveled summoner to 74, then tried to swap to scholar and ended up in a set of level 44 healer gear =P
one thing i'd have to add, is you really don't have to worry about learning mechanics as much in this game. The game teaches you how everything works quite nicely. Never was as daunting as randomly locking in tank or healer in m+.
The best guides are from Jocat in his "crap guides to Final Fantasy" they're satirical summaries of the roles and jobs, but are also really good Edit: Pro Tip: at levels 50, 60, 70, and 90 do the Hildebrand quest line, they are some of the best writing and animation that really shows what the engine can do(also it's a test bed for new techniques and technology).
I’ve been playing for 2 years + endgame raiding, all of the advice in this comment section is excellent. Bard is closest to what you mentioned at the beginning: it’s mobile, far more than even the melees, but no cast bar, and it’s the last job with consistent dot management. My only recommendation is to please, please watch every cutscene and read the dialogue: I promise it will enhance your experience so much more. There’s probably SOME fluff you can skip, especially in job quests, but some job quest lines are essential reading as well (Dark Knight foremost). Can’t wait to watch your xiv journey!
If you're looking for a dot uptime class, unfortunately it seems they're currently trying to shy away from Dot classes, Summoner used to be a Dot class, but with the rework they definitely shyed away from it, Currently the main "DoT" class is Bard, but even then it's kinda just an afterthought in the job design and in Endwalker they disconnected a lot of the connections to the DoTs so we might even see them get rid of them in the new Expac. Besides that, welcome to Eorzea!! idk why I got recommended your channel, but I hope you have a great time in the game I've dumped a lot of time into. Do your best to ignore the community when they say their opinions on ARR, it's a pretty slow story at the start, but once you get through it you'll have a REALLY good time. Good luck!!
Many people are hoping that the next caster job will focus primarily on debuffs. Which I'm all for, I played a debuff-heavy character in City of Heroes (D3) and absolutely enjoyed turning 20+ mobs into punching bags.
I think Samurai often gets.overlooked as a DoT class but making sure Higanbana doesn't drop and refreshing it as close as you can is a nice DoT-class style mini playstyle within the class ☺️ I really enjoy it I'm sad that Kaiten gave it some extra thought and now it's gone but it is what it is. But you are right they are moving away from dots.
@TheFrantic5 I doubt it, like I said earlier they have been trying to distance most jobs from their DoTs. Any job that was reliant on the DoTs for Mechanics have been changed from that. Obviously we don't know much about what the new caster will be, but I don't have high hopes for it being DoT focused
@shimmerblood idk if I would classify SAM as a DoT class, a lot of jobs have DoTs: Dragoon, Black Mage, all of the healers, Paladin, Gunbreaker during burst, and Monk all have DoTs, but their main Mechanics aren't based on their DoT, they're usually just an easy DPS increase. Compared to how Summoner and Bard were in Shadowbringers where their main flow was based off of keeping their DoTs up.
You won't get it for a while (unless you do a Job boost, but I don't reccomend it since it skips over the rather lore important job quests), but I do suggest Reaper, which is the latest Melee Job. The entire Job focuses on mantaining a debuff on enemies that allows your attacks to do more damage on it, while at the same time using attacks to gather up 2 different resources. One resource is consumed for stronger attacks and those stronger attacks generate resource 2, and resource 2 allows you to get into a big burst phase. It's pretty fun and very edgy. Plus it has claw attacks, it's like a Warlock + Feral Druid in terms of class fantasy.
Ninja is definitely trickier than a good number of the other jobs, but it has some tricks and small details to make it easier to understand. The handsigns, for instance, can be better understood by what hansign you end on rather than what specific order you press them. Take the AoE puddle of dirt, you can either do Ten-Jin-Chi or Jin-Ten-Chi, as long as its 3 signs ending in Chi. So theres some flexibility and wiggle room, but it will still be a lot to remember
tbf, if you are torn between samurai and summoner, just start as a summoner (archanist). you cannot start straight up out from char creation with a samurai cuz its from a later expansion, and you will be given an option later on to pick up any job and level them anytime you wish the early stages of summoner is just a variation of twerking carbuncles too, so enjoy while you can xD also quick tip: never try to level stuff at once, always keep one job ahead so you get an exp bonus for the lower level jobs
@Psybear_tv Only if the alternate job is below the level of your MSQ. SAM actually starts at 50, if you go through ARR on Summoner, you can pick up SAM immediately when you hit the level 50 story.
@@Psybear_tv you'll have to level up the job a bit to catch up. As an example, Dark knight was released in the first expansion heavensward (lvl 50 - 60) but dark knight starts at lvl 30, so you'll have to get to the level of the part of msq you're on. Hope this helps!
Welcome to Eorzea! You are gonna have a blast fighting the bosses in FFXIV. The Raids and the Extremes can be brutal! Especially if you are blind, or use minimum iLvL. Even I don't mess with Ultimate fights, as they are insanely difficult.
Welcome to Eorzea Psybear! As a Summoner Main I hope you're having fun with this class! (I picked summoner because I am a fan of mages and Rydia from FFIV. ^^;) If you need any tips for high level summoner just let me know! (One quick tip I have is keep the resurrection spell on your hotbar in case the healer/healers in your party suddenly go down. They will appreciate it since Summoner is often known as a "Res Mage" as well as Red Mage but not until later on in the levels)
Enjoy your journey in that story driven game! Common recommendations: -focus on the Main Story Quest (MSQ) and your job quests (yes, there is a story related to your jobs) -The MSQ will make sure that you are leveling up (don't need to power level) -The combat will feel slow at the beginning, but it get faster when including the off-cold down abilities. -Still worth to do the "Hall of novice" once per role. -You have a long journey ahead of you, take your time with it. They love doing calls back to stuff you have seen in the past. -No obligation but: During the 1st couple of dungeons, you might see a npc party, talk to them. When you have a hide out, talk to the people in it. -The music is great too (like... some of them are REAL banger) So, once again, enjoy your journey!
@@Psybear_tv 😆 True, but think about it... if you wait until that, the Free trial gets up to Stormblood (2nd expansion) with updated graphic! 😝lol Another thing... avoid as much spoilers possible. even the intro of each expansion can contain a spoiler if you aren't done with the x.55 story patch. That being said, the community will help you for sure and support you ;)
Hey! How fun that youre gonna play ffxiv. Its an amazing game I hope you will enjoy yourself there. I polay both wow and FF and they both tickle different itches for me. Im gonna enjoy this series if your going to put out more on ff.
Pro tip: You can mostly skip side quests. They're great and all, but FF14's progress is all about the story. ARR is slow, but sets up SO MUCH worldbuilding and necessary understanding of how the universe works and the political state of the world to REALLY get invested in the expansions. A Realm Reborn through Endwalker are a full 10 year continuous story arc, with Dawntrail kicking off a new one
@psybear_tv to add, skip all Yellow quests (after the first one from the introduction that's mandatory.). Unlike WoW, these give piss poor exp and you get the majority of your exp from the Main Story Quest. Yellow quests can give fun lore and are pleasant to do during downtime. My favorite yellow quest is this woman who asks you yo kill 6 boars because boars killed her fiance on her wedding day. I appreciate her bitterness. There are a handful that give minions or dances/emotes. Best to look those up in a wiki. Blue exclamation points unlock content or systems. Chat will direct you to do those.
Play what makes you have fun and you enjoy. Know that this may change over time. Everything is entirely viable in all content. I started as summoner, migrated to dancer, then sage, and settled on tank gunbreaker as the main. Regardless, it’s so easy to get jobs levels, it’s a no brainer to get multiple max level jobs
The glorious thing about starting with Arcanist, which is what you need for unlocking Summoner, is that you get a *Healer* job for FREE. Scholar and Summoner both branch off of Arcanist (it's the only pairing in the game like this) so even if what you're doing is leveling Summoner, if you ever decide to try your hand at Shield Healing, you already have a leveled Scholar to unlock and do the quests for! But yeah, Summoner is on my short list of favorite jobs to play alongside Red Mage, White Mage, Machinist, Dancer, Reaper, Gunbreaker, and Warrior.
summoner first till you reach lvl 50 for samurai, then try it out, best is to just try out every class and stick with the one that makes the most fun, dont really care about the dmg, first and very important is always the fun of playing a class/job, if the class/job is fun to play, its also fun to learn rotations and see the big numbers flying.
Don't get into the mindset that Tanks and Healers have additional responsibilities. As WeskAlber says, they have different responsibilities. Tanks have a reduced DPS rotation in exchange for the responsibility of boss placement (face them away from the party), mitigation management (use a cooldown on a tank buster or if you pulled more than 3 mobs), and maintaining aggro (Turn on your tank stance and make sure all the mobs are hit at least once). Healers have a vastly reduced DPS toolkit in exchange for the responsibility of keeping teammates alive, and their main trick is keeping up their damage while using their toolkit as efficiently as possible to keep everyone well. As a result of their reduced complexity, Healers also tend to have the most situational awareness in a fight, and can not only can learn bosses faster, but also have an option to yoink a teammate out of harm's way. As other's have said, you can play as every class/job on one character, and there's an option to play through dungeons with NPCs (Duty Support, Trusts, and Squadrons) so there is very little pressure when you feel like trying something new. Most good players recomment having at least one job in every role so you can understand what you can do as your current role in order to make your other teammate's lives easier (Things like not spinning the boss around as a tank, and standing inside the healing bubble in order to not annoy your healer.)
Sorry for the wall of text, but I'd also like to mention that if you do start as Arcanist, you can unlock both the Summoner and Scholar job at level 30, giving you a free chance to try healer. You also start in pirate town and beat up people with the power of math, glowing magical eevees, and heavy books. I never failed to chuckle when everyone draws weapons in a cutscene and you pull out a book intimidatingly. Just be aware that Summoner has the fewest buttons to push. Anyways, no matter what happens, take your time and enjoy the game like a 5 disc RPG.
Ooo I excited for the journey you are about to embark on my friend! WELCOME TO THE COMMUNITY! Brace yourself because ff14 community loves new sprouts ❤.
One thing to add when/if you get to end game. Of course, in the meantime play anything and everything. Reaper and Dragoon share gear. Monk and Samurai share gear. Ninja and the new job in Dawntrail will share gear. All phys ranged shar gear. All caster DPS share gear. (Tho, BiS may be different because BLM typically goes Spellspeed). There are serious criticisms fir 14's endgame gearing. Its entirely feasible and reasonable to gear up one job to BiS, but you will run into issues if you want to kevel more jobs. The raiding community have been critical of this and we hope for system changes for Dawntrail. This will not apply to you until like Fall of 2024, because by the the time you get to end game the weekly lockout will likely be gone.
DPS first is definitely a good choice. It gives you the chance to learn the dungeons and fights without the weight of responsibility. Samurai is hella satisfying and once you learn it, you can easily just go on autopilot and focus on other things you want to learn from the fight, like mechanics. Summoner is a fun Caster DPS, *especially* at higher levels imo. Very flashy.
Monk is incredibly fun and I absolutely LOVE how fast and fluid the combat can be but I main Reaper and personally, It's hands down the best melee dps in my opinion. Also, it hits hella hard if geared properly at endgame. The lore and storyline is absolutely incredible, I would highly suggest not skipping or rushing things, you'll be confused later on plus miss out on some great story content. You should roll on the Behemoth server on the primal server group if you are playing on the North American data center, lots of great and helpful people there. Good luck and have fun out there.
I've been maining Summoner since I started playing in 2.5, to this day. The job changed beyond recognition, it used to be a very pet focused, dot management job that was overly complex and you played a keyboard piano with it. These days it plays like "just press the shiny buttons lol". It was a hard recommendation then, these days tho I'd say it's a perfect job for a new player. You'll get the hang of it quick and it'll allow you to focus more on the game and less on how you play. But absolutely, try whichever job seems fun, it's likely your first pick will not remain your main in the long run. And besides, if you'll really get into the lore, you will want a melee, ranged, tank and a healer leveled available. Have fun!
it was never overly complex, it was a very long rotation that you needed to burn into your memory and any slip up would drastically hinder your damage. I played SMN since 2.0 launched, swapping from PUG in 1.0
As everyone has said you dont have to choose a single main here, I tend to have a main for every single Job type. Tank I main paladin, healing I main white mage, melee I main samurai, ranged I main machinist, and magic I main summoner. Of course melee and magic might change next expansion pending on what they announce as jobs soon.
Try Marauder/Warrior!! Even though it's a tank class, their self-sustain/healing once you progress further into the job is out of this world. I know you said you didn't want the tanking responsibility but with dungeons it's pretty simple and the community is probably the best I've ever interacted with. I played it from Realm Reborn all the way through to Endwalker in about a 6 month period and I can probably count the number of toxic people I ran into in dungeons on one hand. It's night and day compared to WoW EDIT: Finished the video - SAM was my dps spec I played (I played all tanks except Paladin) and their damage is bonkers. If you truly just want to dps you definitely can't go wrong with it. Only bad thing about playing DPS is that when you want to Roulette (LFG dungeons) it can take a bit to get a dungeon. Like most games with an LFG system, if you want instant pops, roll a tank :)
A little of this information is a bit outdated, since this is for an earlier expansion. And it doesn't contain the info on Reaper, the newest melee DPS job, which I think you might enjoy as well, it has a more direct combo point-style system; Combo one builts up points for combo two, and combo two builds up points for a huge finishing combo. You also have a debuff you maintain on the enemy which increases overall damage, not *quite* a dot but it amounts to the same thing. Unfortunately you can only pick it up later in the game (Level 70), but it is my favorite in the category for its survival tools, party utility, and fluid combat and movement skills. Plus the dark theme is just icing on the cake. You would likely have to start something else if you eventually plan to pick up Reaper.
Since you limit your choice down to Samurai or Summoner, I'll just give very brief input on those 2. - Samurai sadly only unlocks until you have a level 50 class/job. Free trial extended to Stormblood so you actually have Samurai unlocked also even without purchasing the game. Larry's video says enough, I can't say more besides it has even more hard hitting abilities lol - Summoner does get the rework, and starts as the 'upgrade'/job version of the Arcanist class. So if you like it, this is the one you can level first. Someone also already pointed out, levelling 'arcanist'/summoner also levels scholar aka a healer. This is an old concept they do, but if you like SMN, you just get SCH for free at endgame. Just have to go back and do job quests to unlock a lot of their higher levelled skills, less natural than SMN whose job quest you pick up as a SMN then get the skills that way.
So if you wanna end up as Samurai you have to be lvl 50 to start it. You can only do the starter classes from level 1. All the starters are Melee Dps - Pugilist --> Monk (has buff maintaining, very flexible rotation, confusing starter class) - Lancer --> Dragoon (has buff maintaining, very rigid rotation at endgame, good starter class) - From lvl 10 you can opt into Rogue --> Ninja (very fun but busy, very burst heavy) - Samurai will be lvl 50 locked (highest damage dealer, no raid utility, just pure damage) - Reaper will be lvl 70 locked (easiest melee) Magic dps - Arcanist which can become both summoner (easiest class by far) and a healer namely scholar. And you level both at the same time - Thaumaturge --> Black mage. Highest magic dps, harder to play at end game, but every fun mechanics of switching between ice and fore phases. - From lvl 50 you can get Redmage. (Switches between short cast and long cast spells, long casts are instant after a short cast spell. Has a melee burst phase) Range dps - Bard - Machinist after unlocking heavensward msq - Dancer is lvl 60 locked Tanks - Gladiator --> Paladin, easy rotation with a ranged burst phase. - Marauder --> Warrior, best self sustain tank. To angry to die. - Dark knight, unlock heavensward. Best job quests story. Bit similar to warrior. Bustier and more buttons and more edgy darkness. - Gunbreaker lvl 60 locked. Cool esthetic has gunblades. Healer - Aracnist into scholar, shield healer - Conjurer into white mage, big heals - Astrological, unlock heavensward. More a regen and planned healer. Also buffs party members - Sage lvl 70 locked. Fun barrier healer. Like discipline priest from WoW. Heal while doing damage.
@@Psybear_tv no problem, enjoy the journey! And like you said summoner and then samurai, it's a great plan. You get caster experience, can opt into healing experience by also unlocking scholar next to summoner and dual level them. Then at lvl 50, which is around A Realm Reborn (ARR; 2.0) you can change to samurai and use the 2.x patches (road to heavenward) to lvl samurai. One problem tho is that a part of the job quests will take place in the stormblood (SB, 4.0) expansion areas that are only unlocked via Msq, which in this case is after Heavensward (HW, 3.0). Thankfully all abilities are learned by leveling and not jobquests (ARR and HW jobs have required jobquests to do to unlock certain abilities). Only the lvl 70 samurai ability requires a job quest to unlock. But by that time you have unlocked all the areas required to finish the quest. Just dont forget to continue the job quests of samurai. Summoner does require a lot of job quests in ARR and HW to unlock their skills. Happy gaming!
@@Psybear_tv Astrologian, Machinist, and Dark Knight job trainers are in the city of Ishgard which is inaccessible until you reach the main city in the first expansion, Heavensward. I didn't understand this when I first started playing and it was very frustrating. They fixed this for all other jobs, which can be picked up in the starting cities when you reach the minimum unlock level for each.
the great thing about this game is that everything is viable there is no illusion of choice like wow just use what you like with how easy it is to swap between classes and mess with them ended up going through 5 different classes before landing on mechanist with a warrior secondary
You're gunna get a ton of MSQ-andies here telling you not to rush and to do this and don't skip this and that. Play how you wanna play. Fuck all the advice. I've played FFXIV for 10 years. I love it. There's lulls, bad stuff ofc (personally i think the current expac is one of our worst) but the combat, raids, ultimates etc all super fun! Have a great time!
From a omni 90 : Based on your initial description on what you wanted to play I would lead you towards Monk, Ninja Reaper. They have dots, monk and ninja are more difficult to play but they describe the spinning plate idea better than reaper since reaper is very simple in its rotation building up a guage to spend it on enshroud (reaper form). Dragoon and Samurai have self buffing timers you keep up that work like dots but only apply to you. Bard is only job with two dots and you may find some mileage there. MCH is like if bard and gunbreaker had a baby, just run around spamming your abilities, veryu good feel and damage from a ranged job. Summoner is something you should play but you will find out its very very easy however the rotation gets boring since its mostly A-B-C repeat. The easier jobs are better to learn fights on but the harder ones feel way more rewarding when you master the complexities. I tend to play reaper to learn fights then once I have it down I switch to samurai ninja, or blackmage, where execution really matters. hope that helps a little.
Thanks for your full insight and write up its really helpful! I want to try summoner and samurai to start but I have my eye on ninja and monk once I grasp some of the harder content 👀
Go for Arcanist (leveling it gives you both Smn a dps and Sch a healer to swap between). I also encourage giving Warrior a try in the future, tanking is very easy in Ffxiv and Warrior us basically a dps job with a tank stance buff.
i think you mean warrior is a healer job >.> .> the amount of self healing and party healing a warrior tank can do is insane. fun to scare the actual healer from time to time. look im about to die, woop pop a heal, AOE the group, whelp im full health.
Good news: the dmg buff of SMN is now centered around you and not the Carbuncle, meaning you can cast it anytime you want - just make sure you're positioned in the center and everyone gets the buff :) Larry's job videos are still some of the best on youtube. Sadly he has discontinued his FF14 in favor of a personal project so there probably wont come any new guides. I'm just saying this because his older videos, though super entertaining, arent accurate representations of the jobs anymore: there have been too many changes, and some jobs have been completely overhauled (link MNK).
if you Tank type i recomended play as Warrior or Paladin sure Dark Knight its cool Af but still its a Double Edge Knife either you lose your health for nothing or you lose your health for big output damage
I will fully say up front the A realm reborn story feels like it drags on for a while, especially the parts right before entering Heavensward story (which is amazing IMO). But they are pretty important even if they feel like they're slugging it out. It can be a thing to endure, but trust me when I say it's very worth it. Also, when you are able, do the Hall of the Novice content. Basically it's the "training for your role" type stuff. Even if you know what you're doing, it's worth going through it because you will get a ring you can equip on all classes (War/magic, not hand or land) that boosts EXP earned up to level 30. So if you want to do another class you can wear that ring to get more on all jobs. Also, anything your level syncs down, any boosts locked to levels will reactivate everytime you sync below that level. (I hope this made sense >.
That’s great to know, thank you. I’ll do my best to remember 😄 and as long as the chat enjoys the adventure then I’m incredibly happy to experience the MSQ in all its glory
I played feral druid when I briefly touched WoW too (when they destroyed it in Catacylsm). Monk or reaper would probably be the closest equivalent, in terms of speed of execution and positional keep your hands busyness. Monk USED to be the fastest class (till all dem new melee classes stole our speeds), and they removed the hard restrictions on most positionals because it was relatively impractical for mechanical design, (plenty of bosses require you to hump specifics locations rigorously, which would cause positional heavy classes to nosedive in output and spike in complexity) Monk has the closest thing to a energy point counter with its chakra but it only has one ranged one melee OGCD move tied to it. The best thing about FF14 is, you can play every class you want on a single character. No need for multiple characters to trudge through the massive story, no need to skip rush everything. As long as you aren't in combat and have the job unlocked plus an appropriate weapon you can swap and go. Also keep note that while it may not be as efficient, the MSQ can/will easily cause a single class to overlevel majorly. It might take a little more time, but you could easily level two classes at the same time with the "excess" exp. Not that leveling a class is that time consuming.
my friend leveled three classes. he did dragoon, warrior, and most of the way for reaper as well. and if you get on a preferred server, it can be a few more as well.
"if im trying to learn bosses..." I think you'll be fine on Ninja unless you dive into very difficult content. You will have all the easy content to learn to play. On all jobs, you will have to map your big CDs to specific spots in the fight for min/maxing. SMN is about rotating through the summons, which you can almoat consider "stances" as they change your main DPS GCD and oGCD ability. You can control the order of the stances, so end game is about using the different utilities of each summon at the optimal time for min/max. Good luck reading all the quest text, but dont feel bad if you give up on that. The story is good in retrospect. Many people who watch atreamers play are watching to see things they missed the first time around. They also really overhype the game to varying degrees that hits streamers differently. What i mean, is some feel like waiting for the mic to drop dyring the MSQ, but it does, thereby overlooking a bit of story that was well written or interesting just not necessarily haw dropping, especially without more context. But there are mic drop moments! So my advice is to chill through the story and try not to let chat hype you up. I notice streamers enjoy the story more when they try to make predictions or judge characters. E.g. "Bob is such a twerp." Then, you can appreciate the the character growth or the vindication you feel when Bob turns out to be a fucking little shit. Personally, i didnt read all the quest text until Shadowbringers, as the writing quality improced by then a lot, and i was genuinely intrigued by the story. This does require me to brush up details on the wiki for specific Stormblood stuff that gets referenced in Endwalker, but honestly yhe only people who catch the references are mega lore fans. Anyhoo, take in the good, leave out the bad. Have fun!
Word of advice I would recommend samurai, it’s been my main for thousands of hours and has a high skill ceiling and never gets boring for me personally, summoner is aesthetically pleasing but gets boring very quickly from my experience and from what I’ve heard from my friends so go with Sam imo
2 things: (1) You can try every job (2) You were watching a vedio about Shadowbringers, the previous expansion. Most is still accurate, but doublechecking an Endwalker video would help. I wonder if Reaper would be up your alley?
As an avid FFXIV player, what i showed my mates to get into the game is the job action trailer from Endwalker (current expansion). Also im sure you have been getting it plenty but its true that the game is a long journey to endgame, the story is huge skippable if you dont care some streamers do (some FFXIV players get pretty tilted if you do so you have been warned) But the game is very different from retail, to this day earlier content that was released years ago is still updated by the developers going back to the first expansion, so you will find a good portion of your content is moving through from start to the end. I wish you luck on this journey, looking forward to seeing you enjoy the game.
The one thing I'll say is every job really doesn't come into it's full form till lvl 90, so if you're really interested in a job, get it to 90 before deciding if you wanna main it. Some are worse than othera, but many jobs play completely different at max level
Just found this randomly. Did he recently watch this video? As a Monk main, this video is outdated. Monks haven't had greased lightning in a while. They've changed quite a bit since then. They do still have posititionals though. It's not the most popular class, but it's my favorite, mainly because I just like classes that fight with their fists, lol.
Yeah I watched it yesterday and people have mentioned it’s a little outdated. I tried searching for something more up to date but couldn’t see anything immediately that fit. Will watch more updates videos soon
Summoner is pretty slow at lower levels, HOWEVER you get a free healer "scholar" when you level summoner because they are bound by arcainist, so if you level it you get 2 classes. I know you dont want the responsibility of tank or healer, But Scholar is special cause it can produce shields. With these shields you can make someone survive things they wouldn't at full HP :p As well as ignore some people who took damage cause your fairy would heal them for free!
the larryzaur video is a lil outdated, you might want to look at their latest expansion version. If you like damage and aesthetic, reaper might strike your fancy. Maybe you already looked at it during stream, i just arrived so i don't know.
I love the current summoner playstyle its easy to use in raids and it just feels great summoning former bosses to fight for me, ninja is also great it doesn't get complicated till nuch later on but by then you will have the basic rotation down
You should also check Jocat's crap guides to ffxiv if you are looking for more info. Also why not play both SAM and SMN since you can play all the jobs in 1 character.
Get the endwalker updates. Shadowbringers will look different from endwalker so there is no point in watching the shadowbringers jobs since they will play a bit differently.
You will find that the FF14 community is the most helpful and mature community of players you will likely experience. You aren't likely to run into players calling you every cancerous thing you can think of just because you made a mistake.
let me say that FFXIV/SE hates Melees even more than blizzard :D u have do to positionals (all melee DPS have atleast 1 or 2, monk the most) to do full dmg and u have to dodge every shit and stuff. So consider playing ranged like Black Mage, Summoner, Red Mage, Dancer, Machinist, Bard.
@@Psybear_tv Summoner's good - very beginner friendly, fun, and you level a healer at the same time as a bonus. (SCH and SMN both stem from the base class - Arcanist) Don't be afraid of Melee though, positionals have been toned down a lot in recent years, and in the latest content melee downtime isn't punished nearly as much as it used to be. Have fun.
Huh? This is literally part of the appeal of melee, it's incredibly rewarding to toe the line between greedy and dead. Why suggest Black mage if you're strained about dodging? BLMs can't move often and have to maintain their leylines in key spots to get full uptime, which is why progging with one is so difficult.
FFXIV jobs are surprisingly well balanced. There are no "bad" jobs, but some do have an advantage. It's more about personal preferences and play style. The only one to be careful of is Black Mage.
I'd suggest the job actions showcase, won't give any details on the job but you can at least see all of the abilities each have. th-cam.com/video/WCVcgZ8dtD0/w-d-xo.html
Your character's first class affects which of nations you start in for first 15 levels of main story. All base game classes become a Job with their LV30 Job Quest to unlock it allowing access to stronger actions. Uldah - desert city classes *Gladiator tank* *Sword & shield weapon *becomes Paladin Job Holy Magic tank, later actions are damage spells using MP. They are traditional tank with variety of support abilities for the party including healing. *Puglist melee dps* *fist weapon *becomes Monk Job *this game has a slow GCD but monk has no issue having fastest attack speed in game with hard hitting combo attacks that deal bonus damage hitting enemy front flank or rear and need upkeep on its buffs and rotations *Thaumaturge magic dps* *magic staff weapon *becomes Black Mage Job *slow casting spells with high damage, strongest magic job in game, needs to know where to stand in a fight to move the least to keep casting continously, easy rotation but higher skill ceiling. Gridania - forest city classes *Lancer melee dps* *Pole arm weapon *becomes Dragoon Job *slow GCD 3 to 4 hit combos, "Jump" abilities for gap closers, and mild support abilities gaining dragonic powers. Easy to use class starting out. *Archer ranged physical dps* *Bow & Arrow weapon *becomes Bard Job *cycles through support song abilities to buff party damage, their hidden depth of song rotation beneath the surface, seems easy but as a higher skill ceiling than most know about for full potential. *Conjurer healer class* *healing staff weapon *becomes White Mage Job *the only healer starting class, using simple straight forward heals via regens (small auto heals over time) and high burst healing easily gets party HP to full quickly. Extremely user friendly and quite lazy to use in the best way. Limsa Lominsa - harbor city classes **Arcanist magic dps** *spell book weapon *becomes both a Scholar (healer) and Summoner (magic dps) Jobs *the only class with branched jobs that share the same exp bar, so leveling one of its jobs also levels the other. It is the only dps _class_ that has a resurrection spell at early levels. It uses a myriad of battle pets of from ruby carbuncles, to its summoner job calling iconic monsters as irfit, garuda, titan, bahamut and phoenix as part of its spell rotation using simple bursty magic damage. Its healer counter part Scholar Job has an fairy auto healing pet that uses abilities from while Scholar own heals shield players from damage by same amount, also having wide array of actions for nearly any fight if utilized properly. Arcanist is an excellent starting magic class. **Marauder tank class** *axe weapon *becomes Warrior Job *simple tank class with beserker vibes that has many self healing actions, even ones that help other party members. A good Warrior barely if at all needs to be healed at higher levels with stotic self sustain proper cycling through their healing actions. Good starting tank class. **Rogue melee dps class** *dual dagger weapon *becomes Ninja Job *Rogue isnt a starting class, it unlock it at LV10 main story quest while in Limsa Lominsa since this class was added later in base game. Pressing 2 to 3 hand sign buttons in certain order changing the execution of the ninjustu you wanna do which range from fireballs, quicksand aoes, thunder attacks, and own haste buff increasing attack speed. It has a debuff upkeep on bosses that increases their damage taken from all players ,so ninja are highly wanted for high end raid content being the strongest melee in terms of party support. Thats all classes in base game, my favs are marauder, conjurer and arcanist, imo any newbie should give those a try along with lancer too for some easy to use classes.
Now for Expansion Jobs, they dont have a class to unlock a Job from like base game but have a later starting level. 1st Expansion - Heavensward These jobs start at LV30 **Dark Knight tank job** *2 handed broadsword weapon *deals insane amounts of damage that rival melee dps and put physical ranged dps to shame. Causes extra damage through using its darkness abilities that use a lot of its MP. Very simple straightforward rotation, summons a shadow of yourself that is a glorified dot for even more damage. High skill ceiling for needing to manage its defensive actions more than other tanks compared tho. **Machnist physical ranged dps** *gun weapon *highest physical ranged dps of the 3 using myriad of steampunk abilities to build up to summoning a robot to deal extra damage in short bursts and hypercharge buff for high speed weapon shots **Astrologian healer Job** *Astroglobe weapon *one of the most unique healers in the game, uses RNG card buffs to increase party member damage and if placed on the right job the card will help them do extra damage. Its healing spells require foresight of knowing a fight to time them just right to off as raid wide damage hits the party. Loads of upkeep for its abilities and cards, need to do this and boss mechanics on top so keeps players very busy when using this healer job. 2nd expansion - Stormblood These jobs start at LV50 **Samurai melee dps** *one handed sword *extremely easy and high damage dps that cycles through its dmg buff rotation, attack speed rotation and has thee longest and highest dmg dot in the entire game. Simple upkeep and does good damage with barely even trying. Its the "Black Mage" of melee dps basically but easier to use. **Red Mage magic dps** *sword/magic staff hybrid *using a mix of sword and sorcery it builds upon white and black mage damage spells for its job gauge and spends it with high speed magic sword melee combos. Every other spell it casts is instant, and is the only dps expansion Job with a Resurrection spell so can instant cast its rez spell to bring back some of party thus saving a fight from wiping entirely. 3rd expansion - Shadowbringers These jobs start at LV60 *Gunbreaker tank* *gunblade weapon (yes like FF8) *super busy high speed rotation that has bursty alternate 6 hit combo, arguably has highest dmg tank with dark knight. High skill ceiling fitting all its heavy damage within a small dmg burst window. *Dancer physical ranged dps** *Chakram weapon *thee best support dps in the entire game, it shares its buffs with another party member as their "dance partner". Does 2 to 4 step dances on how many buttons needed to press before completing the dance. 2 step dance give them and dance partner dmg buff while 4 step dance is dmg buff for whole party and all dances deal aoe damage too being best physical ranged dps for aoes as well. Upkeep on dance buff for party member but easy to use overall. 4th expansion - Endwalker These jobs start at LV70 **Reaper melee dps** *Scythe weapon *most melee dps use 3 hit combo as their bread and butter but reaper is the opposite, it uses mostly its damage abilities throughout with void demon using you as its host for extra damage. Needs upkeep of debuff on enemies to increase your damage to them and when they die increases your job gauge more void demon attacks. **Sage healer class** *nouliths (4 floating weapons) *this healer is pretty unique as if through using damage spells by placing a buff on a party member usually the tank to heal them. Has instant heals that also apply a small shield to party members this and other abliities have it feel very similar to Scholar healer job but with even more mitigation. It can augment its healing speeds and single target dmg spell into instant heal shields and dot respectively. Thats all the expansion jobs for now until the next FF14 fanfest october 2023 in london reveals at least one of new Jobs for upcoming expansion Dawntrail releasing summer 2024.
So, while it starts/you can pick it up at level 70, I think Reaper might hit (maybe not all but a lot of) the vibes and playstyle that you're looking for. SAM might hit your serotonin but keep Reaper in mind for the future.
Streaming the start of my ARR journey tomorrow 7th August
The beauty off FFXIV is that you can have all the jobs with one character. So if you wanna switch between summoner and samurai, then you can do that with no problem.
Yeah it's such a nice change of pace. Knowing everything will be stored on 1 character is such a relief
There are even achievements for leveling all the jobs
@@TarossBlackburn
IMO.
Should still do any sidequests you see with blue markers, as those all unlock new features/content.
Side quest does give you some emote or special outfit tho
Like when you finished all ARR quest you can get the moogle mail cap
@@CanisMythson Yeah that is a fair point actually.
@@CanisMythson And your class/job quests, no matter what color their symbol is.
@@alden2085 Doesn't the 70 quest give you an armor set?
@@rtiq270 If you're not still in the middle of heavensward and hilariously overleveled because of the preferred world xp bonus
@@alden2085 Oh yeah 😂
one thing i'd have to add, is you really don't have to worry about learning mechanics as much in this game. The game teaches you how everything works quite nicely. Never was as daunting as randomly locking in tank or healer in m+.
The best guides are from Jocat in his "crap guides to Final Fantasy" they're satirical summaries of the roles and jobs, but are also really good
Edit: Pro Tip: at levels 50, 60, 70, and 90 do the Hildebrand quest line, they are some of the best writing and animation that really shows what the engine can do(also it's a test bed for new techniques and technology).
I absolutely plan too. As long as people are happy to watch it, that’s my biggest concern. I’d prefer to stop and read and listen 😄
@@Psybear_tv I’ll be watching, that’s for sure! There’s nothing xiv players like more than watching new players experience the story 😈
I think Samurai often gets.overlooked as a DoT class but making sure Higanbana doesn't drop and refreshing it as close as you can is a nice DoT-class style mini playstyle within the class ☺️
I really enjoy it
I'm sad that Kaiten gave it some extra thought and now it's gone but it is what it is.
@@obliviona1 Black mage Thundercloud mechanic is dependent on keeping thunder up. Though it can be forced with snapcast.
For sure planning on checking out reaper when the time comes. Perhaps I could become a melee specialist 🤔
Might also be interesting to note Reaper in XIV is basically what the player base turned Dark Knight into in FFXI.
New subscriber here. I'm excited to watch your journey in FFXIV. It's, by far, my favorite MMO. Best of luck!
tbf, if you are torn between samurai and summoner, just start as a summoner (archanist).
you cannot start straight up out from char creation with a samurai cuz its from a later expansion, and you will be given an option later on to pick up any job and level them anytime you wish
the early stages of summoner is just a variation of twerking carbuncles too, so enjoy while you can xD
also quick tip: never try to level stuff at once, always keep one job ahead so you get an exp bonus for the lower level jobs
Ooo great tip thank you! Can I continue the MSQ if I change Job part way through? Or do I have to lvl up my new job a bit first?
If you need any tips for high level summoner just let me know! (One quick tip I have is keep the resurrection spell on your hotbar in case the healer/healers in your party suddenly go down. They will appreciate it since Summoner is often known as a "Res Mage" as well as Red Mage but not until later on in the levels)
I Subscribed for the sole purpose of keeping up with your FFXIV adventure. I hope your recording and doing a lets play!
Oh absolutely! Expect vod uploads too
Enjoy your journey in that story driven game!
Common recommendations:
-focus on the Main Story Quest (MSQ) and your job quests (yes, there is a story related to your jobs)
-The MSQ will make sure that you are leveling up (don't need to power level)
-The combat will feel slow at the beginning, but it get faster when including the off-cold down abilities.
-The music is great too (like... some of them are REAL banger)
So, once again, enjoy your journey!
Thank you for all the tips! You say to take my time but really I only have 1 year until Dawntrail 👀👀 gotta get schmovin!

Im gonna enjoy this series if your going to put out more on ff.
Waiting for your FF!4 streams!
Tomorrow 10am UK 😄
"samurai is a lvl 50 unlock...so going summoner, sorted" hahah, glad it worked out!
Enjoy the ride. And I hope you have fun with both games.
I recommend JoCat's Crap Guides. They're reasonably informative and highly entertaining.
I’ll check them out, thank you 🙏
DPS first is definitely a good choice.
I’ll be taking my time 😄 I’ll be playing on spriggan because I’m EU and have some friends that play there
@@Psybear_tv ah, gotcha. Well, enjoy the game. It's amazing.
It's night and day compared to WoW
EDIT: Finished the video - SAM was my dps spec I played (I played all tanks except Paladin) and their damage is bonkers. If you truly just want to dps you definitely can't go wrong with it. Only bad thing about playing DPS is that when you want to Roulette (LFG dungeons) it can take a bit to get a dungeon. Like most games with an LFG system, if you want instant pops, roll a tank :)
Ty for all the info! I’ll start with summoner and dps in general and once I feel more comfortable I’m sure I’ll branch out into other roles 🫡
Thanks for the heads up. I’ll take a look!
Since you limit your choice down to Samurai or Summoner, I'll just give very brief input on those 2.
- Samurai sadly only unlocks until you have a level 50 class/job. Free trial extended to Stormblood so you actually have Samurai unlocked also even without purchasing the game. Larry's video says enough, I can't say more besides it has even more hard hitting abilities lol
- Summoner does get the rework, and starts as the 'upgrade'/job version of the Arcanist class.
All the starters are
Melee Dps
- Pugilist --> Monk (has buff maintaining, very flexible rotation, confusing starter class)
- Lancer --> Dragoon (has buff maintaining, very rigid rotation at endgame, good starter class)
- From lvl 10 you can opt into Rogue --> Ninja (very fun but busy, very burst heavy)
- Samurai will be lvl 50 locked (highest damage dealer, no raid utility, just pure damage)
- Reaper will be lvl 70 locked (easiest melee)
Magic dps
- Arcanist which can become both summoner (easiest class by far) and a healer namely scholar. And you level both at the same time
- Thaumaturge --> Black mage. Highest magic dps, harder to play at end game, but every fun mechanics of switching between ice and fore phases.
- From lvl 50 you can get Redmage. (Switches between short cast and long cast spells, long casts are instant after a short cast spell. Has a melee burst phase)
Range dps
- Bard
- Machinist after unlocking heavensward msq
- Dancer is lvl 60 locked
Tanks
- Gladiator --> Paladin, easy rotation with a ranged burst phase.
- Marauder --> Warrior, best self sustain tank. To angry to die.
- Dark knight, unlock heavensward. Best job quests story. Bit similar to warrior. Bustier and more buttons and more edgy darkness.
- Gunbreaker lvl 60 locked. Cool esthetic has gunblades.
Healer
- Aracnist into scholar, shield healer
- Conjurer into white mage, big heals
- Astrological, unlock heavensward. More a regen and planned healer. Also buffs party members
- Sage lvl 70 locked. Fun barrier healer. Like discipline priest from WoW. Heal while doing damage.
This is a big help thank you! Not sure how many I’ll get to try before Dawntrail but hopefully a good few!
"how cool does the spell look" lol this is what sold me on the healer jobs. Astrologian has gorgeous spells for healing
Got my eye on that one too 👀 love me some space!
Good news: the dmg buff of SMN is now centered around you and not the Carbuncle, meaning you can cast it anytime you want - just make sure you're positioned in the center and everyone gets the buff :)
Larry's job videos are still some of the best on youtube. Sadly he has discontinued his FF14 in favor of a personal project so there probably wont come any new guides. I'm just saying this because his older videos, though super entertaining, arent accurate representations of the jobs anymore: there have been too many changes, and some jobs have been completely overhauled (link MNK).
"I like the idea of how it gets twerking" must be the funniest shit I've heard in a while
Did they change Radiant Aegis to not have a second charge? Because I got SMN to 90 and I dont think I have that
if you Tank type
i recomended play as Warrior or Paladin
sure Dark Knight its cool Af
but still its a Double Edge Knife
either you lose your health for nothing
or you lose your health for big output damage
I’ll do my best to remember 😄 and as long as the chat enjoys the adventure then I’m incredibly happy to experience the MSQ in all its glory
you also get a full set of Tank, Physical, Magic armor, when you complete it with a class of each type.
I played feral druid when I briefly touched WoW too (when they destroyed it in Catacylsm). Monk or reaper would probably be the closest equivalent, in terms of speed of execution and positional keep your hands busyness.
Monk USED to be the fastest class (till all dem new melee classes stole our speeds), and they removed the hard restrictions on most positionals because it was relatively impractical for mechanical design, (plenty of bosses require you to hump specifics locations rigorously, which would cause positional heavy classes to nosedive in output and spike in complexity)
Monk has the closest thing to a energy point counter with its chakra but it only has one ranged one melee OGCD move tied to it.
Spinny plates would be ninja, or bard, seeing him like samurai, and as a sam main i think he’d like it too
Heck yeah another Warrior of Light. Welcome to Eorzea!
That’s the plan at 50! A friend plays samurai and he seems to love it!
2 things: (1) You can try every job (2) You were watching a vedio about Shadowbringers, the previous expansion. Most is still accurate, but doublechecking an Endwalker video would help. I wonder if Reaper would be up your alley?
You can start as Monk (Pugilist) for the first 50 levels and then switch to Samurai. They even use the same gear!
As an avid FFXIV player, what i showed my mates to get into the game is the job action trailer from Endwalker (current expansion).
Also im sure you have been getting it plenty but its true that the game is a long journey to endgame, the story is huge skippable if you dont care some streamers do (some FFXIV players get pretty tilted if you do so you have been warned)
But the game is very different from retail, to this day earlier content that was released years ago is still updated by the developers going back to the first expansion, so you will find a good portion of your content is moving through from start to the end.
I wish you luck on this journey, looking forward to seeing you enjoy the game.
Thank you for the advice! I’m excited to get going 🫡
Will you be streaming your play through?
I will be! 10am UK Monday 7th (tomorrow). I'll also be uploading edited vods! :)
The one thing I'll say is every job really doesn't come into it's full form till lvl 90, so if you're really interested in a job, get it to 90 before deciding if you wanna main it. Some are worse than othera, but many jobs play completely different at max level
That’s helpful thank you
I'd advice looking at a job guide from Endwalker. Many of the classes have changed since Shadowbringers in some aspects.
A lot of things changed with Endwalker, so probably better to watch a video with that instead of Shadowbringers.
I like how NOBODY in his chat told him that's a video from last expansion and is pretty outdated now
You will love FF XIV. 💪🏼💪🏼
Welcome to the game!
Haha, that lalafell jumpscare 🤣🤣
start with Summoner until lvl 50 and then unlock Samurai
When you say "spinning plates, dot, buffs, upkeep, melee" I immediately think Monk. You probably want to do Monk.
He watching outdated video.... most of them jobs dont play like that anymore
I couldn't find a video that was more up to date. If you have any suggestions I'd happily give it a watch
@@Psybear_tvth-cam.com/video/4UipTJY4k2Y/w-d-xo.html seems to be my choice to show off. Though it is a little long
sounds like you wanna play ninja
👀
MONK is what ur asking for keeping up the Buff and Do big dmg
The first video is a bit dated btw
Summoner's Carbuncle is just a non combat pet these days. It doesn't actually "do" anything. They used to hit things but now they're kinda just there
I resonant with the, honestly. Carbuncle is my friend now. I won't turn my back on it.
That sounds like everything in the game....
summoner is extremely easy and i honestly think you will get bored of it coming from feral bleed world. samurai seems like a good choice though!!
it seems you would like reaper...
Why choose when you can have ALL OF THEM! MUAHAHAHAHA
summoner is really easy to take in hand even at end game, but gameplay is super boring until 80+
the larryzaur video is a lil outdated, you might want to look at their latest expansion version. If you like damage and aesthetic, reaper might strike your fancy. Maybe you already looked at it during stream, i just arrived so i don't know.
Did take a quick peek. Might give it another glance later down the line 👀 thank you
Hooray, more people for XIV 😄
I love the current summoner playstyle its easy to use in raids and it just feels great summoning former bosses to fight for me, ninja is also great it doesn't get complicated till nuch later on but by then you will have the basic rotation down
SMN is very smooth brain. Extremely beginner friendly and probably the easiest job in the game
Ninja you just focus on the last one and don't hit the same one twice in a row
You will find that the FF14 community is the most helpful and mature community of players you will likely experience. You aren't likely to run into players calling you every cancerous thing you can think of just because you made a mistake.
I’ve heard good things!
Only class in ff14 is dps. Green dps, blue dps, and red dps 😂
let me say that FFXIV/SE hates Melees even more than blizzard :D u have do to positionals (all melee DPS have atleast 1 or 2, monk the most) to do full dmg and u have to dodge every shit and stuff. So consider playing ranged like Black Mage, Summoner, Red Mage, Dancer, Machinist, Bard.
Already considering the Summoner ;)
@@Calvlath we all Know BLM is the real Deal! 😂
FFXIV jobs are surprisingly well balanced. There are no "bad" jobs, but some do have an advantage. It's more about personal preferences and play style. The only one to be careful of is Black Mage.
Also sub to watch you play the story ^_^
You should look for a endwalker video instead cuz this one video is really outdated
Will do! You and a few others have given the heads up 😄
I'd suggest the job actions showcase, won't give any details on the job but you can at least see all of the abilities each have. th-cam.com/video/WCVcgZ8dtD0/w-d-xo.html
dude ... just stop compare these two games ... loll .. none of the FF jobs are NEAR compared to the classes in wow. just play the game...lol
...
Your character's first class affects which of nations you start in for first 15 levels of main story. All base game classes become a Job with their LV30 Job Quest to unlock it allowing access to stronger actions.
Uldah - desert city classes
*Gladiator tank*
*Sword & shield weapon
*becomes Paladin Job
Holy Magic tank, later actions are damage spells using MP. They are traditional tank with variety of support abilities for the party including healing.
*Puglist melee dps*
*fist weapon
*becomes Monk Job
*this game has a slow GCD but monk has no issue having fastest attack speed in game with hard hitting combo attacks that deal bonus damage hitting enemy front flank or rear and need upkeep on its buffs and rotations
*Thaumaturge magic dps*
*magic staff weapon
*becomes Black Mage Job
*slow casting spells with high damage, strongest magic job in game, needs to know where to stand in a fight to move the least to keep casting continously, easy rotation but higher skill ceiling.
Gridania - forest city classes
*Lancer melee dps*
*Pole arm weapon
*becomes Dragoon Job
*slow GCD 3 to 4 hit combos, "Jump" abilities for gap closers, and mild support abilities gaining dragonic powers. Easy to use class starting out.
*Archer ranged physical dps*
*Bow & Arrow weapon
*becomes Bard Job
*cycles through support song abilities to buff party damage, their hidden depth of song rotation beneath the surface, seems easy but as a higher skill ceiling than most know about for full potential.
*Conjurer healer class*
*healing staff weapon
*becomes White Mage Job
*the only healer starting class, using simple straight forward heals via regens (small auto heals over time) and high burst healing easily gets party HP to full quickly. Extremely user friendly and quite lazy to use in the best way.
Limsa Lominsa - harbor city classes
**Arcanist magic dps**
*spell book weapon
*becomes both a Scholar (healer) and Summoner (magic dps) Jobs
*the only class with branched jobs that share the same exp bar, so leveling one of its jobs also levels the other.
**Marauder tank class**
*axe weapon
*becomes Warrior Job
*simple tank class with beserker vibes that has many self healing actions, even ones that help other party members. A good Warrior barely if at all needs to be healed at higher levels with stotic self sustain proper cycling through their healing actions. Good starting tank class.
**Rogue melee dps class**
*dual dagger weapon
*becomes Ninja Job
*Rogue isnt a starting class, it unlock it at LV10 main story quest while in Limsa Lominsa since this class was added later in base game.
1st Expansion - Heavensward
These jobs start at LV30
**Dark Knight tank job**
*2 handed broadsword weapon
*deals insane amounts of damage that rival melee dps and put physical ranged dps to shame. Causes extra damage through using its darkness abilities that use a lot of its MP. Very simple straightforward rotation, summons a shadow of yourself that is a glorified dot for even more damage. High skill ceiling for needing to manage its defensive actions more than other tanks compared tho.
**Machnist physical ranged dps**
*gun weapon
*highest physical ranged dps of the 3 using myriad of steampunk abilities to build up to summoning a robot to deal extra damage in short bursts and hypercharge buff for high speed weapon shots
**Astrologian healer Job**
*Astroglobe weapon
*one of the most unique healers in the game, uses RNG card buffs to increase party member damage and if placed on the right job the card will help them do extra damage. Its healing spells require foresight of knowing a fight to time them just right to off as raid wide damage hits the party. Loads of upkeep for its abilities and cards, need to do this and boss mechanics on top so keeps players very busy when using this healer job.
2nd expansion - Stormblood
These jobs start at LV50
**Samurai melee dps**
*one handed sword
*extremely easy and high damage dps that cycles through its dmg buff rotation, attack speed rotation and has thee longest and highest dmg dot in the entire game. Simple upkeep and does good damage with barely even trying. Its the "Black Mage" of melee dps basically but easier to use.
**Red Mage magic dps**
*sword/magic staff hybrid
*using a mix of sword and sorcery it builds upon white and black mage damage spells for its job gauge and spends it with high speed magic sword melee combos. Every other spell it casts is instant, and is the only dps expansion Job with a Resurrection spell so can instant cast its rez spell to bring back some of party thus saving a fight from wiping entirely.
3rd expansion - Shadowbringers
These jobs start at LV60
*Gunbreaker tank*
*gunblade weapon (yes like FF8)
*super busy high speed rotation that has bursty alternate 6 hit combo, arguably has highest dmg tank with dark knight. High skill ceiling fitting all its heavy damage within a small dmg burst window.
*Dancer physical ranged dps**
*Chakram weapon
*thee best support dps in the entire game, it shares its buffs with another party member as their "dance partner".
4th expansion - Endwalker
These jobs start at LV70
**Reaper melee dps**
*Scythe weapon
*most melee dps use 3 hit combo as their bread and butter but reaper is the opposite, it uses mostly its damage abilities throughout with void demon using you as its host for extra damage. Needs upkeep of debuff on enemies to increase your damage to them and when they die increases your job gauge more void demon attacks.
**Sage healer class**
*nouliths (4 floating weapons)
*this healer is pretty unique as if through using damage spells by placing a buff on a party member usually the tank to heal them.
Judging from everything you’ve said you should do exactly what I do and start summoner then pick up reaper at 70
I’ll look into it yeah 😄
